For the money you'd expect it but really couldn't fault the place. The food was amazing & the breakfast in the morning was an incredible smosgasboard. The staff were so, so friendly and just wonderful with our young daughter. We alternated between spending our time on the beach and by the pool but the other attraction was the amazing wildlife - howler monkeys swinging through the trees, coatis in the undergrowth, iguanas lounging in the trees and hummingbirds flitting about, absolutely magical.

We had an amazing time at The W. The food was amazing even though it took us a day to figure out the schedule. Every meal from room service to the restaurants was absolutely delicious. We kept raving about how fresh everything was. The staff was amazing and personable. Before we left everyone knew us by name which was such a personal unforgettable touch. Our room had a great view and was very private and comfortable. We stayed in the building close to the lobby. I believe it was called building one. If it’s your first time and you take advantage of the all inclusive option please make sure you ask what is included in the bar and refrigerator because only some items are included. We wanted to return this year but had to push it out until next year. The W definitely spoiled us and we plan on making this a yearly destination.

Wow! This hotel is outstanding: the location, food, amenities, rooms, pools, staff, spa, etc etc were all fantastic. We loved our stay as a family of 4 this summer. The hotel's setting is magnificent and very private. The room was very well-appointed and quiet. The outstanding staff were super attentive and friendly. Definitely recommend this W.

We had an absolutely amazing week at the W Hotel Costa Rica. Service that I could not have even imagined was possible. From check-in, to the food, to the incredible attention to every single detail. Having our names remembered at the pool was certainly a plus! It was a perfect week and we are so grateful to all of the staff at the W for making this vacation incredible.

The W Hotel Reserva Conchal is not your typical hotel. It is a small footprint in the heart of a nature preserve nestled beside a stunning beach. We (two adults) booked a 10 night stay in a Corner suite with plunge pool from Marriott.com. We chose the I am All In category to celebrate my 50th birthday “week”. At check in (thank you Stephanie, Jordan and Milena?) we were ungraded to a TreeHouse suite. WOW. The rooms (bedroom, washroom with walk in rain showers , separate living room with snack bar, fridge and foosball table) were spacious and decorated in true W Hotel fashion. The balcony furnished with the large plunge pool, sun beds and plush chairs peered onto the jungle. There was a partial view of the beach and ocean. Walk in closet with ample hangars. Thank you Ms Lopez Ortiz and your evening assistant for first-rate cleanliness of our room for 10 nights. The majority of the property is walkable. Or you can choose to ride a golf cart (Thank you Alexander, David, Daniel and Mauritio). Don’t be surprised to come across a lizard or two while you walk. Also frequently seen are many species of birds and insects, howler monkeys hanging out on in the tree canopy, and if you’re lucky the shy coati. Talent - English language is well spoken with the Tico saying Pura Vida heard at every greeting. We found the breakfast service very inconsistent (except for Lucy, Eddie, Glenda and Fernando). To be specific - buffet is … self serve. But we expected to be offered coffee or tea or a beverage (Mimosa anyone!). And follow up after the first pour with a refill. This did not happen on two mornings. On a third morning my wife got up from the table and approached a staff member for coffee. A couple from Texas agreed that breakfast buffet service was terrible. Overall Talent at the Wet Deck (thank you Aaron, Randy, Frander, Jonathan!) was outstanding. Zona Azul (Filipe, Rosa, Randall) was good. However Zona Azul was grossly understaffed during for our evening dinner and another evening for drinks at the bar. Living Room bar Talent was also good. Thank you Carlos or also known as “Machete”. Latitud 10 offers indoor (air conditioned) dinning. Thank you Paul for creating tasty cocktails! Food and drink - we loved the ceviche, octopus, pork belly, sashimi, burger, sirloin steak, grilled snapper, desserts and so much more. We did not enjoy the batter used on the fried chicken wings. Talent always took note of our special requests - my wife preferred plain rice and on the side and less alcohol in her cocktails. We sampled over 12 cocktails made from fresh ingredients (some were unique to the bar / restaurant) and settled on 4 during the remainder of our stay. The “hangover free” drinks at Zona Azul were all very enjoyable. My wife made a point to drink fresh chilled coconut water each day. We experienced every dinning event except for Santa Clara, Blue Fire, Caribbean Vibes. W Insider invited us to dine at (if I remember correctly it is once per month) the Cocina’s W Night Brunch. The concept was buffet style with a mix of Costa Rican, Asian and North American foods and desserts to enjoy! Loved the beef short rib and crispy roast pork. That evening we had the pleasure of meeting the pastry chef Tatiana Rivera. Prior to our arrival the W Insider (Jeffrie and Ayeisha) team had inquired which sweet treat was my top fav. Tiramisu I replied. Little did I know Chef Rivera had created her first ever tiramisu for the W. WOW. Layered flavors of heavenly joy. WOW. We enjoyed a spa massage . With unlimited use of the hot / cold pools and sauna. Great facility. Thank you Michael and Mariella. We also decided to try a beach massage for $30. Maria and Diane can be found just outside the exit / entrance to the W property. The local police had come by the day before to remove vendors and services offered on the beach. But in true entrepreneur fashion they were all back the next day. Vendors were not aggressive. Activities and transportation can be booked thru the W Insider team prior to arrival. Or just as easy in the Living Room with the Swiss Travel Talent . We choose to book “off resort” as we wanted a more tailored and private experience. Rigo Tours (operated by Rigo) is located on the beach in front of the W exit / entrance. We enjoyed ATV and horseback tour with him, and jet ski rental. Towards the right and a 10 minute walk on the beach is Erik Garcia. He can be found in front of the Westin Hotel. I had read countless 5 star reviews and recommendations that we felt compelled to book airport transportation, transportation to La Leona waterfall and a full day tour of Cortez waterfall (although this was skipped due to heavy rain), observing sloths in the wild, and a coffee / cocoa farm tour. Transportation for both activities was provided by Erik’s business partner Bryan. A former employee of 2 high end hotels in Guanacaste for 10+ years his expertise of the area was greatly appreciated. We chatted candidly about “everything” Costa Rica. We asked for a stop on the roadside to buy fresh fruit. And another stop to enjoy lunch at a local Soda in Flamingo Beach. Red snapper anyone! We dined at the Westin two evenings. Bamboo (very good, but not excellent compared to the W) and Manglar. We had the pleasure of meeting the service captain Sady, and he obliged to our request for grilled whole fish (not on the menu!). Conchal beach - exceptionally clean with little to no garbage or cigarettes butts or algae blooms (compared to beaches around the world that are victims of over tourism) except for horse poop. Sun beds are available with Talent from Zona Azul taking your drink orders. Our favorite location on Conchal beach was (facing ocean) to the left and after the fresh water river. About a 7 minute walk. There we found the ocean (during low and high tide) to be shallow with lazy rolling waves. We were also treated one morning to 2 spotted stingrays swimming by us. And another morning sea turtles. We did not snorkel, but locals mentioned it was somewhat better closer to the Westin side of Conchal. We visited Tamarindo one evening for dinner. The town itself was lively with a variety of restaurants. Tips - you can choose to tip over an about the set 10% service charge. This will be billed in CRC or USD. More “tips” - buy a local SIM card from Kolbi store in the town Huacas. For 12,000 CRC your phone will have a local phone number, 5 GB of data. And free data for Instagram. Facebook. WhatsApp. Waze. Bring insect repellent. Property grounds are sprayed throughout the day / night but blood suckers still lurk waiting for their next victim. Bring sunscreen. I heard it was $35 at the W Hotel retail store. Bottled water provided for free in the suite room category. With All In we also helped ourself to juice, pop and Gatorade. Order the Floating Breakfast. WOW. All In at $199 USD per person is the way to go if you want to indulge in food (7 course tasting menu at Latitud 10 is $99 pp) and drink (average cocktail price $14 or Cuba Libre at $12 or hangover free $8). Pura Vida

We stayed recently for the second leg of our trip in Costa Rica. Even before we arrived, Ayeisha our concierge was phenomenal - always super responsive, and helped us arrange our transfer to/from the hotel through Go CR Vision. She was there to greet us upon arrival and escort us to the front desk for check-in, which was quick & easy. We had an Ocean View room in Tower 1 which had beautiful views of the jungle around and beach. Rooms are clean and spacious. Service throughout was great at the restaurants, both Latitud 10 Norte and their main restaurant Cocina de Mercado - so glad we took advantage of the Sushi Market, it was such a wonderful lunch. The Living Room as excellent as well, the happy hours at sunset were great. The WET Deck had decent service as well and was always a fun time. The beach to the property is absolutely stunning - beautiful to swim in, walk and lounge at. All that to say, Zona Azul down by the beach does not match the set up & vibe. Service there was lacking, not once but both times we went. Huge plus, their transportation partner GO CR Vision runs a shuttle from the main lobby to/from Tamarindo Beach if you want to go off property and explore the nearby town (which I'd highly recommend). Overall the staff and programming at the property is exactly what you would come to expect from a W property - fun, thought out and high-touch - but Zona Azul definitely left a little bit of a bitter taste.

What a phenomenal hotel! Let me say it again. What a phenomenal hotel. We celebrated our anniversary here and were so happy we did. The area (Reserva Conchal) that the hotel is located on is absolutely incredible. It checks off all the boxes. Beautiful mountains, ocean, jungle with wildlife everywhere. 1. Perfect beach enclave (white sands, great clear water, no hassles from any vendors) . 2. The room was huge, had it's own plunge pool, modern and gorgeous, comfortable with an amazing view. 3. The hotel is just so chic... The atmosphere, the two different pools, the bars, the lighting.... The best W we have ever stayed at. Everything is walking distance to on the resort. In addition you always have the golf cart that pick you up within minutes of requesting one. Very convenient. 4. Staff: The most impressive part of the hotel was Stephanie at the front desk. She made our stay perfect - A welcoming smile, a smooth check-in experience, exuding professionalism and attention to detail. Stephanie took such good care of us. She even drove us by golf cart to the beach when she was leaving to go home... She went way beyond what was expected and we certainly appreciated it. In addition, Gabriel was fantastic. He drove us around and gave us a small tour of the the neighbouring facilities (Westin). The staff learn your first names and remember. That is definitely attention to detail that other hotels can learn from. 5. Food was really good (prices were high, but expected. May try the all inclusive food package on our next stay). We had a car, so we drove into down as well with lots of options - about a 25 minute drive. Wow..... Again, what an amazing hotel... Kudos to Stephanie and the General Manager who put the right staff in place. Highly recommend. We will be back soon!!

We need help unauthorized charges on our credit card. Please see below! We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was outstanding, as were the premises. The breakfast is excellent. On the downside, the food for lunch and dinner is mediocre. Service in general excellent but we’re having trouble solving an issue regarding a charge on our credit card. My husband sent email and called Stephanie Gutierrez and she’s always in a meeting and doesn’t respond. We also spoke to Nicole Artalla. Our total charge should have been $2174, and instead we were charged $3000 and blocked another $3000. Please refer to charges on rooms 2403 and 2408 from August 28th - 30th 2022.

This is THE MOST family friendly W hotel that we've ever stayed at. The W is more known for its younger crowd but this W is the best for family stays. We stayed a whopping 11 days at this resort. We were only supposed to stay for 5 days and had reservations at El Mangroove but decided to extend our stay for the duration of our trip because the staff is more than amazing, the beach is beautiful (minus the horse poop here and there because there are horse back riding excursions along the beach), the property is gorgeous (monkey and iguana poop aside because this is in the middle of the reserve), and the accommodations were amazing. The breakfast spread was SUPER fresh and comparable to the ones we had in Thailand (Koh Samui) and Hong Kong (Kowloon). The food for lunch and dinner were fresh and delicious (I actually LOST weight after my vacation despite the fact that I ate more than I should because their foods are minimally processed). What really stood out to me was the staff. They remember your names, treat you like friends/family, humored my 5 year old (and spoiled him), and are genuinely happy to work at the hotel. From Chef Andres from Zona Azul to our waiters (Leonardo, Carla, Felipe, and so many more), thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The lunches at Zona Azul were amazing and the dinners at Mercado (especially the Lomo Saltado) were heavenly. The rooms are gorgeous and the property is really well -maintained. Just go!
