Just spent 4 nights with family (2 older teenage kids). Pros: certain staff (especially those servicing restaurants, front desk and housekeepers). Kevin, Angel, and several others whose names I cannot remember (super friendly older gentleman at the Steakhouse restaurant who knew all about MLB baseball). Food was especially good for an all-inclusive and the design/atmosphere at the restaurants were really nice. We had very good dining and service experiences at Spirula and Manglar. Property and grounds were beautiful. If you attempt to speak Spanish and make an effort to be friendly, staff very much appreciate it and service is reflective of this. Great efforts with Covid mitigation efforts. Rooms are clean. Cons: Very large resort, feel like just a number some of the time. Air Conditioning in rooms not quite cool enough. Very challenging to get dinner reservations. Some staff appear apathetic and unhappy with their jobs (you don't get the "Pura Vida" greeting that you get in other parts of the country. Pool bartenders appear to dislike their jobs and aren't eager to serve (which is somewhat understandable given the number of loud, obnoxious Americans waiting with their large insulated mugs. For the price we paid per night, I was surprised that the clientele was on the loud, obnoxious side. There were a few large, corporate groups at the resort and they seemed to get more attention and better service than smaller groups (this was definitely apparent at Bamboo restaurant where we sat and waited for prolonged periods of time for service while watching the large table behind us being catered to by several servers at once). We noticed other tables annoyed by this experience as well. Overall, we enjoyed our experience but after coming here from a resort that offered better service and lovely and genuine Costa Rican hospitality, we were a bit disappointed by the quality of service. Overall, a nice place but service needs to be addressed by management.

I am writing this on our return flight from our 9 day stay at the Westin and Playa Conchal with our two sons, ages 4 and 13. Everyone of us had an incredible time of lifelong memories. Nothing is perfect but this is close and if you just ask one of the hotel staff they will go above and beyond to try to make whatever your need is happen. They do their best to ensure you have a great experience and a relaxing time. The beach is public and nice, as others have said if you are used to the Caribbean Ocean, this is not it. We spent 1/2 the day at the beach every day we didn’t have an excursion. There are a lot of locals and vendors. The massage ladies are fierce but once you let them know you are not interested, they won’t trouble you any more. We did not get massages but everyone who did seemed happy and the beds were mostly always full. One regret was not taking a horse ride on the beach, preferably sunset. $30 for 30 minutes. The grounds are very nice, it’s the dry season so it’s not as lush as it might be, but very nice. Walks were always enjoyed. Tons of beautiful trees and large palms. Howler monkeys, coati and iguanas everywhere, even a gecko too! Everything very clean. The restaurants are excellent, we ate at all and only one night we ate at the buffet. We’re foodies from the NYC area and we were quite happy with all our meals. Mangalar and Spirula were exceptional. Lunch at Eccola or whatever the name was really good too. Ceviche and catch of the day or Mahi Mahi, were delicious. The pizzas (almost flatbread) were fantastic and awesome option for when you need something in between. The buffet was good too. Breakfast is only here. I think some more offerings could offer some improvement. The room was spacious and adequate; we were in the family club junior renewed. We opted for an open balcony as we did not like the closed in ones. For us we feel we travelled there to be out in the open air, especially since it’s freezing back home. The pool is humongous and you never feel it's crowded. There is always a corner or nook to escape to. It's very clean. We spent the other 1/2 of our days there. We enjoyed the family club option, it was nice to have bar nearby at the pool that was quite and a section for just families. Bring bug spray, good amount of sunscreen, and your own tumbler. The amount plastic cups is egregious to the planet, plus tumbler is larger and keeps it cold. Drinks, to us they're a bit too sweet or too sour, but any bartender would make the drink was the way you would like. We had to do this often. Also a drink of the day or themed menu would have been a big plus. We did use the kids club and our son enjoyed it. The following employees went way above and beyond and it was a true pleasure to make there acquaintance. Concierge - Kathrin and Andres - Thank you! Bell/shuttle - Kevin - he's the man! Thank you! Hostesses - Rachel and Maryelis (Bamboo and Fassinela) - The sweetest! Thank you! Buffet - Adrianna - A gem! Thank you! Bartender – Hillary – Always a smile – Thank you! Excursions - We booked them and a taxi ride with Erik G. Blue shirt right outside the resort to the beach, can't miss him. We contacted him through WhatsApp in advance of our arrival with several questions and his responses we're timely and helpful. He was fair, followed up and checked in to see how everything went. Our son took surfing lessons in Tamarindo with Pablo, he had a great time and of course can't wait to do it again and wants a surfboard. We took and all day excursion with a private guide to Rio Celeste, coffee farm, sloths, and then mineral springs and mud baths. Long day but a great one. It rained and was cloudy when we went to the waterfall, so the water wasn't the blue you see in the pictures but what can you do with a natural situation. The coffee farm was terrific and it was like visiting with your Costa Rican relatives. We were in within feet of sloths and even inches of a poison dart frog. The mineral baths were awesome. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed covering themselves from head to toe in mud. We have stayed at many resorts in Mexico and visited the DR. We truly enjoyed with this trip. Pricey but did not disappoint. We felt very comfortable everywhere we went and in all we did. The people are friendly, hardworking, and make you feel right at home. Pura Vida!

I was so pleased with all of the staff, they were so happy and friendly. This was really a highlight of our vacation. The food was AWESOME but the staff really made the stay so enjoyable. The rooms were great, clean spacious and wonderfully decorated. My only complaint would be the cheap pod coffee makers in the room...Costa Rica has the best coffee and was disappointed they used pod machines in the room...but we just ordered up coffee. The pool and beach access were simply the best. But it was the staff's attitude that really made this place special. This all inclusive was great!

This was our first trip to Costa Rica and we can’t wait to come back again. We had an amazing time at the Westin Reserva Conchal Resort. The resort was beautifully maintained, had great food quality and choices, and friendly/helpful staff who went above and beyond to make our anniversary trip a very memorable one. Some of the property highlights were the pool, of course, and the nature we saw everyday on our trips to and from our room with Howler Monkeys, Iguanas, and Coati that just immersed us in the Costa Rica experience. We chose to go on a couple of excursions while we were here for the week. After reading several of the reviews here on TripAdvisor, we decided to use Erik Garcia (who you can find with a smile and blue shirt) right outside the property on the beach. Erik was great at listening to what our interests were and matching those with excursions that would fulfill them. We didn’t have to pay Erik upfront for the excursions, we simply paid the guide the day of. By the way, you can pay cash or credit, however, if paying by credit card there is an additional 13 percent tax in Costa Rica. Erik was excellent at sending reminders the evening prior to our excursions and following up afterwards asking for feedback so he can continually improve upon the experiences for his customers. Overall, a great trip of relaxation and fun! Pura Vida!

This is an outstanding hotel and an excellent value for the money. The staff could not be friendlier, the grounds spotless, and ever restaurant without exception is excellent, the sushi is real! The food is prepared with love. When our 7 day vacation turned into 6 because of snowstormageddon, they upgraded us to a beautiful suite at no extra charge! The pools is beautiful but we are beach people…and although the sand was a bit coarse, the beach is natural and very swimmable. The hotel staff brought you chairs and umbrellas as the beach as you arrived because it is public, lots available, and no getting up at 5 am to ensure you would have a spot. We spent every day except one there, enjoying the ocean, getting massages from Gabby while hearing the waves crash and chatting with the beach vendors who are very nice and not pushy. On our off day we took a tour from a guy on the beach with Erik G on his t-shirt…he sent us with a fellow named Ronny who might have been the best tour guide I have ever had. He is also an extremely decent person.. and not all talk.. he lives his values.. he came to the assistance of a young girl who fainted on the stairs of the waterfall while her family looked on panicked, he knew exactly what was wrong and she came around quickly with his intervention.. he cussed out a driver who thru trash out his window.. he stopped in a traffic jam to ensure a kid could cross safely and he told a group of kids crossing the road looking at their phones at a busy intersection to please please look up.. and also went the extra mile for us as we really wanted to see a sloth. ..and gave us a 10 hour tour of the island including waterfalls, stops for shopping, a delicious lunch of local cuisine, .. he made sure we were treated well, and got what we were expecting out of the day. Like the food at the hotel, the day trip was delivered by someone who has a real passion for what they do. Highly recommend this hotel!!
