Such a beautiful peaceful property and wonderful staff! Just a couple minutes from the beach to enjoy and see amazing sunsets! A few restaurants within walking distance. If you need anything, just ask. Everyone does everything in their power to make it happen. We enjoyed our 9 days in the main hotel so much that we are going back next year for a month in a studio apartment there. Can’t wait!
I want to give this hotel a better review because the building, garden and location nearby to the seafront are superb but there were a couple of issues with my stay. Firstly, there is a termite infestation throughout the main building. I had them in my bedroom, bathroom and got bitten badly. Worse, they were all over the kitchen and even inside the fridge that was used to prepare breakfast. Secondly, the breakfast is poor quality and not very varied. If you don't eat scrambled eggs there's no other option. Just a few small pieces of toast with the same jam every day and if you're lucky some rice and beans. The gallo pinto (rice/beans) was cooked up in a big batch and then re-heated in a microwave for the next 4 days. The typical Costa Rican breakfast is very simple but if this hotel wants to appeal to international tourists a little more effort needs to be made. There were some vegan/gluten free visitors there during my stay who had to go with nothing except tea/coffee and juice for breakfast. The pool area and garden is really nice and it's 5min walk from the beach front. There's a great seafood restaurant just around the corner. It is a long walk from the town centre along a busy road. I didn't mind this as I'm used to plenty of exercise but some people might get tired and will have to rely on taxis.…
The hotel is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Play del Coco. It is 2 minutes walk from the beach. What I like the most is the location of the hotel just a little outside the center of the village for absolute tranquility and just close enough to take advantage of all the services. The garden, the swimming pool and the terrace are incredebile. You will also see iguanas, dozens of kinds of birds and of course monkeys... The beach is just cross over the street, si It take max 2 minutes walk. You will see beautiful sunset! The sound of the waves in the distance as well as the birds also brings a lot of charm. Several times I left my laptop, iphone alone in the pool without any fear!!! My apartment door has hardly ever been locked! It’s a very safe place. The hotel offers 2 choices: Fully equipped loft-style apartments and semi-private rooms with private bathroom and shared kitchen-living room. The team of staff are all very kind, polite and helpful. A cleaning lady comes every day. What about Marine (the manager) Such a nice person, wonderful helpful, always smiling, who never says no to anything... ask and you will receive! In addition, she is trilingual. Spanish, English and French. Besides falling in love with the place you will also fall in love with here !! For lovers of scuba diving do not hesitate to ask here she have a diving companie for an excursion Have a nice trip. (sorry for my english, I speak french!:)…
All around nice place to stay to be near the airport. My room was very basic and did not include shampoo. Other guests were not the best.. left their things on the few pool chairs while they went to the beach, took my beers from the communal refrigerator. Beach is very close and great restaurants within 5 minute walk. Main town is 20 min walk.
We were greeted by the new owner, who is so charming and handsome. He brought us to our room, which was nice and clean with fresh linens. The bathroom was spotless with plenty of soft towels. Next stop was the pool; beautifully landscaped with plenty of chaises - a sparkling oasis with sun and shade. We loved the little restaurant. Good food and nice music. Nothing fancy; just a relaxed atmosphere. After dinner we walked to the beautiful beach nearby and gazed at the starts as the waves gently rolled in. A magical experience - so relaxing and carefree. This was the right destination, recommended by friends. We've passed the word along to others who are excited to visit Coco Beach and stay in a clean and comfortable place like this. Our home away from home. Thank you Carlo and your staff for a wonderful time.…
Very nice guest house in lush beautiful gardens with pool. Situated at pleasant edge of town, giving quiet while maintaining ready access to main part of Playas del Coco. 2 minute walk to beach. Property well maintained, on site staff pleasant and efficient; rooms cleaned every day; breakfast good. Property well managed by Marine, who is on hand as and when needed; able to give good local recommendations on restaurants, etc. Villa del Sol is, as it accurately represents itself, a guest house, not a full service hotel. Represents good value.
We ordered dinner from the Wok menu. Our meals were visually appetizing with great flavour! Service was great and the music was very good! The entertainement for the month is on facebook. Michelle and the staff do a superb job!
The hotel itself was good! Clean, spacious rooms. The pool area and little garden is lovely. It's a 20 minute beach walk to town or a 5 min drive. I was traveling solo and felt super safe walking back and forth even at night. Based off the other reviews on here, my guess is I just caught the management on an off week, but my experience there was pretty strange. Weeks before I arrived I asked if they could help me arrange transportation to Arenal Volcano (~3hr drive from Coco). Marine, the onsite manager, said she'd be happy to help and that we could figure it out when I arrived at the hotel. It took me 2 days after checking in to find her (or any management on site...which is strange, but I rolled with it). She said she would look into options and get back to me. I saw her two days later, when I asked about getting to Arenal she said she was still looking into it...I offered to handle it (seemed like this maybe wasn't a priority to her, and it def was to me) but she insisted that she would take care of it. Fast forward to the day I needed to leave for Arenal. I hadn't seen or heard from Marine in 24hrs. So I start looking into options myself but everything is turning up dry. Before heading into town to just hail down a cab, I find the sweet cleaning lady who helps me call Marine on her cell phone. After a lot of back and forth she gets a driver that costs $100+...There's a daily running shuttle that is $40-$50, they just need 24 hours notice :-l Off-weeks happen, seems like that's what this was. But it was a bummer that her off-week caused me to lose half a day in panic, plus a chunk of change :-/ Also, kinda gross, but as long as we're leaving honest reviews....I had a poltergeist-esque invasion of flies make their way into my room over the course of two days. Something must have hatched somewhere, cause I'm talking hundreds (and I didn't have food or anything outside the fridge). It was disgusting, but I wrote it off to weird stuff that comes with enjoying tropical locations. Would have been nice if I could have found management to help me deal with it, but given they weren't easily accessible, I just chased them around with bug spray and swept them into a heaping, gross, dead pile.…
We spent one month in Costa Rica at Villa Del Sol. Marine, the manager, is an asset to the place and a nice lady who realy help us out in our stay at the place. We did some visit to Bleu River and Arenal where we stay in La Fortuna for one night. To me it was enough and I don't think will ever go back to Costa Rica.
FYI: The featured photo on this page is not of this hotel’s pool area. Check the other photos for a more accurate depiction. My friend and I just returned from a 4-night stay at Villa del Sol. When we arrived, we checked in with the receptionist in the villa. She couldn’t find my reservation at first, but then she did once I told her I booked it with Hotels.com. We originally booked a room with a queen bed and a sleeper couch, but she was kind enough to move us to a room with two beds. Another plus is that this hotel is a two minute walk from the beach and a 10-15 minute walk to the main street in Coco. The room itself (Studio #3) was fine. It’s a budget hotel. The kitchen area was outdated but functional. The air conditioner barely worked (even on the lowest temperature setting) and we went to bed sweating every night. There were ants EVERYWHERE. At first we panicked about this, but then we made peace with it since it’s Costa Rica and there are thousands of species of ants in Costa Rica. We also had a house gecko in the corner of our room for our entire stay. He didn’t do a great job of getting rid of the ants, but he was cute. The day after we arrived, a large group arrived and moved into the private villa. After this, we could not find reception for a few days since it was no longer located in the villa. There were a number of times when we wanted to ask questions or hire a taxi and we could not find anyone to ask. This was very frustrating. Overall, the location of the hotel, the hammocks, and the beautiful trees and birds on the grounds almost made up for the negative aspects of our stay. We had a great time regardless, but if we visit Coco again we will be staying elsewhere. It might be worth it to spend a little more money and get a nicer place, but if budget is your main concern you’ll probably be fine at this hotel.…
