My boyfriend and I were originally very excited about our stay at Colores del Pacifico. The pictures looked beautiful, as did the idea of sunsets in Playa Flamingo, and in general we were looking forward to relaxing at this property. Little did we know, our stay at Colores del Pacifico was our most stressful travel experience to date. Colores del Pacifico is located near the top of a hill, and given the hot temperatures in the region and lack of rainfall, it is a region prone to fires. On our third day at Colores, when we were returning from a day at the beach, we spotted a fire near the top of the hill. As we approached in our taxi, we saw a number of employees hosing down the property next door, which was entirely lit in flames. Needless to say, Colores del Pacifico was in a cloud of smoke, and was at risk of going under fire as well. My boyfriend and I were told to quickly collect our belongings and leave, in the interest of our own safety. So we did just that, and ran down the long road from Colores with all our bags, in search of a hotel. Given the last minute notice, we were only able to find a run-down hotel to stay in that evening, our last night in Costa Rica. We called Ben, Colores' manager, to check in on the fire and request reimbursement for the night's stay - which he agreed to. Over the past year, we've emailed Ben ~10-15 times asking for our reimbursement, and despite numerous responses from him, we have yet to receive our reimbursement, and it is very clear he does not intend to reimburse us. I am telling you this story because I highly recommend staying elsewhere in Playa Flamingo. While the staff appears friendly, if anything goes wrong (Re: FIRE), they will not help you or reimburse you. They're also located at the top of the hill, and it is an expensive taxi ride to get to anywhere else in Playa Flamingo. You will be much better off staying at one of the many hotels located at ground level, closer to the water, and near restaurants in the area. I have never written a TripAdvisor review before, but I felt it was necessary given the abysmal treatment we've received since our stay at Colores. I urge you to strongly consider staying elsewhere!

Booked this on Airbnb and had a lovely experience. When we arrived, there was a misunderstanding about our reservation, however the host welcomed us and accommodation was taken care of promptly. This place is so special and beautiful. The decor and whole structure of the property is so well thought out down to the smallest details. We learned during our stay that it will only be open for rent to the public for a few more months. Soon it will return to a private residence with long term rental options in the extended rooms. If you are lucky enough to stay here you will love it. It is hard to leave once you are there.

I had a very unfortunate event happen to me prior to staying at Colores del Pacifico. All my important belongings got stolen at the Tamarindo Beach and I came to Colores in despair. The owners were so kind and accommodating. They tried to help me in any way they can. Aside from the people the property is absolutely beautiful, built on top of a hill over looking the water surrounding the cove, I've had many days where I just soaked in the infinity pool pondering about various things and finding the appreciation surrounding. I would love to go back again.

We booked this place with Air b&b. It was the best investment my friends and I ever made. It was beautiful. We stayed for 6 days, 5 nights. So much better than staying in a hotel. It was in the mountains. Every morning we woke up and went right to the infinity pool. The owner, Ben was also very nice and was able to provide us with anything we needed. The accommodations were also great! Very clean and just so relaxing. It was kind of like being in a lavish tree house. So many levels and surrounded by so much nature and beauty! I already want to go back!

We arrived at Colores del Pacifico after booking through Expedia. We found out after we got the that Expedia did not book our room or confirm it. Ben, the owner did give us a room and was generous about the confusion. It will most likely be my last time booking with Expedia. A few things about this property: It's beautiful. The rooms are nice and the pool is lovely with a great view. It is no longer a bed and breakfast. You go to a shared kitchen and can get fruit and yogurt. They are actually shutting down soon as a place to stay. Rent a car. You will want and need it. It's easy to get around. Drive to different beaches and restaurants. Are favorite bean turned out to be Playa Flamingo. Are favorite restaurant in the area was Cafe Celeste. Look it up. It was always a great dining experience. Coco Loco on Playa Flamingo beach was another favorite. The fish tacos are excellent. There were bugs in our room and we found three scorpions. I was not bothered by this because it's Costa Rica and to be expected. My wife was freaked out and hardly slept all week. We also had a fairly large snake outside of our room one night. Bring a flashlight so you can scan the walkway as you enter your room. Overall, the Colores...was a nice place to stay. Playa Flamingo was such a laid back, beautiful town. Loved it and the people!

We arrived at 01h30 due to a long flight delay, and the staff had kindly left instructions on how to find our room. Unfortunately we were pretty tired, having been awake over 25 hours, we only saw the front of two sheets in the clear plasti envelope, so spent about 40 minutes stumbling up and down the hilly site in the dark with two suitcases looking for our room. We saw plenty of wildlife, including a large tarantula on the outside wall of what we worked out was our bedroom. This is quite normal in this latitude. We found a lounge below our bedroom, overlooking the ocean, small infinity pool, feral cats on the settees and walking around on the kitchen surfaces. Grateful to get to bed about 02h30, the sheets were a bit cheap but we were so tired..... I was woken about an hour later by something crawling on the bed. We both jumped out of the bed so quickly we startled one of the cats walking on the bed, another one in the room. I eventually managed to get the cats out, my wife very upset as she is allergic to cats, she gets very itchy. Went back to sleep, cats in the room again an hour later, we found they were getting in via a door which we could not lock due to the bolt being broken. Jammed it with a chair. Neither of us could sleep properly, cats scratching at the door they were used to getting into kept us awake. We went down to breakfast, lovely views over the bay. A lady asked us if we had found our room ok, when we tried to explain we had struggled she simply walked away. We sat down, waited, two other couples in the large room. No one approached us to show us what to do, we had to ask. We asked for tea, and chose the last two slices of brown bread to toast. There was plenty of cheap white bread, but only a little brown left. The serve yourself toaster did not work properly, it apparently only came on when you jammed down the lever really hard. We didn't know this, so our toast took ages. A gentleman asked if we would like fried or scrambled eggs. I asked for an omelette, my wife's request for poached eggs was not even entertained. Our bed and breakfast rate was over $200 per night. The eggs came, I got fried eggs with cheese on top, and explained this was not an omelette. My wife had to settle for fried. How's the tea coming on? "Coming soon!" after explaining to the cook how to make omelette, she produced a very good one. We asked for more brown bread, the gentleman had to go to the back and cut us the last two pieces. Thought I had got the hang of the toaster until the toast got stuck in the machine. Tea soon please? "Coming!" We were now alone in the room exept for one other couple. The gentleman behind the bar offered me a pair of metal tongs to extract the stuck toast, I declined, I wanted to enjoy my holiday without the luxury of free electrocution. While he was holding the toaster upside down trying to extract part of our breakfast the tea eventually arrived. The tea pot handle was so hot, I scalded my hand trying to lift it. I am a builder, I have tough skin. We used a cloth, tried to pour but the little clip which was supposed to hold the top on the teapot was not secured. The top of the pot came off, hot tea poured all over the table, over us, the floor. This was like Fawlty Towers, my wife wisely told me we were leaving. We had been there less than eight hours. For the price we paid, we expected a good nights sleep and decent breakfast, and as they were unable to provide either, we left. We thought the owners of Colores del Pacifico would have been sufficiently concerned why pre-paying guests had left so abruptly they may try and contact us to find out what the problem was. They had our telephone numbers etc, but as we had not heard from the hotel for over two weeks after our return, we approached the owners on our return for a refund, we had booked and paid for seven nights. We thought we should pay for some of the time, but certainly not all of it. Our reasoning was we paid for bed and breakfast, neither of which was close to satisfactory, the breakfast was potentially life threatening! The owners eventually responded, with an email headed "crazy guests" stating we were just not used to Costa Rican wildlife. Well, that's the main reason of our visit, nature. The owner also stated other guests had asked for "the cats to be taken away" but as he claimed the cats kept the snakes away, it was either, and I quote " cats or snakes". Well, we managed to find a lovely hotel very close by, on the beach, presumably with snakes as well as all the other wildlife. We had a good sleep, no cats in the room. We actually decided to stay at several places in our week in Costa Rica, from a luxury hotel and spa to a small B&B, $60 per night, right next to a lovely nature reserve. No cats in the rooms there either. The staff at these places were very polite, the cooks could also make any type of egg you wanted, no problem. The owner of Colores del Pacifico claimed in an email we had been offered an upgrade. This was just not true, we did not want and were not offered any upgrade, we just wanted to leave. He also claimed the cook had been with him ten years, enough time, I would have thought, to train them up to cook a simple omelette. The views from Colores del Pacifico are lovely. The staff need training. They need to get a decent safe toaster, and if they only offer eggs for breakfast, which is fine, the cook should be able to offer more options than "fried or scrambled" for $200 per night. A comfortable sleep and enjoyable breakfast should be the minimum a small hotel like this should offer, and paying guests who have enjoyed neither should not be labelled crazy by the owner. Don't risk this place, we found much nicer places with helpful, friendly staff, at a lower cost, quite close by.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying here. It is a beautiful property, reminiscent of a retreat. The common house is lovely, and best of all, it is an open, comfortable living room leading to the infinity pool and a wonderful view of Playa Flamingo. The layout is typical of Costa Rican hillside properties/villas with different levels accessible by outdoor stairs. Our room had a comfy king, and one wall of sliders that overlooked a private patio with a hammock and a small pool with cushioned bench (jacuzzi size but not heated, which was nice to take a cool dip right off of our room). We spent two late afternoons on the patio having cold Imperials (Costa Rican beer), reading and eventually napping in the hammock or on the cushions. The bathroom had a large double-sink vanity, shelves for storage and a huge shower. The water closet was detached from the bathroom located at the rear of a big walk-in closet. There was a small refrigerator and a dining table with two chairs, which we took advantage of one night eating take out. There were tea light candles and candle holders throughout the room, which we lit at night for ambience, and the keeping staff replaced them throughout our stay. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Ben was so helpful and called us not too long after we arrived at Liberia airport to make sure we made it OK and got our rental car. Kathy was delightful and I really enjoyed taking a yoga class from her. The open-air studio is awesome and the view is amazing--what a beautiful practice and meditation space! My husband enjoyed chatting with Yves in the morning before breakfast. Breakfast was eggs cooked to order, fresh fruit, toast, pastries, coffee and fresh juice. Tips/recommendations: -Rent a car. The property is just a short drive to stores and restaurants in Playa Flamingo, Portero and Brasalito. We did walk to lunch in Playa Flamingo which is about a mile away, but after sunset it's very dark and you have to walk along the road, no sidewalks. Having been to Costa Rica before we knew this, but we've talked to people who visit CR for the first time and they have been surprised about walking along the road. -If you rent a car, follow the directions you receive in the confirmation email. The directions might read "turn right at Banco Nacional, then turn right into the driveway with the sign" but these directions are very typical for Costa Rica. You will go up a steep incline to get to Colores del Pacifico and will pass a few homes. The directions will say to stay to the left and when you do, you will eventually come to the property gate. If you get lost, stop into one of the Supers (stores) or restaurants in Playa Flamingo and ask. Ticos are very nice and will gladly offer directions, and many speak English in the area. Since it is a small community, many will know where the property is. -The sliders in our room were beautiful wood and glass, but they are rustic in a sense that there was a small gap between the door and floor. This meant that you might see an occasional sugar ant (non-biting kind) make it's way into the room, but it's very typical of Costa Rica because it's still very much a wild beauty. We kept the shades drawn at night when we had the lights on to not attract bugs. We heard howler monkeys at night but never saw any. -The sink in our water closet was tiny. Likely the smallest sink I've ever seen. It's just there for hand washing since the main bathroom has double sinks. It's a tiny sink but the water pressure is MIGHTY! By the third day there I finally got used to not turning the faucet too much and was able to leave without splashing water all over my shirt. The water closet isn't air conditioned, but there's a screened window so some air comes through. -Nearby restaurants we recommend: Coco Loco is on the beach and our favorite in the area; Beach House is good for burgers, sandwiches; Tubla for wood-fired oven pizza; Flamingo Beach Resort restaurant. Colores del Pacifico has a notebook in the room with local attractions and list of recommendations. -If you have a car, go to Playa Danta and Playa Danita. These are adjacent to each other accessible in a public beach area with parking available. The drive is about 20 minutes from the property and is scenic since it goes along the coast line up the hills. Highly recommend Playa Danita but there is a hike to get there, so wear sneakers. We learned the hard way the first time by trekking in flip flops. Not impossible but sneakers are so much easier. The hike is well worth it to enjoy this secluded white sand beach and crystal clear water.

We really enjoyed our stay at Colores Del Pacifico.. The pool is incredible, for sure by night.. The water is warm and you can stay a long time swimming in the water, watching the lights and listening to the sea.. Also in the day we spend a lot of time in the pool area.. Very relaxing place.. The rooms are nice, they have a hippyfeeling to them.. The people from the hotel are also very friendly.. The only point i had was that the service could have been a bit more on point during breakfast.. Breakfast itself was ok, i think there could have been more variety, and a freshly pressed orange juice, but overall it was ok.. About the service, although the people are very nice, i had the feeling i had to look for them a couple of times in their office, asking for my hot drink for example.. Also a good tip is to arrive when there is still light.. We arrived in the dark, which wasn't such a good idea, and spend over 60 euros of roamingcosts to try to find the place, its not really well signed and we couldn't reach the hotel by phone.. So better to arrive before sundown.. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here!

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Colores Del Pacifico. The view from the grounds and the room are amazing, overlooking Playa Potreros and the harbor. The setting up on the hill made for mind-blowing sunsets from our balcony. Our room was clean, comfortable with style and private. The pool was perfect for cooling down on hot days. The friendly staff at Colores Del Pacifico really made our stay one to remember. We arrived after dark from the airport and were greeted by Kathy who made our check-in quick and hassle free, she even made us reservations for a wonderful little Italian restaurant, La Sodita Italiana. We took advantage of the included breakfast almost every day with fresh fruit, eggs and more. Kim was a wonderful hostess and great source of information on the local eateries and beaches, friendly and helpful. On other days, Ben was our friendly host and had the scoop on the best surfing and more. We could not have chosen a better destination for our anniversary, the experience was wonderfully relaxing and romantic.

My wife and I chose Colores del Pacifico because it was so much different than the other local hotel locations. We were not disappointed! This is a family owned hotel who is there on site and they have an amazing staff who are very helpful. The staff speaks a variety of languages and go above and beyond to make your stay special! The Infiniti pool was breath taking and our beach view suite had its own outdoor spa and hammock overlooking the bay. The Hotel does set up on a mountain side, and is a bit of a steep drive, but it is well worth it for the views. Howler monkeys will welcome you in the morning and Iguanas appear from time to time to just say hello. The hotel is centrally located and is surrounded by several great restaurants in the area. Be sure to ask for Kim if you show up on a weekend, she was amazing! The hotel offers yoga classes as well as messages. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. We will definitely return for another visit!
