The pressure during shower left us wanting. WiFi was also not good strength. Prices charged are reasonable. There is a beach within short walking distance. All in all, good place to unwind with your loved ones.
I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Don’t bother wasting your time. It is not as advertised. Don’t let it ruin your trip, like it did to ours. The hotel claims to be 1.4 miles from Tamarindo, which is incredibly misleading. What they fail to tell you is that a crocodile infested river separates the property from the town. It is inaccessible by foot and can only be reached by a water taxi (which stop running at 4pm) or by a 45 minute cab ride. We would have NEVER booked this property if we realized that simply going for dinner in town was going to cost us a hefty cab fee and a 45 minute drive each way. When we came to the hotel, it was still under renovation. We wanted to sit by the pool, but there was still work being done around us. There is a “gate” meant to keep the property secure. However, the code we were given did not let us into the property. After a night out, we were left locked outside and unable to unlock the entrance. We called and messaged the property, and did not hear a response until 8:30am. We were eventually able to get back into the property by squeezing into a crack in the gate that had been left open. It was incredibly unsafe. El Manglar failed to take responsibility and said they had “no proof” we were locked out. I have attached screenshots of our messages with the hotel. We had intended on staying for 4 nights, but after our awful experience on night 1, we decided to leave. The hotel refused to give us any (partial) refund or compensation. They were initially unresponsive to both us and booking.com. When we eventually did get a response, they again, took zero responsibility. The bathroom in our room stunk of mould and there was a distinct mouldy residue on the bathroom door. The shower overflowed each time we used it. The toilet in our room did not flush properly. Simply put - DO NOT STAY HERE. Don’t let this place dupe you like it did for us. Trust me, I wouldn’t want anyone else to have such a horrible experience. Save your time and money and find somewhere else. I would give them zero stars if I could. The only reason they are getting one star, is because we liked the girls who worked at reception. Otherwise, it was trash.…
This hotel is situated in a unique location. It's a small community with great access to the beach, restaurants, and Tamarindo. The rooms were comfortable and the air conditioning ideal. Extremely safe, great parking for our rental car, and tours if we wanted them or not. I would suggest bringing bottled water (if that's your thing), as the little grocery store may or may not be open.
I thought the hotel was great value for the price. The rooms were well equipped (good coffee machine in the room/ amenities), the hotel was cute, located next to a beautiful beach, and had very friendly staff. The rooms could be loud as the doors were poor fitting and the windows let a lot of noise in (the hotel next door was also noisy). Easy to get into town in the day via boat (for $1), but difficult at night as they stop at 5pm. The area is quiet but there are restaurants nearby. If you're looking for a quiet hotel, easy access to town and a great beach, this is perfect!
HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! I booked our stay and then the group we were traveling with changed locations so I contacted them immediately (less than 24 hours later) and they would not return my phone calls or emails. After the 3rd email, I finally received a reply that they had not charged me as they don't collect payment until the date of your stay. I explained my situation and they agreed to analyze my reservation and let me know for the cancellation. They never contacted me again and charged me TWICE!!!! I will be disputing charges with my credit card company but save yourself the hassle and DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE!!!!
My husband and I are retired. The world has reopened and we are ready to travel again. Costa Rica during the rainy season is a dream. It rains every day cooling things off. We found a perfect place to stay. El Manglar beach hotel in Playa Grande. At night the area is gate restricted to residents only. We were walking distance to a beautiful sandy beach. Surf and boogie board rentals as well as lessons are available on sight. I spent the majority of my lazy evenings listening to music swinging in a hammock on the patio of our poolside unit. The patio is also equipped with a grill, seating, and ceiling fan. The unit had a full kitchen stocked with all necessities. Highly professional and friendly staff, Andreas and Yonya made sure we had everything we needed. There's plenty of parking for rental cars. Directly across the street is a path to the beach or you can relax in the Chill Out area which offers a basketball court, ping pong table, hammocks and yoga. Tropical birds lull you to sleep at night and gently wake you in the morning. For my fellow pet lovers, this resort is dog friendly. There's a pool and swim bar on sight. There are plenty of restaurants in walking distance. Big Thanks again to Andreas and Yonya. We are very grateful that you were on sight for our visit. Seasoned travelers know that the staff can make or break your get away vacations.…
Great spot! Very quiet, just what we were looking for. Their other hotel the Cantarana has a GREAT restaurant. Would highly recommend staying at El Manglar; clean rooms, nice AC, pool's perfect and in the shade in the afternoon but mostly; your'e a 1 min walk from the beach. Javier and the staff were super helpful for tips on what to do and also to arrange transport for us! We'll be back xxxxx
We stayed again this year in the two room Villa. The Villa is great and all the staff are wonderful. Andrea and Steph at the front desk took care of everything we needed. Dennis taught my boys how to wax surfboards and Javier is always so welcoming. We love this place...it feels like our home away from home. We'll be back...but not soon enough!!
This review is specifically for the staff at Hotel El Manglar since I actually ended up staying at their sister property Cantarana, 50 yards down the road. I booked a reservation at El Manglar for 3 nights. When i arrived to check in, my reservation wasn't in their system. Andrea at the front desk did some digging and it turned out Expedia had cancelled my reservation for some reason and never informed me. Unfortunately El Manglar didn't have any more vacancies so I was a bit nervous about not finding a place to stay and having my vacation plans disrupted. Andrea's upbeat attitude kept me from worrying and she was able to find me a room at their sister property, Cantarana. I was extremely impressed by Andreas service throughout my stay. She helped me arrange for a night turtle tour, a surf lesson, and answered all of my questions. I don't remember the name of the tour company that ran the turtle tour, but they were awesome! Super knowledgeable and friendly! And Jorge, the surf instructor was amazing! He had a super positive attitude and was extremely patient and detailed in helping me with my first surf lesson! Overall, my stay in Playa Grande was amazing because of the amazing staff at El Manglar & Cantarana! I hope I get a chance to visit again!…
Good hotel. Big room. Plenty of places to park if you’re driving. Friendly staff. Water isn’t cold but doesn’t’ really get warm either. If you are a hot shower person may not be hotel for you. Great location. You can walk to beach in 60 seconds.
