This lovely hotel is well maintained, quiet and friendly. Federico and his brothers keep the grounds meticulously clean. There are only 5 rooms which adds to its quaintness, there is a pool in the center of the grounds and lots of shade with many local animals to enjoy. There is a restaurant on the second floor of the main building... More

Playa Grande is Tamarindo’s quiet, restful neighbor. An easy $3.00/person boat ride across the estuary, from the crowds and all the usual atmosphere of the noisy, popular beach town. If you prefer to be close to a long, lonely beach, great for surfing, walking and shells, then try Cantarana on Playa Grande. Very tasteful rooms with TV. Large bathroom. Nice... More

My wife and I looked for a nice, comfortable and friendly hotel and we found it! This hotel is the best spot in the area. The rooms are super clean, with a safety box, TV and Cable, great pool and a great garden area. There is another plus, the restaurant is amazing! Serving breakfast and dinner, the restaurant is really... More

Cantarana: one of the best hotels we have visited. Fully recommended!! We stayed there for a whole week during high season. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and easy to access. We liked the idea of staying at a small hotel (only five rooms) which gave us the opportunity to really enjoy the pool and all the surroundings. Every morning... More

Amazing hotel and restaurant!!! Totally recommended for any occasion, anniversary, honey moon, vacations! The restaurant was excellent, food and service! We enjoyed the pool and happy hour!!! Also, the room was lovely! The bed was so comfortable we could've sleep all day! Gladly we didn't do that, otherwise we would've missed the amazing surroundings of Playa Grande!! Just one word...... My bride and I decided on Hotel Cantarana for our Honeymoon after we heard rave reviews from my brother-in-law and his wife. And it exceeded our expectations! Just a two minute walk to a seemingly private beach, it's perfectly located for a romantic getaway. With a super great restaurant adjacent to the hotel (try the pizza and the Tuna Luna),... More

The staff made everything they could to make us feel welcome, and were able to arrange activities for us with a moments notice (massages, horseback riding, surf lessons at their other hotel, Hote el Manglar) plus give us great advice for our next Costa Rican adventure. If you are looking for a non-touristy place to relax, meet some fine people,... More

My husband and I, along with our two teenage sons unanimously loved our stay at Hotel Cantarana. Located just minutes from the breathtaking and practically isolated stretch of Playa Grande, the rooms are spacious and clean, the grounds are well-kept and the breakfasts/dinners were very good. We rented bicycles and rode all around the surrounding areas, including up and down... More

We started our approx. 2 week trip in Costa Rica with our two year old toddler for a quick two nights at Hotel Cantarana in the Playa Grande area, and we really enjoyed our time there! The booking process was simple, and Lioba was so attentive and prompt with her answers we immediately felt comfortable. This hospitality was extended during... More
