Best possible location on the beach, easy walk to town, pristine palm grove between hotel rooms and beach, clean and secure, delightful host who grills a perfect mahi-mahi, well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, constant fresh sea breeze needs no air conditioning, and delicious coffee.
We LOVED. staying at Fenix Hotel! There are hammocks and chairs right by the beach for lounging. There only 6 units so few guests. There’s a freshwater pool which is perfect to rinse off post seawater or just for a fun dip. It’s an easy 10min walk into town by beach. The rooms are simple and clean with what you need for simple cooking. The owner, Jay, is helpful and fun for a chat about life in Costa Rica which he clearly enjoys! We hope to return soon!
This place is spectacular. We were a group of 12 that filled all six rooms in the main hotel area. It was our own little paradise. Roll out of bed, make coffee in the room, wander down to the sandy beach a few hundred feet away, maybe jump in the pool 'cause it's between you and the beach. Lay in a hammock, wander up the beach for a foray into town or around the corner to a well stocked corner store. Jay made booking excursions easy, but the place was so nice you might not want to leave it for a day! Kitchen allowed for in-house cooking if that's your jam, or many cheap delicious restaurants all around. Waves roll and crash all day long, water is warm and inviting, ocean breeze to keep things cool, plenty of shade if you want it. Exceeded all our expectations. Animal life gets a bit loud at night, so you might want to bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. …
What an amazing place the Fenix hotel was! We were a group of 12 friends who rented out all six rooms. We truly enjoyed our week long stay . If you are looking for a place that is laid back with speculator ocean views - this is it !
We visited Samara the first week of March. My husband and I joined 5 other couples and friends to fill The Fenix Hotel. With never traveling to this country, we quickly realized that we would spend most of our 10 days outside. Rain never appeared, but we did have a few clouds some days. Our time was spent riding the waves, walking the 1 mile down the beach to town for dinner, snorkeling on the coral reef by Isle Chora, horse back riding, having cook outs, swimming in the pool and relaxing under the palms on the exquisite grounds between the hotel and ocean. Some days we witnessed Howler Monkeys in the trees, iguanas racing on the sand and geckos. We really only landed in our room to sleep by the light of the full moon. It is hot during the dry season, but we preferred to keep our curtains open to feel the breeze and listen to the ocean and nocturnal animals. The ceiling fan was enough to keep us cool. One of our favorite morning rituals was to make Costa Rican coffee in the sock. Drink it on the loungers with a Roots Pastry in hand after taking a morning dip in the ocean. Our group rented a golf cart from Samara Adventures. This gave us opportunities to make quick trips to town when needed. Bar Las Palmitas is two doors down for a quick drink and an easy lunch/dinner. Jay, the owner, was so accommodating. He responded to our every travel whim and helped organize the plans, usually with Samara Adventures. He is up with the sun making sure the grounds are raked, garden is watered and the loungers are ready. Some of the activities we did that he helped us with were: Day trip to Arenal, Sunset Cruise, massages under the yard canopy, dinner in town (reservations), grilling on the premises (he got the fish and grilled), renting the golf cart, horse back rides and exchanging money. Not to mention that he answered the millions of questions about the culture, neighborhood, and lifestyle. He certainly goes above and beyond to take care of his guests. The Fenix is an alluring hotel that gives you all the modern conveniences of an efficiency (including towels), a swimming pool, an ocean front view and even a respite under the trees when the sun gets too hot! These specialties along with immersion in the neighborhood will allow you to absorb the true lifestyle of the locals and soak in the Pura Vida way of life. Can’t wait to return to paradise.…
Always a great time in paradise. Clean, convenient, with ready access to the beach. The town and people are awesome, as is the hotel owner. We spent 10-days here and highly recommend unplugging and relaxing here. The sunsets are awesome!!!
Our favorite in Costa Rica, already looking forward to our next visit. It's the perfect location for relaxation by the beach and pool with easy access to Samara for restaurants, bars, food and gift shopping, etc.
This place is literally a slice of paradise. Jay did not disappoint in his efforts to ensure a wonderful stay. I will be back and highly recommend to anyone considering this place for your upcoming vacation.
Ocean sounds all day long. Feet from the beach. Place to cool off if needed. If you’re looking to disconnect from everyday life, this is it. Beach life at its best! Have the amenities of home(refrigerator, stove, etc.) to stay in or walk down the beach for food. It’s a beach hotel!
This our 2nd time visiting the Fenix and definitely not our last. We rented the whole hotel for 10 days! We had an amazing time. Jay the owner was beyond helpful with organizing excursions helping us cook meals and the grill and really just catering to our every need. The grounds around the hotel are maintained spectacularly as are the rooms. From floating in the pool to riding the waves of the ocean or napping in a hammock this place has it all. I can't wait for our next visit.
