Selina tamarindo has been the worst of all the Selina’s. Not only is it quite dirty but most of the amenities are broken such as locks on door, hobs in kitchen, AC’s and remotes. But worst of all, one of the staff members was extremely rude when I asked for help because I was locked outside my room in just a towel due to the locks on the doors not working because they are battery powered. We waited 15 minutes because we timed it, whilst being eaten alive my mosquitoes and when I went back to see if help was coming she gave me attitude and yelled at me saying it hasn’t even been 5 minutes, wait! Which was not the case. They sent someone to fix it but it only lasted 10 minutes working and then we were locked out again, wasting most of our afternoon waiting for this lock to be fixed. In other words, find different accommodation in tamarindo as the place is lovely but not the Selina!…

I’ve traveled some countries already and visited many hostels but it’s the first time that staff wanted my credit card information to extend the reservation even if I declared to pay cash directly. Also 5$ for towel is already too much. Staff is also not very well informed about getting to other places nearby with local transport. Food in hostel is overpriced as well.

First things first, the location of this hostel is insane! Right in the centre of all bars, restaurants, clubs, shops, a two minute walk from the beach etc etc. So having been to the Selina in La Fortuna and in Monteverde, I was hopeful for the standards of the Selina in Tamarindo as well. Unfortunately, the beds are a lot smaller with a lot less privacy (not even a rail for privacy curtains). The beds were not very comfy as you can feel all the springs through the mattress. The rooms are a lot smaller hence there is no storage space in or around the beds for luggage or clothes so the floor was covered with backpacks and suitcases which made it hard to move around. The facilities were quite good - really good food from the kitchens. Nice pool area and social area. Slightly odd happy hour compared to the other Selinas; between 3pm and 5pm when nobody has started drinking properly, there are only 3 drinks available and they are 8000 colones rather than 6000 colones in the other Selinas. As a solo backpacker however, it really improves the experience to have a good relationship with the staff at the hostel. KEVIN on reception and JOSÉ (new) at the bar are absolutely amazing! They really made me feel like friends in the hostel (and genuine friends, not just because they were being paid to do so) chatting to me when they saw me both in the hostel and on nights out. This goes a LONG way to improving the experience as a solo traveller and making you feel at home. Those two guys are absolutely amazing and are a credit to the Selina in Tamarindo - as not all the staff were as welcoming... So overall an ok place to stay; the rooms could be nicer when compared to the other Selinas, the staff could make you feel more at home, but the location is insanely good, the facilities are good and the price is fairly reasonable as well. And KEVIN and JOSÉ are just amazing!!…

We booked a shuttle with this spot, emailed repeatedly, and never got an answer. This led to a chaotic day of calling every shuttle in town. A simple response would have made our day better. Lesson learned, If Selina doesn’t answer, move on. Don’t do what we did!

First, I'd like to say thank you to Tony, Mercy, Óscar, Vale, Jairo and all the staff from this place who treated me awesome. I went from Friday 21 to Monday, January 24th 2022 and had a beautiful time. I booked a Suite room and it is perfect, clean, spacious and comfortable. They provide shower gel, shampoo and conditioner so no need to carry these items on your luggage. The swimming pool and bar area are well maintained, there was a DJ on Saturday's afternoon. Breakfast was pretty good and way satisfying. This is a place where I will DEFINITELY go back. Thank you all :)

This Selina is fine but very overpriced for the experience compared to other hostels. Due to covid, they do not fill dorms, which is nice as you get only 4 people in an 8 bed dorm. However, the police shut the bar area down while we were there due to Covid breaches. Therefore, the common area was non existent and there was little or no atmosphere in the hostel. As Tamarindo is a party area, we were disappointed with the lack of people & parties in the hostel. The kitchen was good, with many appliances and space. The pool area was nice too. Rooms are clean and there is a surf school linked to the hostel. Overall it was an ok experience but expensive compared to other Selinas

For a hostel it was what was expected given the pricing. BUT with COVID every place shuts down at 9 including the bar at selinas and at a certain point they even lock the door and guests aren’t even allowed to come over to hang out. What’s the point of staying at a hostel if you can not bring new people to socialize. With COVID restrictions again it does make but at this point a curfew should be enforced in selinas if there’s not going to be any going out past 10 or coming in instead of having a bunch of drunk people shouting at 2 am blasting music when the places have long been shut down. If you guys are going to enforce certain policies. Loud music shouldn’t really even be playing in a hostel where the walls are so thin they’re not even there. What my point is , how are you going to be strict on COVID regulations and then fail when it comes to stuff like that. It’s pretty annoying. Some people aren’t just going to stay up hours after everything closes and are preparing for early activities in the morning or their flights. No guests, no bar after 9. Gate closes after 9 but random kids can blast music at 2 am like it’s perfectly normal. Thanks but no thanks next time…

I loved everything about this place! The vibe was always warm and welcoming. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The showers were hot and the bathrooms were always clean as well. However, the best part of this hostel is the staff! They were more like a welcoming family than employees. Minkyung and Mercy were amazing bartenders and were so fun to talk to. I highly recommend staying here !!
