My husband and I found MEHV by chance when planning a last-minute honeymoon. We had points from JetBlue so were going to plan to go to a destination to which they fly. I searched "vegan friendly destinations," and MEHV popped up. Since JetBlue flies to Costa Rica, we figured, why not? Best. Decision. Ever. Firstly, Tamarindo, where the hotel is located, is beautiful. There is seemingly endless coastline filled with beautiful beaches, and there is so much natural beauty to discover. The hotel is a little further away from downtown, which at first we thought might be a problem, but honestly, the heart of Tamarindo gets a little crazy at night with seemingly nonstop partying, so we were grateful to be a little off the beaten path. It's an easy enough walk there and back, but on days we were feeling a little tired (or a little too full on great food and drinks), you can get a taxi for $3-5 to go from the center of town to the hotel. But now onto the hotel - everything was incredible. The hotel arranged for our transport from the airport, and when we arrived to check in, we were greeted with complimentary hibiscus mocktails. When we got to the room, the staff had set up a lovely surprise of cava and chocolate pastries as a congratulations on our marriage, which was so incredibly thoughtful. The room was the nicest room I've ever stayed in - spacious, impeccably designed, super comfy king-sized bed, and a terrace with a huge hammock that we used a lot in the mornings to relax and read before starting our days. The on-site restaurant, Off the Grid, is SO GOOD. Yes, it's not as cheap as other food around Tamarindo, but the price is justified by both the high quality of the food and the fact that the place creates a fine dining experience. We ate there about half the nights during our stay and tried a lot of items. Everything was incredible, but our two favorites were the BLT and the crab cakes. BLT sounds super basic, but they make bacon out of oyster mushrooms that they cook for hours until they're crispy and basically melt in your mouth. I am already googling recipes to see if I can replicate it now that we're home. The crab cakes are also a rare vegan gem where seafood is successfully mimicked without being overly flavored with seaweed or salt. Also, if you stay there, breakfast is included and it is so much better than your average hotel breakfast. There are three options for no charge, and you can upgrade to anything else on the breakfast menu for a fee. But honestly, you don't have to - we ordered the same breakfast every day because it was so delicious. The Tico breakfast, which is a vegan take on the Costa Rican dish Gallo Pinto, where they replace the usual fried egg with avocado and potatoes. The best part of MEHV, though, is the staff. Every single person we dealt with at the hotel was incredible. Marco, who helped us set up the trip, Susanna and David, who planned all our excursions, Mauricio and Kimberly, who were our servers most days at the restaurant, the incredibly attentive front desk team, and Karen, the owner. Honestly, Karen is such a warm and caring person, staying at MEHV felt more like staying with a family friend than anything else, if that friend built a luxury hotel. She came and talked to us every night, and insisted on sending over different dishes for us to try (on the house!) with almost all our meals. She is clearly so proud of this place and the staff, and she should be. When (not if!) we find ourselves back in Guanacaste, I can't imagine us staying anywhere else. Thank you, so much, for making our honeymoon as incredible as it was!

I never thought vegtables could taste so good. The Mother Pizza was one of the better pizzas I've ever had. My wife had the Mother BLT. The mushroom bacon tasted like real bacon. Amazing. Our grandson had the Philly Cheesesteak. Again, it's hard to believe there was no meat involved. Our server, Mauricio, was the best. Beautiful location next to the pool. Highly recommend if you're in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.

My family and I ate lunch at the beautiful Mother Earth Vegan Hotel & Restaurant. Mauricio took care of us, introducing us to amazingly flavored water and mulled drinks. We had the best vegan pizza, bruschetta, and vegan BLT ever. The gluten-free bread was freshly made and superb! The atmosphere in the restaurant next to the beautiful saltwater pool was remarkably calming. We can't wait to go back!

If this hotel isn't rated 5-stars yet, I'm going to rate it 5 stars 10 fold!! The ride to the hotel was a little crazy since the roads need a lot of work, but this hotel is a gem tucked away on a hill. From the time we crossed the threshold into this beauty, the frequency was high! You can smell the sweet flowers upon entering. We were greeted by Pablo and Randall in the check-in area with the smell of essential oils pumping out of the diffuser, along with a beautiful hibiscus lemonade, a fresh damp cold face towel infused with a refreshing lemony scent. It was definitely needed after the 1hr long ride from the airport (Liberia) to the hotel. We were also provided a delicious bruschetta bread topped with hummus, olives, and pico de gallo- Mmm mmm mmm!!! The room was beautiful, but your standard hotel room. The staff here is AMAZING!!!! They really make you feel like royalty here. Karen was in her bag with this hotel, ok! I love the fact that she was there everyday to greet, chat and to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. I loved hearing about her story cultivating the 1st Vegan Hotel in the world!!! She is truly a gem. You can tell she loves people and cares about her business. The beautiful paintings throughout the property were done by her son. The woodwork around the property was done by a friend of hers (even the wood desk in the lobby) who we actually got to meet! Everything is at this hotel is vegan and sustainable, and I mean everything. And to stay true to vegan lifestyle, outside food and drinks are not allowed on the property. Of course, I can't leave a review without talking about the main reason we stayed at this hotel- food! As a vegan, it was very important to stay somewhere ( or near a place) that wasn't just going to offer salad and french fries as a vegan option. Vegans eat so much more than that lol. This place had it all!!! We had complimentary breakfast every morning of our stay, which consisted of your choice between the Tico breakfast (CR traditional), American breakfast, and healthy breakfast. They also gave us dessert before breakfast :) (cupcakes, cinnamon rolls etc. ). We had almost everything on their menu during our stay and let me say they did not disappoint lol. The plant burger, the pizza, the shish kabobs, the sausage omelette, the BLT, the eggplant pasta, tiramisu, ice cream, smoothies....it was all so bomb!!! That oyster mushroom bacon on the BLT and Karen's cookies....chef's kiss... OMG I'm drooling just thinking about it! They also had dinner specials 2 of the nights we were there....Sushi and Paella. Both were out of this world amazing. Vegan sushi that actually tasted like animal sushi.... like what!?!! It was full stop too...came complete with miso soup, spring rolls, and fried banana w/ice cream for dessert. And let me talk about the genius magician of a bartender, Jio (I hope I spelled your name right). Jio is a true liquor extraordinaire! An Alchemist as my friend described him. Jio is going to get you right, ok!!! I mean the drinks were already A1. But let Jio know what type of drinks you like and let him work his magic. I promise you its magic! He will muddle you some fresh fruit juice to blend with the liquor, I've never had anything like it. We just told him what type of mood we were in and told him to give us a "Jio Special"...they were all so good. Once I get my money up, I might have to take Jio from Karen and pay him to be my personal bartender. Sorry Karen Lol. This hotel was so accommodating to everyone, vegan and non-vegan. There's a yoga room that you can use at your leisure or take one of the classes. The saltwater pool is lovely but don't expect to swim laps in it, it's only about 4ft - 5ft deep. The hotel is close to souvenir shops and the beach. They are all within walking distance. Karen outdid herself with this one. And she hired an amazing GM, Marco. You can tell Marco loves what he does. He too made sure we were accommodated in any way. He even had a Sound Journey special (we didn't get a chance to do but I heard it was great), and they had live music a few of those nights. Marco actually asked us if we'd prefer live reggae or live drum music from Congo. I loved that they polled us to give the people what they want! I don't usually do reviews, like ever, but Mother Earth Vegan Hotel deserves this review. Thank you to everyone on staff during our stay that made it the most luxurious, relaxing, welcoming, comfortable, unforgettable experience - Karen, Marco, Pablo, Randall, Jio, Oscar, Kimberly, David and anyone I unintentionally missed. I'm truly thankful. We have already started talking about coming back lol. I recommend this hotel to everyone!!! You will not be disappointed.

We stayed at the 'Mother Earth Vegan Hotel' for a total of three nights. The complex is beautifully designed, the pool area, kitchen, bar and restaurant have been harmoniously integrated. The hotel is very modern and looks well maintained. Our room was very spacious and clean. We also had our own terrace. In addition to a safe, fridge and coffee maker, the rooms are also equipped with a ceiling fan and air conditioning. A wide range of snacks and drinks are available in the minibar at an additional cost. In the room we were greeted by a fruit bowl and a nice postcard. However, the first good impression was marred when we sat in the hotel restaurant in the evening. The prices for the food are not related to the service received. For example, we paid $20 for an appetizer that included six fried cauliflower florets with gravy! The following main course, cannelloni, made from somewhat tough zucchini and eggplant, cost $28. The main reason we came to Tamarindo was to visit the first vegan hotel in Costa Rica. It was also great to have several vegan dishes to choose from. We would have liked to have tried other dishes on the following evenings - but not at these prices! We're happy to pay more for special food, but unfortunately that's not the case here. Rather, one has the impression that more is simply asked for here, because it is vegan. My fellow travelers were also very busy with the floor of the facility, since the stone decor contained coral. I have been assured that these are not real corals - and I can only hope they are not!! The staff Randell and Raphael were very friendly and nice. As vegans, we would of course be happy to recommend the hotel because we think the idea behind it is great and we would like to support something like this. But since the food is of course essential in a vegan hotel, we unfortunately cannot make any recommendations. It's a pity...

Every detail of this beautiful boutique hotel was thoroughly thought through! The owner, Karen, truly cares about each and every guest as well as every detail of your stay. The rooms were immaculate! Designed beautifully and everything was luxurious from the bedding to the snacks to the toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and body wash) to original artwork. Upon arrival we immediately had fresh towels laid out for us, cold water with orange, a welcome drink and a welcome appetizer. Follower by a scrumptious complimentary vegan cookie sent over by Karen. Everything looked like a price of artwork and tasted delicious too! The yoga studio on the third floor has stunning views and is also where you can get an (amazing) massage done or squeeze in a little workout like I did! The best part of all though is the STAFF! Every single employee went above and beyond to cater to our every need with a genuine smile on their faces. Please go experience this place for yourself! *it’s not just for vegans either* anyone can stay here and be blown away!

I stayed at this hotel with friends as part of a sweet 16 birthday celebration. This place was so charming, inviting and catering. The hotel itself is beautiful, rooms nice, spacious and very clean. The hotel environment was so tranquil and serene. The staff was absolutely AMAZING, they catered to all our needs above and beyond. The owner also made it her business to personally welcome us and engage with us, I appreciated her hospitality. I'm not vegan, but I genuinely enjoyed all the meals they prepared. Definitely a top notch experience!

First off and very fundamental to any booking please find out if booking in 2022 if the construction work next door has finished. We were looking for a spiritual and calming stay with yoga and mediation practice but this is not what we experienced. We cut short our 7 nts stay after 4 nts because we woke to the construction noise (7am) and could not use the pool area in peace during the day because of the continued noise throughout the day. Iron being cut, reversing bulldozers, earth being moved all the order of the day and heard very clearly. Exiting the property, we breathed in dust from the digging. Not ideal as we sought some peace after an 11 hour flight and relaxation from busy working life. The construction can be heard from the reception office, to the pool, to the rooms - its loud. When we checked in we also specially told we cannot bring any food or drink in from outside, we have never been told this at any hotel we have stayed at (there is a big sign at the front door). Rooms We did not get the pool view we were after in our 1st room, placed next to the busy kitchen area. Then moved because the safe box buzzer went off (which couldn't be switched off). Water takes 5/10 mins to warm up and then only tepid. Not a hot springs experience. Bedding were clean and tidy, good size bed also access to Netflix/YouTube. Standard expectations in most hotels/resorts these days. Breakfast - Three options only but in my opinion the highlight of our stay. Pura Vida (not here)
