Our stay was all good nothing to really complain about until we came to check out - they want you to strip the sheets and pillows at the end which is pretty normal procedure but upon doing this we found this… black mold all over the pilows we had been sleeping on. This really isn’t safe or cool to be doing in the slightest. I would like a refund for the entirety of our stay.

Mario and Roberto the two Italian managers made me feel very welcome. I was treated as one of the family and that is very important when you are far away from home. Its a very large property built into the side of a hill with lots of greenery which makes for a very natural setting. As with most hostels there is a shared kitchen with three refrigerators and more than ample space for storage. It was like a United Nations of sort with guests from places like Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Brazil, Israel and Great Britain to mention a few. The location couldn't be better really. Although its on a relatively quiet street, you are just a short walk from Playa Langosta and the main drag on Tamarindo Beach. They have the mandatory rentals and surf lessons and are very willing to help you in whatever needs you have. Being senior I was cautioned to go with the private room as all the shared dorms were occupied by the younger generation. The wi-fi was adequate and the quiet and kitchen hours were strictly enforced. All in all I would not hesitate to stay here again. PURA VIDA ROCKS!

Me and my friends stayed here for 5 nights and we won’t be coming back. Our initial introduction to this hostel was hostile and very unwelcoming. Having just finished a tiring 10 hour journey with myself having just lost my phone we were in a slightly agitated state. The receptionist was extremely unhelpful when I asked about the possibility of finding my phone. He then proceeded to insinuate me and my friends were poor when we supposedly complained about the VAT on card payments, which we didn’t , in which he said we should have gone to Mexico it’s got a cheaper VAT. How dare you insult us like that . This lack of respect was a constant theme with all of the staff. Every interaction we had with the staff was unhelpful and rude. My friend lost a nice top in a wash she had done with them and with every right to complain about where it had gone they were almost confrontational as if we out of order to complain. The room situation was also strange with some rooms having air cons and some not yet they were all the same price . I do not recommend.

I had an amazing time here, lovely staff who were very accommodating and all round good vibes. The only reason I dropped a star was because I’m 99% sure I caught Ebola here. Other than that would fully recommend Richie

The hostel is a nice place and has so much potential. Unfortunately the owner is rude and super strict. You cannot stay outside of your room after 11 even if your super quiet, cannot bring anyone inside the hostel from outside even for 2 minutes she will threaten to kick you out all together. Its a shame because the other people working here seem nice but she just ruins the experience. Your better of staying at selinas

Offerdable due during senana santa it was more expensive and busy as expected. We had to change rooms IT went smooth. They could clean IT a bit more but welk IT is a hostel. Good kitchen and private rooms are somewhat great with small kids even. Hammocks and hanging places to sit could be bit more if IT is busy. Pool is good only u need to clean IT yourself. Nice to meet new people and niet only youngsters. People also Stay here for longer time.

This is by far one of the worst hostels you can find in Costa Rica. Starting on a positive note it is the only one in Tamarindo with a female dorm. Beds come with comfy orthopedic mattress of good quality, not usually found in hostels. These two were the only reasons for me to stay there. Unfortunately the dorm literally feels like being in a cage, it has barrels and an iron door. The room itself is crammed with beds, leaving no space for personal belongings nowhere. Typically designed to make the most money, not keeping in mind the comfort of the traveller. At least it does have small lockers. There is fans but not all work, and some make awful noise. Right on the ceiling of the dorm is the social area with billiard & ping pong table. So forget it if you wanna have a rest, only suitable for sleeping at night. Resting hours are from 23 pm onwards, mostly enforced and respected. If you want to sleep & get up early you will definately need earplugs. The bathroom beside the female dorm is very small, nowhere to hang your clothes or towel, so you have to put your stuff on the wc or sink, which are dirty most of the time. The shower needs a thorough scrub, it hasnt been properly cleaned for a while. I recommend use the bathroom upstairs, more space, hangers and overall cleaner. Pool area with sunbeds looks nice, albeit not very clean. I never saw someone swimming there and I didn't feel like going in myself. In general the place lacks maintenance, it's just messy and run down. It could be easily solved though with small touches here and there. People leave stuff around on the tables, floors and chairs, and nobody really cares. I found used men and women underwear in the bathroom, not nice. Also people use to hang their damp clothes in the dorms which smells bad. They don't clean up in the kitchen after themselves and if you need something you have to clean it first. They should put some signs as is common in other hostels, asking to make a more responsible use of the kitchen. It usually works. Cleaning staff is present but can barely manage to make the place look somewhat nice and clean. There is bugs everywhere and a smell like rotten fruits all over the place (maybe due to composting) Staff at reception is hit and miss. The guy is pretty chilled and friendly, so is the girl from Brazil. But the lady that seems to be the owner or person in charge is not particularly nice and lacks emphaty. Checkout is strictly at 10. They will hold your bags in common kitchen until 12 but no longer, and you cannot stay inside the premise after 10, no exception whatsoever. Honestly this policy is just bull***, and not even used in 5* hotels. If you run a backpacker hostel you have to be way more flexible and helpful. Finally location although close to the beach is not ideal. The road is in bad shape, you particularly will notice if it rains as it becomes a muddy slide. The building beside the hostel is currently being renovated. So expect drilling and hammering all day. All in all very basic hostel that could do much better. Not a place I have fond memories of.

I stayed at Pura Vida MINI Hostel for 4 days, I stayed in a private Room. I enjoyed my stance , the location is perfect is not full of cars or crowded. Hostel is super cosy and really beautiful , is space to stay , read, take sunbads , play , there is also a Skate ramps to chill. The staf is great they are always willing to help and they constantly ask you for any advice they can provide. If you want a Surf lesson they have one experienced teacher I toke 1 Surf Class and it was super fun and really safety class for a beginner so if you want take a chance to lear something new, also is really nice there is really good handmade jewerly made by angentinan girl. all the staf have diferent activities and personalities but they are great persons. so people who want to go to Pura Vida MINI Hostel should be able to cross with other extrangers and have a nice and Pura Vida actitud beacuse its a place to meet new people and have a great time. Clean Bedrooms Showers hot and Cold Kitchen Clean pool Comun Areas Close to many things in Tamarindo Great Locatio

A very nice hostel situated close to the beach. Common areas with armchairs, beds and hammocks to sit and relax. A clean common kitchen (however, a toaster doesn't work). We have a nice, big room with a double and a single bed, a safe, a shelf, a fan and two windows. And a shared bathroom. There is no breakfast but you can make a meal in the kitchen. The Internet is good. There is, however, a problem with water, they say there is a shortage. Maybe that's why there is no hot water in the hostel? Or (cold) water just drips when you have a shower and then suddenly stops? We pay 43.000 CRC that is 72$ for two nights in a double room.
