Wyndham Tamarinoften garners praise for its friendly staff and efficient shuttle service, with the infinity pool and ocean views also receiving accolades from guests. While the rooms are celebrated for their comfort and cleanliness, some visitors suggest they could benefit from updates. The hotel's serene location is appreciated, although a few find it somewhat isolated. Opinions on value are divided; some feel the experience justifies the cost, while others are less convinced. Despite occasional comments about breakfast variety and towel replenishment, the overall atmosphere is highly regarded.

Stayed here early February for 2 weeks. I don’t know what the hotel was like before it became part of the Wyndham chain but listening to previous guests I believe it is not quite the same.

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and chose this hotel based on its B&B status as opposed to an all inclusive. Yes it’s a little way out and up a “big”hill but there is a shuttle service every half hour and plenty of taxis when the shuttle has finished for the night. The shuttle was always on time and the driver always cheerful. Taxis cost $5 or 3mil colon one way. We also chose the location away from the noise and knowing there would be no nightly entertainment to disturb us.

All rooms have a sea view with balcony. We had a standard room and can’t complain. Cleanliness was to a high standard, thanks to our lovely room lady who came in every day. The bathroom was a little tight getting around the door to the toilet but had a lovely large shower. The room had a safe and fridge with drinks and snacks which you have to pay for. Was quite expensive but so are a lot of hotels. Possible only gripe would be not enough hangars, but I guess most people tour and don’t stay so long so don’t need many. The water is apparently safe to drink but we bought ours at the local supermarket which was at a fraction of the price.
One issue we found and I don’t know if it is just the standard block or the whole hotel, but when you turned on the taps or shower it makes a loud noise in the bedroom. So much so I was woken up one morning at 0300 when the next room was showering!

The hotel has a large swimming pool which is lovely, but we didn’t really spend time around it as there are no way enough beds for the amount of guests. They also run a shuttle to the Langosta Beach Club but they didn’t really have many more and their pool was tiny and drinks were expensive. We opted in the end to get sun beds on the beach near Witch’s Rock, $20 for 2 beds and umbrella.
We only ate in the restaurant on our arrival night, what we chose was very nice but a bit pricey for what it was.

The big disappointment however of this hotel is its breakfast. Very little choice and some bizarre choices. One morning it seemed like they had lasagne, another nachos! It has to be said when I thought the best choice was the porridge! They are really missing an opportunity here.

The staff were friendly and helpful around the hotel. We also booked several trips with Natives Way who have a little office in the hotel reception (will review separately).

All in all a lovely holiday but probably wouldn’t return to the Wyndham unless it maximised it’s opportunities.

Hotel is placed high on a hill with great views of the ocean. Contemporary design, every room faces the ocean, large infinity edge pool. Rooms are large enough to offer a sitting area, there is a balcony with chairs overlooking the ocean, large sliding doors keep the view unobstructed from anywhere in the room.
Staff is friendly there is a restaurant at the ground floor. Breakfast is decent, have not had dinner there but it is available.
The hotel is isolated, nothing around it. If you just want to relax in the lobby, which is nice, and open to the views or the pool area there are plenty of seating options. Going to the city or restaurants takes a few minutes by car, there is a hotel shuttle running every 20 or 30 min (there is a schedule at the reception) or about 15 to 20 min walk. There are a couple of steep areas on the way and no sidewalk.
For beach access the hotel has a club, if you don't have a car better take the shuttle, it will be a long walk. The club has a fitness room and spa on site, there is a pool and restaurant. Lounge chairs are on the beach (first come first serve), towels are available and you can also rent some equipment for water activities.
Back at the hotel, rooms are not very well isolated. There is a lot of noise from the plumbing. you will definitely hear when your neighbor is taking a shower or flushing the toilet. In addition the door from the room next to us was slamming so hard every time it was used there was a super loud bang and wall was literally shaking. That was my wake-up call every morning around around 7 AM weather I wanted or not.
Overall this is a good hotel, quiet, great views but if you need something close to the city center or the beach, this is not the place for you

Stayed here for 2 weeks at the beginning of January we loved Costa Rica and Tamarindo, the hotel is in a fantastic position overlooking the busy tourist town of Tamarindo. Each room has a sea view, we were particularly lucky as we had the very top furthest north room so had a brilliant sunset view. The beds are very comfy but pillows slightly lumpy.Rooms are kept immaculately clean with a maid service every day. Our shower head wasn't the best as it sprayed randomly but not a real problem. There is an overpriced mini bar in the room which we didn't use. We found the breakfast to be excellent and the main dish was changed everyday with the usual selection of juices, cereal, toast, pancakes, scrambled egg, cold meat, cheese, yogurt etc I don't know why people complain that it's repetitive, let's face it most people have the same breakfast everyday more or less and I thought this represented most peoples diversity, it is a bit cheeky though to charge extra for things like nutella or avocado. The staff were very attentive and welcoming especially Ronald who seemed genuinely happy to greet and talk.
The pool is excellent and although people complain that there isn't enough sunbeds you can see why the hotel doesn't want it cluttered with them as it would make it look like Benidorm, only problem as usual is people toweling the beds then leaving them unattended for hours which is the normal selfish behaviour. Bar expensive £5 can so rarely used.

The Wyndham hotel, Tamarindo, Costa Rica was acceptable and the view from the balcony was a delight however, my wife and I went down to breakfast on our first morning to be confronted with a dismal display of foods on offer at this hotel.
Having been to a Tui 4'T' hotel before ,we were expecting an array meats, cheeses, eggs, breads, fruits, cereals and a selection of hot and cold drinks.
Disappointed is an understatement.
The food was very basic which was repeated daily with little change, choice or options. Scrambled eggs, rice and beans, frankfurter type sausages, take it or leave it.
Presentation was very bad.
No egg station, no bread station, no tomatoes, baked beans, croissants or butter.
Some tables were in need of repair, no table cloths, only paper napkins, shortage of cutlery, hunt for the one and only pepper grinder for a 30 table restaurant .
Melamine bowls for cereals and fruit.
The staff picked up glasses with finger and thumb inside the glass and the same with cups.Flies walking over uncovered food.
Laying table cutlery not using the handles.
Placing dirty trays on top of clean cutlery.
It was no help to us at the time but the management were aware of the problems however after 21 days we found that the hotel failed to make any improvements and until then, I would not recommend this hotel.

They have improved a few things. Service has gotten better at the front desk. But the restaurant changed owners though the menu got better at night the breakfast buffet got very cheap, no more bacon for breakfast, juice is deluted with water, and the service was horrible, the people are not very nice at the breakfast buffet, so much so it turns you off from eating there at night. We finally tried the spa service, good service well priced. They still need to add locks inside the rooms to lock doors when going to sleep. I have noticed they did increase the pricing this saddens me as you can now find cheaper places to stay of higher quality.

Firstly amazing views over tamarindo from any balcony, love the staff, especially Wilmer and Carlos at the pool bar, very entertaining. Tamarindo is a very tourist style place and very expensive, beers are on par with the uk which is amazing as I’m sure it would be cheaper anywhere else in Costa Rica. Food isn’t cheap either and is very limited.so bring some extra cash, lots of trips to enjoy again which we need to in this fantastic country, again on the expensive side. The hotel bar closes quite early (10pm) but at these prices it isn’t a surprise it’s not too busy, even at ‘happy ‘ hour which happens all over tamarindo. We are still in to our first week and this is an amazing place but I feel they are trying to get in to your wallet at every excuse, watch for the ‘Iva’ and service charge on top of your bill (about 23%)
On the plus side the hotel is very amendable and will try to sort all your queries. We have a fantastic rep (TUI) Tony who has been so helpful to date.
The supermarkets are quite reasonable
The hotel provides a shuttle most of the day into tamarindo and the Langosta hotel which is well worth a visit, great facilities and on the beach, great gym...a shame this stops around 8, a bit early as in posted earlier posts. Taxis are available, some dodgy guys but at 5 dollars or 3000 colones is a good way of cutting out the hill.
That said we are looking forward to our next week or so you must try this place out 😉

Do NOT do it. Literally in CR right now and our honeymoon has been ruined. They will likely delete this, but we will be sure to review on other platforms if it helps even one person not have their honeymoon completely ruined. This company booked us at an AWFUL hotel, very dirty, and the “ocean view” is only there if you can look past the mountains of trash outside your window, they will do nothing to help us. Acted like they did us a favor putting us in a king bed room, which is what we should have had in the first place. If you want to eat in their restaurant, be prepared to share your lunch with a swarm of flies. So gross. Pic of how dirty the floors are.

My husband and I stayed here from 1/12-1/17. Everything was great! We arrived late and were able to grab dinner at the hotel. My husband was in love with the ceviche here! He had it twice and would of probably ordered it more if we weren't out on the town.
Fermin checked us in and we saw him multiple times while we were there. He and everyone else at the front desk were helpful and welcoming!
We visited the pool bar almost every day for drinks and sunbathing. Our bartender Raul was great! He made great drinks and was great to conversate with!
There is a daily shuttle that will stop at the beggining of town and the beach club. This was helpful as the hotel is on top of a hill. We did spend almost $50 on taxis ($5 from town) because we were not close to the shuttle stop.. this was mostly cause we were impatient. The shuttle passes every half hour I believe.
The only negative I have is that there was no door in our shower so the water always got everywhere! We put down towels just for them to get soaked.. not sure if all rooms were like this but that is the only negative I have to say.
The staff is fluent in Spanish and English.
Thank you to everyone here for making our first trip to Costa Rica spectacular! Can't wait to come back for more!

Had three nights here, after our last hotel this was a vast improvement. Room was spacious, good air con, comfortable bed and amazing view of the sea from our balcony. The pool was nice, though it was a shame there were so few sun beds. Plus the sun didn’t appear on most beds till about 12ish due to the hotel facing North West. Due to scarcity of the sun beds , some inconsiderate guests placed towels etc on the beds to reserve them for hours I hope the Management will take note and in force a rule to prevent this in future.
Breakfast to me was mediocre, service was slow in evening we decided to eat in, and very expensive. My food was so bad it had to be sent back.
The free shuttle to town was great and used this every day, I wouldn’t recommend the hotel beach club unless you have noisy children or love noisy places we went in there and walked straight out not our sort of place!

We really enjoyed our 2 week stay here. All staff from reception, housekeeping, courtesy bus drivers and waiters were very professional, welcoming and friendly. We are so glad we stayed here as it is peaceful and away from the town but close enough to walk to or catch the hourly courtesy bus.

Our room was spotless, we always had fresh towels and hot water. The bed was really comfortable, having a fridge and coffee maker was a bonus and the water refill in the lobby was a godsend. The safe is a good size.

The sea view from the room was beautiful and it was wonderful to sit on the balcony and watch parrots flying past and many other birds, watching the sunset. Also listening to the Howler monkeys calling at dawn and dusk.

The only negative about the room is that if you are staying for a long period the wardrobe isn’t sufficient for all your clothes, a set of drawers would be useful. Wi-Fi was really good, it worked from our room on floor 7 (and was free). We had a slight issue with our Air Con remote control which was set right as soon as we raised it as a problem. Coming from the UK we have no idea how to work Air Con.

We didn’t use Poole side very often but could always find a bed, we are in our 60’s and did not find the music intrusive as mentioned in some reviews. It was amazing to see Iguanas chilling by the pool too!

We also had a massage at Wyndham which was lovely. Breakfast was ok and we often chose to have breakfast down at the Langosta beach club which Wyndham guests can use free of charge.

Thank you for our lovely stay to all at Wyndham

Jeff and Helen Parker

Hello Brittany, the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service from 7:40 am until 9 pm, which takes guests to the downtown Tamarindo area and the Langosta Beach Club (this club has an arrangement with us, and hotel guests can use their facilities at no extra cost). After 9 pm, you can try to find taxis through Uber, or we can provide you with some trusted taxi phone numbers.
