The team here goes above and beyond to make you feel extra special . Some of the nicest souls I’ve ever met. Greeted from the start with warm smiles and welcome drinks. Delicious breakfast included . Uniquely crafted bungalows. Our group had 4 out of the 8 bungalows on property which made it feel like we had the whole place to ourselves. The staff continuously checked in with us to make sure we had a good time. The perks of staying at a small boutique establishment!! Remember- this is right off the beach and there are bugs and local wildlife, but if you come prepared nothing that disrupts your stay. Pura Vida !

A friend recommended us to stay at the Ocho Artisan Bungalow while in Tamarindo. After some bad experiences with prior accomodations and staff during our trip across Costa Rica, this place was a very nice surprise! Bungalows are very nice, with lovely interior and a lot of great, little amenities (complentary water, coffee, juices, female hygiene products, baby wipes etc.). On top of that, the staff was very nice and attentive. We had a problem with our door lock and they took care of it as soon as possible. We felt very comfortable and well cared during our stay at the Ocho Artisan Bungalow hotel. The only little criticism is that the rooms and the restaurant, where the breakfast is served, could be a cleaner.

There are very few hotels that manage to feel like home after a short stay. Ocho Artisan Bungalows accomplished that practically immediately. The staff, from the manager, Miguel, encompassing everyone who works on the site, including the contractors who were working on upgrades to the property were so kind and friendly that we felt like family almost immediately. The restaurant and bar served delicious cocktails and meals for a very reasonable price. The menu had a large variety and food was always cooked to order. Our room was always cleaned spotlessly. The bed was comfortable, the kitchenette more than adequate and the bathroom had ample hot water for the shower and plenty of quality toiletries. Good hotels provide lodgings as I just described. Excellent hotels provide great lodging with obvious care, attention to small details, and a friendly manner. Every single person working at Ocho Artisan Bungalows enjoys making their guests feel appreciated and at home. It is clear in the manner with which the staff approaches their jobs that it is not only an income for them, but a way of life. This is no act. Everyone's work is accompanied with such a positive attitude and attentive demeanor that comes so naturally it appears effortless. It is not easy to achieve such excellence, and it was obvious to me that the entire team working at this hotel deserves a standing ovation.

I really liked this place…I didn’t read the reviews before I booked and I’m glad because the party scene may have turned me off. There is loud techno music played at the restaurant/ bar Friday-Sunday. It ended up being entertaining and family friendly. It turns in to a club almost. Saturday night there was a really great fire show. Miguel the GM is outstanding…he’s so friendly and treats everyone like his best friend. All of the staff there was excellent. Very good food and I felt very safe tucked away in the bungalows. You can almost miss the place tucked away. Parking is an issue but again the staff was excellent accommodating us. My only suggestion is a little renovation could be done to the bathroom shower. Beds VERY comfy…AC was strong. Very unique place and I would go back.

Overall this place is not horrible...but it comes w/ many disappointments; many of which can be avoided, some cannot, and some depend on your level of tolerance. First, the pics online look amazing...but this place is dingy and rundown. The rooms are outdated, the grout is failing, the wood is old, and the salt/rain of Costa Rica has taken it's toll. Insects get in routinely. At night, carpenter ants took over our bathroom area...so the bungalows themselves are NOT sealed from the environment any longer. Second and worse...we experienced theft. Nothing horrible. My iPad, our passports, and other belongings were left undisturbed, but Costa Rican cash was DEFINITELY taken from the safe...and the safe is a problem unto itself. The combinations don't work so all bungalows are left using a key. Supposedly management states the keys are all different, but that seems suspicious. I discovered theft after suspecting theft, then delving into previous TripAdvisor reviews, and then setting up my own little sting operation. $20 in Costa Rican Colons were absolutely stolen; likely by the housekeeping staff. Lastly, DO NOT use the front-desk staff to book excursions...do the research and book them yourselves. We used the staff to book an ATV Tour which I'm still regretting. It was a "new" company which is not found online. We booked the Tour for $110/person and discovered that instead of being charged for 2 Tours, we've been charged for 6. I've called Ocho Bungalows at least 2x to get some help in rectifying, but to no avail. Ocho has cleaned their hands of us. Overall it was still a memorable trip. The Bungalows are situated in a really nice area. The nightly music never bothered us...even though we're "old" we don't mind nightlife while on vacation. The little pool is great but also falling apart in some areas. The gratis breakfast has no options...they have one plate that comes with the room...anything different costs extra and I'm not a fan of rice and beans for breakfast. This place is certainly not worth the price they charge!

We loved our (3 bedroom) villa and the grounds....they were boho, quirky and beautiful. We also loved the staff....we give Miguel 5 stars! However....the MUSIC! That is why I am giving this resort two stars. They played such loud digital music outside from 4:00 until 9:00 every night. I know music does not sound like a big deal, well it is!! We could not eat dinner there, because we couldn't hear each other. We couldn't enjoy the sunset because rave music was blaring (We had to leave the resort, that we paid A LOT of money for, to watch the sunset). We couldn't even focus on the TV in our villa because the base of the music vibrated the home. My husband and I are in our early 50's; our children are 29 and 19, and we all hated the music. We all agreed the very loud dance music did not fit the vibe of this place at all. I was almost in tears one night because the music was loud and we couldn't sit outside and talk. AND to add insult to injury, there is a club down the beach that played EVEN LOUDER repetitive rave music from about midnight to 3 AM. It was BOOM BOOM in all our bedrooms. We had to put a white-noise app on our phones to sleep. That's ridiculous that we had to put a noise app on our phone at the beach in Costa Rica! With all that said, if you like loud dance music, a party vibe beach, yet a beautiful place to stay, then this place is for you. If you want to relax and enjoy the sounds of the waves in the evening then this is not the place for you. They need to put that they play very loud music at the resort (and there is club playing even louder music) on their website. People should be aware that they are not getting a relaxing vacation, they are getting a party. Overall is was an expensive and disappointing stay at the Ocho. Though I want to thank Miguel and Cata for trying to help w/the music. They were empathetic, but it was out of their control.

We had a lovely time in Tamarindo. The Ocho Bungalows were beautiful in their own way and situated close to the beach with a nice bar and restaurant on-site. If you’re looking for a different type of hotel in Tamarindo we’d recommend “trying” it out. However, it may not be a place you’d want to stay your entire trip, assuming you’re there more than a few days. We stayed at Ocho for 2 weeks and although the majority of the staff were lovely and attentive, we’ll probably will stay elsewhere next year. Please continue to read, as there are a few things, one in particular, that really tainted our overall experience at the Bungalows. The Bungalows themselves are different and beautiful; all wood, beautiful large planked floors and an aesthetically pleasing mix of stone and woodwork throughout the bungalow. But, they need some updating for sure. A few things made our comfort level a bit challenging. The king size bed is dated and the mattress seems relatively old and saggy. The lighting inside the Bungalows is pretty bad. Because they are situated within the jungle yet on the beach (which is a fantastic combination), once you’re inside the Bungalow and even after turning on all the lights, it’s still quite dark. The kitchen light fixture is very low so if you’re taller than 5’3”, you’ll continually hit your head. We preferred to get bumps on our heads from surfing, not our kitchen light fixture. The night music was fantastic but if you’re going with kids just be aware it stays very loud beyond 10pm. There were two women running the front reception area. Ericka was especially lovely, warm, friendly and helpful. Loved her. The most disappointing (and, shocking) experience for us was when we realized (on our second to last day) that $220 went missing from our locked in room safe. In the first few days after arriving, we had taken out $560 and placed it in a bag that was meant to pay our surf instructor at the end of our trip. A different bag was used for our day-to-day expenses. So, at no time did we access the instructor $ until it was time to pay him. When we retrieved the surf instructor money on the second to last day of our trip, it was $220 short. We were absolutely certain that we had placed the $560 exact amount, as we each counted twice prior to putting it in the bag and into the locked safe. Strangely, they don’t provide you with a combination to use the lock, only a key. When we shared this information with the one woman at the reception area, we were told that it, “must not have happened” since, “there’s no master key for the safes”. She then questioned how much money we took out, when we went to the bank, how many bills there were, etc., etc. Basically, searching for an explanation of what we did wrong. It’s pretty hard to believe that a hotel doesn’t have a master key to the in-room safes. Had that not happened, we would have an overall pretty positive experience here.

had a wonderful 1 week stay at Ocho Artisan. Room was perfect for myself and two adult daughters. # 3. Staff is very attentive & friendly. Miguel is a wonderful host and couldn't do enough for us. From booking a sailing day trip to in room massages. There is entertainment at the outdoor beach restaurant every night until 10 and not too loud to go to sleep if you want to. Food is very good but pricey. Place is very safe with security guard and also police patrolling the beach at night. Our room was always kept very clean with daily service. Staff at the desk were always very friendly and accommodating. Place is right in town so you can walk to everything

The staff that work at this resort are lovely and helpful. However, I would not stay here again with kids. There is loud club house music playing from the restaurant from 3pm to midnight. It is not peaceful at all - we could hear and feel it from inside our room. We were expecting a peaceful pura vida few days at the beach and this was not the case. It was hard for our kids to sleep due to the loud house music playing during bed time. If a party scene is your jam, great. This is NOT a relaxing beach hotel for families. I wish this had been advertised on the website as I would not have chosen to take my kids to a hotel that turns into a discotec in the evening. This is advertised as a luxury resort but I would not classify it as this. It’s a little dingy. The outdoor lounge seating has dirty fabric on it. There were ants in our room. The water occasionally stopped working. None of that is a huge deal, but for 500 dollars a night I expected a bit different. Pros: my kids loved the pool. The food at the restaurant was good. Staff was very friendly and lovely. Right on the beach is great. If you’re looking for a rustic spring break trip at a party vibe hotel, this might be a good fit. If you’re looking for a peaceful beach vacation with your family, this is NOT the place.

Families beware, this place is not what it seems. The website pictures of a beautiful and serene setting are not what you get. It’s dated, dirty and dangerous because it caters to a party setting. Drunks dance to incredibly loud house music which after they turn down they slowly turn back up. The music stopped at 2:30am. The window in the picture is missing the top latch making it impossible to lock and it’s easily big enough for someone to get through once they gain access to the shed/lean to which is next to a public parking lot with a bent-in fence that suggested high traffic. The only safe is mounted to a loose board in the same room. The main door lock was loose. And there’s no way to lock the back doors which open onto open air toilets surrounded by a not very high wall. When we told the staff we felt uncomfortable with all these things we were told the owner would meet with us, but never came. The manager said it was another bar that was so loud and he couldn’t control them. Another manager offered a refund and when we finalized our booking for another place, we were told by the owner, Mika, that the refund would be coming. There were other stories we were told and ultimately the other owner Shon blamed us for not knowing it was a heavy party scene and that is the concept of the villas, while also saying he did his best to keep the music down and even complained to the police, so he'll just tell you what he thinks you want to hear even if they're at odds with one another. I mean- was it my fault, or is it really loud? Make up your mind Shon. Meanwhile you'll see numerous reviews here that show this is a pattern for these people. Mika tries to respond, but just calls you a liar and then says "Blessings" which apparently makes it ok to call people liars in her book. Wish I'd looked at the one star review before we booked because that saccharine response definitely screams "I'm inauthentic, don't trust me". So the website is deceptive- it is incredibly loud and party oriented. It should be Adults Only, but that would cut into their profits. It’s a dangerous scenario for kids to be, and there were some pretty hard looking men hanging around the parking lot. It’s also irritating to hear Shon talk about love and understanding while he’s telling you that you should have known better. Families- you’ve been warned. Nirvana Villas was much better, is centrally located, and is private and safe and genuinely cares about your experience.
