Nestled in a hacienda setting, the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen is often described as having a charming, old-style design with a vibrant atmosphere, though the lively flair can sometimes include overpowering loud music. Guests frequently commend the attentive staff and well-maintained facilities, yet some note occasional service inconsistencies and noise disturbances. While the amenities generally garner praise, opinions on value are mixed, with complaints regarding overpriced services and dining experiences that didn't meet expectations.

We stayed here for one day after our journey from manuel antonio. This is a great place to stay if you have an early morning flight the next day from sjo. It's about 10-15 minutes away and the rooms were comfortable!! We stayed in the mountain view room and paid extra for the lounge access. In my opinion the lounge access was worth it because they provide snacks and even breakfast as early as 530am. It's not the best food but it wasnt bad either!

The grounds were really pretty since it was situated in an old coffee plantation. When we went, we still saw red coffee beans on the bushes.

Stay here!!

We stayed with 4 kids (ages 15, 12, 8, 5) in 2 connecting rooms. The hotel grounds are impeccably kept with a vegetable garden, walking trail, the gym was well stocked with new machines and open but needed a reservation (all times were available). The pool was very beautiful and relaxing. The cafe had great coffee and delicious treats. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant twice and everything we ordered was perfect. Employees spoke English and Spanish and were very helpful. We had our covid test, required to reenger the US, in the hotel, quick and painless.

Ample property with a nice pool, lovely grounds including a driving range and on site restaurants. 15 mins from SJO.
There’s a nice bar with sushi dining, good sized rooms with potable water, large screen tv, coffee in room.
Helpful staff, close to Deloitte, Citibank, and other corporate offices. Don’t let the drive through an industrial area concern you. This is an oasis of tourist-ready accommodations with lots of business people and families
We were offered an upgrade to a nicer room that included dinner and breakfast in the “executive lounge” for $100. This seemed reasonable given the $28 pp breakfast. But the Lounge was pretty awful. There are nice sushi and steak options on site that, with the dollar conversion, we’re much better value. The “dinner” was suitable for families; more like a holiday inn offering than a Marriott. We felt a bit cheated by the “deal.”

Room Tip: Avoid the “executive lounge” upgrade. It’s not worth the $100 in meal value at all

I hate to give this hotel only 3 stars because the building and grounds are lovely. However I feel that the staff should’ve been more in tune with things. As a Frequent business traveler, with very high Marriott status, I have a profile on the system which states that I prefer a high floor room away from the elevator. This usually equates to less hallway noise. Upon arrival, I was informed that I was given an upgrade. The room was on the 3rd floor, so I assumed all was good. The hotel only had a few floors so it seemed fine. Turns out the lobby was on the 3rd floor and my room was around the corner. The flooring is all ceramic tile and my room was around the corner from the elevator, and the stairway to the next floor and the hallway to the cafe. Needless to say, for each of the 3 nights I stayed there, hallway noise in the middle of the night was a problem and woke me up repeatedly. While I appreciate the upgrade, i think the hotel should understand the issue with these rooms. If I go back I will insist on a quieter location.

Dear, Twins2tymes, Our property is a Colonial Hacienda in the middle of a coffee plantation with the intention to make our guests feel like they are back in the Costa Rican colonial days, our property has a central garden and beautiful terracotta floors which tend to have more acoustic than a regular city hotel, even though it is part of the architecture I want to apologize for any inconvenience you might have experienced. We hope you choose to stay with us again whenever your travels bring you back to San Jose, CR so that we can provide you with a premium experience that not only meet, but exceed your expectations.

I don't enjoy writing bad reviews, so I'll start with the good. This resort hotel presents itself well upon arrival. The grounds are beautiful and the hotel has a charming old-world style vibe. The beds are comfortable. We enjoyed a delicious and elaborate breakfast buffet on the terrace overlooking the lush grounds the morning of our departure after a one night stay. Other than breakfast, our stay was unsatisfactory to say the least.

We traveled with another couple and had made our reservations separately, 6 months prior, since I was using my Marriott points for our stay. Their website lists complimentary shuttle service from the airport. We called from the airport and were told they did not, but would send a taxi. With so many taxis and other drivers vying for our attention it was impossible to locate a specific taxi, so after waiting and being approached constantly by drivers, we hired our own. When we arrived at the Marriott, the manager immediately approached our travel companions and told them they did not have a room for them. Seriously! The manager made arrangements for them to stay at another Marriott 20 minutes away, but we had an event scheduled and they didn't have time to go there beforehand. We shared our room for them to change and freshen up after a long day of travel. They didn't make it to the other property until late in the evening and then had to return early the next morning to the Hacienda Belen, to meet up with us and our tour driver. Ironically, they got a better night's sleep than us! Our room had to be the worst one in the hotel. It was located on the first floor next to the elevator AND next to the service area. The tile floors amplified the sound of people coming and going past midnight. Then before 6 AM the sound of employees loudly talking, laughing, and banging (pots?) from the service area woke us up. Our room also looked tired and in need of renovations. When I complained in my follow-up survey, I received an email with an apology and offer of additional loyalty points to my Marriott account. It's been several weeks and the points have not been added to my account, which is okay, because if this is how they treat me when I use them, I'll pass.

I regret staying here. It went downhill from the moment I pulled in and the valet gave me an attitude about stopping in front of the hotel to unload and pick up the room key.

Dinner at the Hacienda Kitchen was a better experience. The woman who seated us, Vera, was kind enough to let us switch to a table with a better view, even though it had not been setup and she had to clean it first. The trouble was with the waiter who took over for her. He was slow to take our order, didn’t tell us anything about the menu and when we started ordering, it turned out they didn’t have items we wanted. By the end of dinner he completely disappeared and I had to sit at the table until Vera came to my rescue again and brought me the check. To be fair, the food was good, the room was clean and the grounds are picturesque. Also, the staff in the executive club area were friendly and helpful.

In the morning, the door lock failed and we were locked out of the room. After 30 minutes and four trips to the front desk, someone showed up to let us in but couldn’t do it and had to get help himself. Eventually, they replaced the battery and we got in. The utter lack of urgency to take care of a very basic problem was disappointing, to say the least. Luckily, I am not a frequent Marriott guest and after this experience, never will be.

An excellent hotel. The Spanish-style architecture is warm and inviting. The staff are well-trained, welcoming and accommodating.

Although technically an aiport hotel, it has such a large number of amenities (golf, tennis, a spa, two pools, multiple restaurants), and the grounds are so immaculate and beautiful, that you feel like you're at a resort. There's even a brand new incredibly curated store on the grounds selling everything from authentic souvenirs to fine craftsman furniture.

Most importantly, is the space itself. No matter how many guests were milling about, you could always find a well thought out and comfortable place to relax with a book, play games, have a drink, etc.

One small suggestion: there should be an adults-only pool (the smaller one).

Whether you a need a hotel to fly in or out of the airport, or are looking for a relaxing and beautiful homebase to do activities in and around San José, this hotel is for you.

My husband and I stayed here as part of our wedding anniversary and New Year’s Eve celebration after we returned from a weeklong stay in Jaco beach. When we arrived, we were very impressed by the property but not the hotel staff. The hotel supervisor, Roberto, was rude and very unfriendly. As a titanium elite member, I had already checked in to a king room with a pool view on a concierge level on my mobile app and requested an upgrade which was apparently unavailable because the hotel was booked. Roberto, for whatever reason, ended up switching the room that I already checked into on my mobile app to another room with a garden view. When we spoke to Jackeline, one of the managers, she was very pleasant and apologized. She graciously arranged for us to get our pool view and sent a bottle of champagne with chocolates to our room.

We enjoyed the concierge lounge and the variety of offerings. We booked a great deep tissue couples massage at the spa. We swam in the main pool which was at a great temperature (the adults pool was chilly and neglected). We enjoyed the complimentary tour of the property led by Fernando with a coffee tasting at the end.

The coffee shop and attached souvenir/gift shop was also a great place to to have coffee and get souvenirs. We enjoyed meeting Crist Inman, the shop general manager, who was very friendly and knowledgeable.

We also enjoyed the NYE buffet dinner at the Hacienda, particularly the prime rib. We liked that we were able to view the fireworks from our balcony.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. We recommend all their front desk staff to get regular customer training so loyal Marriott customers like us continue to patronize their brand.

This hacienda hotel has a lot of character and charm with all the modern amenities one could wish for. Our flight into San Jose arrived too late at night to drive down to Manuel Antonio so we booked just one night here. Well, we wished we had 2 nights there so we could have tried the restaurants, bars and spent time at the pool. We had a very nice room with a view of the golf course and mountains. We used the Executive Lounge for breakfast with a surprising amount of choice of eggs, pancakes, smoothies and traditional Costa Rican rice and beans.
We were sad to leave and will definitely stay more than one night next time we fly into San Jose Airport!

We had a late arrival and needed a place near the airport before heading out to La Fortuna the next morning. This hotel was great for our needs. It was clean and near the airport. The sports bar had tasty sodas and good ceviche. The breakfast buffet was also solid, especially the waffles and natural honey. Given our short stay, we didn’t swim but the pool looked good. One suggestion is to have bottled water and slippers in the room upon arrival.
