Fantastic place - our family (kids 1, 5 and 7) had a wonderful time - the kids loved the wildlife and the beaches (especially la Chiquita) - pepo and Sonia were extremely helpful hosts and great with the kids - the casa is great for those wanting more privacy and space - would be back in a heartbeat !

When I arrived yesterday it was raining. The owner, Pepo, seemed a bit dismissive or rushed when I arrived yesterday. I asked about snorkeling for today & he told me someone would call for me this morning. Carolina was cook and server last evening & this evening. She went out of her way to make my dinners and Mojitos just...

Very nice place, in the "jungle". Quiet and in excellent conditions. The attention from the managers and workers was as at home. They permit us a early in and a late out! exactly was we need to recover from a terrible experience in another near "hotel". btw the breakfast is the best I had in a long long time!

This is really the Jungle. Monkeys, toucans, frogs, snakes, the whole enchilada. But the buildings themselves are worth a visit. Everything about this place from the placing of the cabins, just so, in the foliage to give privacy but retain security, to the perfect choice of colors and building materials, to the high end beds and linens, demonstrate Tropical Contemporary...

The moment you step out of your transport at the La Kukula Lodge one is first hit with air that smells of hibiscus and ocean air. As you take a second deep breath because of the fresh new smells you hear the music of the many native birds and may just be greeted by a hummingbird sipping from the gardens....

This is the perfect place to getaway from it all. It is perfectly located in a quiet area just south of Puerto Viejo, close to the beach. We sat on our patio hammocks watching a troop of 10-15 monkeys playing and swinging by our room. There is beautiful, lush vegetation everywhere with birds all around. The staff is incredibly helpful,...

Very natural and cozy lodging. Nice owners and service. Very close to Puerto Viejo and surroundings. Time to come from San Jose by car around 4 hours. Nicest beach is Chiquita which is very close distance walking. You can hear to animals during the night and see a couple of them during the day in the breakfast area. Breakfast was...

We had an awesome holiday here. Probably the only downside is we were too busy. Not enough time to enjoy our location. The staff were really helpful and our dining experiences were great. We would love to go back to Puerto Viejo sometime.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
La Kukula Lodge is situated in Playa Chiquita/ Puerto Viejo, next to Refugio de Vida Silvestre de Gandoca-Manzanillo and Cahuita N.P.Built in 2008, La Kukula Lodge follows the principles of sustainable architecture and only plantation wood (teak) has been used in its construction. With its tropical-contemporary style, the bungalows blend naturally with the wooded surroundings: an ideal location to enjoy the flora and fauna the region has to offer. A simple path system running through the garden links each bungalow, the “rancho-bar” and the swimming pool. There are only 8 rooms available, all are very spacious and airy, with their own deck, fans, bathrooms and hot water from a hybrid solar/electric system. All rooms have fantastic views from private terraces onto the sylvan garden. ... more   less
