This hotel was the 1st of a two centre stay in Costa Rica. The Shawandha Lodge did seem to be what we were looking for; quiet, relaxing, good wildlife, close to a beach and with a pool. We noted that some recent reviews had negatives to do with the staff; dark rooms and road noise, but generally the reviews were...

My husband and I did a weekend getaway and loved our stay at the Shawandah Lodge. Our cabin was very nice and clean, and surrounded by stunning foliage for peace and privacy. Breakfast was delicious each morning and the service from staff was outstanding.

We had a wonderful time relaxing at the Shawanda Lodge. We travelled with kids and grandparents, so we stayed in 2 lodges (9&10) side-by-side tucked into a manicured jungle. They each had great porches with hammocks. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were different and interesting in design, and had the amenities we needed. The staff was incredibly helpful,...

Our travel agent booked us three nights here because it does have a great location and amazing grounds including an ancient tree and a path to the beach. We were glad to be out of the bustle of Puerto Viejo yet near enough to visit too. The staff was super friendly too! The issue was with the room, beds and...

My boyfriend and I recently got back from a 6 night stay at Shawandha Lodge. The bungalows are as secluded as everyone describes - you feel like you're in your own little jungle paradise. You open the door of your bungalow and look out at lush greenery and cannot see anyone around. The architecture of the bungalows as well as...

Not pleased at all. Stayed 3 nights and did not enjoy any of them. We were able to make the best of it and the beach across the street was excellent; but from check in to out the staff was awkward and not helpful most of the time. The howler monkeys make noise from 5am thru all day, which makes...

We stayed 3 nights at the hotel with our 2 children. We had an amazing bungalow with a huge terrace but no hamac ;-) The children loved the salted swimming pool in the evening and we enjoyed cocktails and food at the restaurant. The garden is amazing, and from one bungalow you cannot see the others such the vegetation is...

This hotel has around a dozen cabins scattered around the property. There are several kapok trees, one truly magestic. The gardens have grown wild and simulate a beautiful jungle creating a unique natural environment and adding to the privacy of the cabins. They are made of wood and somewhat dark inside. The bathroom is large and decorated with artistic ceramic...

Romantic; private; clean; best food in town. Lovely owner and workers. We will definitely stay there again. The bungalows are beautiful and surrounded by trees, so it felt like my partner and I were sleeping alone in the jungle. The workers are attentive and friendly. We tried many restaurants in town, but kept eating at the hotel, because the service...

The hotel was great. The front desk staff and waiters were amazing (RJ and Roberto!). We were taken care of above and beyond. The grounds are beautiful and well cared for and the bungalows were amazing. The bungalow was much bigger than expected and even though it didn't have A/C, the fan was usually enough to make it comfortable.
