Thought we were in a Jungle retreat. This is our 3rd place we stayed in on our trip and it just gets better and better. Our walk to our cabin was just a little adventure. But the monkeys we saw across the road near the...More
My husband and I loved Shawandha! The bungalows are amazing and the set up with the bathroom winding down behind the living area is great. Also, the front porch is a wonderful place to relax and view butterflies, toucans, etc. The breakfast is top notch...More
The location and the idea of this place are fascinating (it's properly 'in the jungle'), but we felt that the line between 'natural' and ' a bit scruffy' wasn't ideal..... The bungalows are big and spacious, but they're also pretty rough around the edges. The...More
We had the pleasure of staying at Shawandha the rooms were excellent. But more over the food there was unsurpassed. The quality of their French food, rivaled the finer resturants in France.
The propriator of this establishment, really knows how fine food should taste.
This was my third visit to Shawandah since 2004. Each and every visit has been amazing. A year before this trip I kept telling my wife that my dream for my 40th was going to Shawandah and having dinner at the nearby Italian restaurant La...More

About 500 meters, there is a walking path right across the street thru trees
Sometimes you will find monkeys or macaws flying over.

How reliable is the wife there? Is the pubic area loud? Can one be able to have a decent phone conversation in public are or will there just be too much jungle noise in the background? Is there a safe in the room or a way to have my personal belongings (s.a passport) kept with someone in front desk while I am out and about? Thanks

Hi! I was there last week and I can tell you the reception area is more or less empty and definately quiet,I made a whats app call to my dad in the UK and could hear him clearly with no cutting out issues,There is wifi in the rooms but i would recommend going to the reception area to make a call. There are lots of jungle sounds at niht, but mainly chirping! hard to explain. There IS a safety deposit box in the room, enjoy your stay ,you wont be disappointed! if you can eat in the restaurant as well. There is not much open outside of the hotel unless you drive up to Puerto Viejo.
