This was the first stop out of San Jose on our trip. It felt like being in a different world. A totally idyllic location only 15 minutes away from the village on foot. Absolutely loved the boat trip through the canals to get there. The staff were attentive. The rooms are basic but clean and the bed was exceptionally comfortable....

If you want to get lost in the rainforest, go here. All around you life is brimming over with monkeys, sloths, frogs, lizards, iguanas, parrots, toucans and countless varieties of birds, and thats just the view from your room's veranda. The guides there point out more wildlife than you could possibly have seen alone. This makes going on guided tours...

Although the bungalows are quite basic (there is no glass at the windows, only mosquito nets), the entire setting of the resort is amazing. There are sloths, iguanas, birds, butterflies, frogs (including the red-ey tree frog, blue jeans frog) you can see at the lodge. Our daughters were fascinated. Location is very good, right between the laguna and the sea....

Friendly staff and good guides. On boat tours you're in open boats - bring rainclothes. You can expect to see some wildlife, binoculars are a must. Rooms are standard, no tv, fridge or wifi - except in reception/lounge. Food was fine, the restaurant is open so appropriate attire needed if windy/cold. Placement is beautiful. River on one side, ocean on...

We staten two nights in the lodge. Simple and clean rooms , a bit of more reading light would hade been nice, hot water in the shower. They have their own gardens, with flowers, butterflies, snakes and frogs, very well kept . Good sustainability policy, produced their own gas for cooking We had booked through Ecole travel and had a...

The whole operation getting to and from Mawamba is very slick. The pick up from San Jose with a breakfast stop and lunch on the way back, is well organised. Mawamba lodge is lovely. There is wildlife all around. No need for wifi or tv in your room when you can look out from your veranda and spot beautiful birds,...

Enjoyed the boat trip to the lodge - very scenic and pleasant with the opportunity to see wildlife but bus ride from San Jose was ok-ish although breakfast at Rio Dante was very tasty after such an early start. Greeted with fruit punch and shown to room. Our room was on the ocean side so we could hear the waves...

Lodge has clean and comfortable cabins situated around a beautiful garden, with many different trees and animals to be seen. Good restaurant & bar area and pool. Easy walk to the village of Tortuguero and the beach, where turtles could be seen. Several optional excursions available, the best one being the night walk - many creatures to be seen and...

What a brilliant place - from the fantastic boat ride to the lodge, stopping on the way to look at some of the varied bird life, to the beautifully maintained garden and frog ponds. The service was excellent and always happy to help out, and to help correct my v limited Spanish. The rooms were basic but v comfortable (why...

Nice lodge. I liked it a lot but missed something to fall in love with it. May be lack of authenticity or specific attention or unique experience. It is more dedicated for Groups than for couples or family.
