Just came back from spending 4 nights in Mawamba Lodge at Tortuguero, Costa Rica. Most people only stay 2-3 nights but I really like to get the feel of a place with no hurrries, I like exploring and discovering stuff on my own and this was a great spot to do so. Tortuguero is a magical water world, often referred...

The Mawamba lodge is in a great location for visiting Tortuguero National Park and the small town of Tortuguero. It's on a strip of land between the river and the beach, and the lodge has its own boat dock. The main reason to go to Tortuguero is to see wildlife. Turtles nest on the beach there around July, in the...

It took 5 hours by coach and over an hour by boat to get to this place - but it was well worth it. Being collected by the Mawamba staff at 6.15 at our San Jose hotel meant the journey involved a stop off at Guapales in the Rio Danta restaurant, owned by Mawamba lodge. A very nice breakfast too...

You can't top nature and this is a great place to view an amazing variety of wildlife from the water. We had a very knowledgable guide in Peiro. The staff were friendly. The food was buffet style and tasty and fresh. I have so many pictures of birds monkeys sloths turtles and otters but don't believe me go and see...

The staff are really friendly and the cocktails in the bar are amazing - which is helpful as we spent most of the time sheltering from the rain, which obviously wasn't their fault but it did mean I don't think we saw this place at its best. The Caribbean side is nice to walk down and they have a good...

Tortuguero is one of my favorite places in Costa Rica, and Mawamba Lodge did not disappoint. It was a beautifully kept garden of delight, with wonderful plants, birds, and wildlife. The huge iguanas would cross our paths on the sidewalks, sloths peeking out from up in the trees, and birds flitting here and there. I spent my days taking hundreds...

This is a perfect location - boat transfer takes 1 hour after a bus ride - remote. Cabins are good and clean. Plenty to see in the grounds (lots of birds, iguanas, a couple of Sloths :-). Butterfly gardens were beautiful. Brilliant guides and plenty to see around the area. Can only swim in the pool due to the natural...

Dear CraighallMK, One of the greatest things about Mawamba Lodge is being in the heartland of this amazing Rainforest, while having direct access to the River and on the other side, to the Ocean. It is indeed not a suitable ocean to swim due to the tides and sea species, but it is delightful to walk, feel the ocean breeze,...

We stayed her for 2 nights as the first part of our journey in Costa Rica On arrival by boat we were given a drink and a room number. We took our own luggage to the room. Our room backed onto the beach area and at night you could hear the Caribbean sea which was lovely and it blocked any...

The journey from San Jose to the lodge is long but the 2 hour boat journey is a real pleasure after the bumpy coach trip. Basic rooms but more than adequate for our 2 night stays D the balcony was a plus. We would highly recommend the rips through the canals as there is so much to see and the...
