Tortuguerro National Park is a superb nature reserve, accessible only by boat, and home to a wonderful diversity of Costa Rican wildlife. The Laguna Lodge is located on a narrow strip of land between the ocean to the east and the forest waterways to the west. Howler monkies and iguanas, as well as an enormous variety of birds, share the...

I stayed here with a tour group. We arrived by boat - a lovely journey through the canals and first chance to spot the wonderful wildlife in the area. A refreshing welcome drink the the snail shaped reception. The room was good sized, as was the bathroom- (hot water).Luckily it didn't get to hot at night as the small fan...

Took us an hour and a half boat ride on the river to get there, we were advised to pack enough for two nights and leave other items on the coach, so I had a overnight bag I took, due to the river being so shallow, extra weight might have meant the boat would bottom out. This lodge we were...

We stayed in the lodge on the island of Tortuguero for two nights while on a tour. The lodge is nicely located between the river on one side and the Caribbean on the other. It is a large resort with two pools. Luckily for us it was not very busy. The rooms are very basic – two beds, a bathroom...

This location was really wonderful! Part of the adventure is arriving via river boat, so fun and interesting. Bring your binoculars and camera - there tropical birds, wildlife and flowers everywhere. Visit the sea turtle center in the village near here - there are also volunteer opportunities - and the turtles lay their eggs on the beach not far from...

I can only endorse other views on this site. This hotel is ideally located within the Tortuguero park. Don't worry about the boat trip there as it is part of the experience and we spotted crocodiles on both journeys. On the other boat trips you will see a wide selection of birds (43) according to an expert in our group,...

This remote lodge is very nice, rustic, basic, clean. The restaurant has good local food and excellent fish served buffet style. I felt like I was at summer camp as a kid !! Wake up (early) to jungle sounds of birds and monkeys. Rustic room had no A/C but had a ceiling fan and was fine for sleeping. Lodge has...

A very quaint and lovely village. Nice pool areas and dining facilities. I'd strongly recommend flying it - rather than the bus/boat trip from San Jose. I think 3 days there would be a bit much - but 2 days is ideal to see and do everything. Be warned: don't drink the tap water (there's plenty of purified water supplied)...

We stayed here 2 nights as part of a tour. I wasn't expecting much & boy was I wrong. I had read there was a possiblility of no hot water & no a/c so I was a bit worried. Well, the water was hot everytime we needed it & their was a ceiling fan which circullated the air well. The...
