We booked the standard double room and it was as advertised. The room had lots of space with shelving/storage and a beautiful bathroom. The property has a massive pool, restaurant, lounge areas, gym, and private parking. The buffet breakfast was good, but if you got there too late it seemed you were out of luck - we didn't witness any refreshing of options.
Very helpfull at the reception , you can go to the Duty Free , take care of the shoping list and come Back to enjoy the hotel! Too many pictures at the hotel and room, this is nice and at the dame time it can take too much of you time
Im really unsure about some of the other reviews on here as we had a perfectly lovely stay. Here is the deal, Golfito is a tiny town. Most of the hotels are older and the home vacation rental websites are sparse. Casa Roland is a little on the older side, but we had a great stay. Excellent staff. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly. They accepted our small dog with a fee, which was so needed and appreciated on our part. The room was adequate. Yes, they are a bit dated - but - the room was very clean, had a TV, and wifi. They also had a dehumidifier and great A/C. They also have private, off street parking. They are located very close to the duty free zone, which was the purpose of our trip. You could technically walk if it were a sunny day and you were a bit adventurous. Its also walking distance to Air Sansa if you are flying in. Normally we do not like hotel food, but out of sheer shopping exhaustion we had dinner at the hotel. GREAT pizza and snacks. Everyone’s food around us also looked really good. Excellent service in the restaurant. Also had a really good complimentary breakfast. Some of the best gallo pinto! The staff was super flexible and friendly when we needed a later check out. They have a great policy for that. We would totally stay again simply based on location and restaurant. Here is the deal, if you are from the U.S. you must remember that Costa Rica does not have large scale chain hotels outside of the capital city, and that is the joy and beauty of the country. We would totally recommend Casa Roland to anyone.…
Arrived at hotel after long drive out to Golfito peninsula. Lobby was dark, desolate and un air-conditioned despite 83 degree weather. We asked to see the room and were taken to a “junior suite” with extremely dated furniture, a view over a parking lot, hot as the outside just like the lobby with an unplugged refrigerator precariously balanced on a little stand, which fell over when I tried to open the refrigerator door. The room smelled of old mildew. We came back to the front desk and the desk clerk, a very nice woman, nodded with evident understanding. She had been through this exercise with many previous guests. She volunteered that she knew the hotel website and booking.com pictures of the hotel and rooms were misleading, said she had reported this to hotel owners several times, but nothing had been done to correct the misrepresentation. For around a half hour, the clerk showed us additional rooms, of increasing supposed “opulence”, trying to convince us to stay. The final room she showed us was the so-called “Presidential Suite” – but all of them were as dated, smelly and hot as the first room. The clerk told us that the hotel was almost entirely empty. She apologized for the misleading pictures and, after consulting with the owner, offered us a 10% discount at the hotel and any accompanying meals, if we agreed to stay in the “Presidential Suite” – (at our original “junior-suite” price minus the 10% discount). We explained that this was our one week of vacation during the year and didn’t want to spend it in such a dreary and low quality environment. She apologized repeatedly and agreed to a full refund. We sat in the lobby for another half hour looking for alternative accommodations. The best we could find was 2.5 hours’ drive, as dusk approached, on a winding two-lane road with no shoulders through a rain forest. When we arrived at the new hotel, we decided to take the precaution of contacting Booking.com and asking for a refund. Despite the nice desk clerk’s assurance of a refund, the hotel refused our request. My guess is, this is a scenario that has played itself out many times before at this hotel. Many guests were probably lulled by the false assurance of the desk clerk that a refund was forthcoming, and neglected to initiate a refund process with Booking.com in time. This hotel is clearly and intentionally misleading guests with decades-old and/or photoshopped photographs, and attempting to make a living off of booking.com’s no-refund path. Steer clear.…
The hotel is a relic from the 60's? You could tell it must have been really something in the day. I also suspect that the pandemic has taken it's toll on the hotel. Good things: great bird action while sitting at the pool, beds are good, rooms clean. best shower in Costa Rica/hot and good pressure, great breakfast, Bad: over priced, needs maintenance, public pool, service at pool and restaurant non existent/horrible, no views in the room, dogs barking in room at night in rooms next door, safe was broken, very small TV and only CNN in English, our friends room had a broken phone.
We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The food at the restaurant is not the best. They served me burned eggs that was not possible to eat. On Saturday night, they had a big party that ended up after 12 midnight. Our room was in front of were they organized the party, so we could sleep due to the big noise. They allowed the people assisting to that party to park in the hotel's parking spaces, so we had to park our car in the street. For a hotel to be supposed to be one of the best in the area, the experience compared to staying in a $20/night cabina.
We have been to more than 30 hotels in Costa Rica, the Casa Roland was the worst hotel we ever seen in this beautiful country. The woman at the reception was very unkind and shows no interest for guests. Room was dark but clean, bathroom was old and 1 star standard. The bed was okay. You have to cross the road to get to the pool area, which is loud and busy. It’s a public pool and seems that people visit the hotel only because their shopping tours. The food at the restaurant ( we had pasta) was bad and the breakfast was really bad. The city of Golfito is very old and ugly, we don’t recommend to visit it. Also the hotel is on the Same Standard, really bad! We will never come back !
First of all the hotel and restaurant are gorgeous. The hotel is a bit of a maze as it is hard to find exits signs..if any. The exhaust fan in the bathroom did not work. At the restaurant that night I ordered A Dirty Martini. The glass was barely over half full but paid full price. The food was good. Now for the breakfast. I asked our waiter the night before if I could be served coffee before 7 am. He said I could get some at 6:30. When we arrived at 6:40 the server said no. We told her we told we could. She said "who told you that" we responded "our waiter the night before" We then asked was the coffee ready and she said yes. She appeared reluctant but brought the coffee. Some time after 7 no one came to our table so we flagged down a waiter and asked for service. My partner asked if they could make pancakes. They said it would be ready in 10 minutes. After seeing others come in after us and getting their breakfast we asked where ours was. She went into the kitchen and after 40 minutes we received our breakfast. We asked what took so long and she said the had to make it from scratch. We told her that had we been told 40 minutes rather than 10 we would not have ordered them. She over promised and under delivered. Not one time after receiving our meal did she check on us. Because of this experience we will never go back or recommend your place...When I approached the server she was with a group of 4 others she did not even look at me so I checked out with the cashier. My advice, fire the entire wait staff and hire those who value their customer. She could have told us of the delay instead of "sorry'.…
Very nice hotel, small but cosy. Great rooms, clean and comfortable. Amazing pool and good looking facilities according to town history. Breakfast included but is not varied, few options available. Overall I recommend as the best hotel in Golfito Area
The accommodations were lovely and comfortable. The front desk service was attentive, accomadating and friendly. I loved the local art lining the hallways. A nice respite from driving and appointments. The pool was clean, attractive and large enough to swim laps. The restaurant service was good, the food was mediocre, but not overpriced. I went for dinner at 6:30 ish. There were 2 middle aged couples and myself. No other customers in the pool or bar restaurant area. The music was very loud, disco lights, etc. No one was dancing, just straining to hear each other. It was not conducive to a relaxing enjoyable dinner. I love to dance, but it was not the right time or crowd for the music and lights. I will stay here again, requesting a room away from the restaurant area, and dine elsewhere. Wish they could read their clientele and respond appropriately. I rarely review negatively, but the place is very classy except for the forced disco scene. The music is audible from my lovely room at 10 pm ( Just when the party starts in Central America). I have to awake at 5:30 am. Ughh!…
