Stayed for the 2nd time at La Purruja Lodge. It was another great stay, Only able to stay one night but the room was comfortable and grounds are beautiful. Breakfast was very good. As in our 1st stay we saw @ 40 squirrel monkeys feeding within mere meters. Host were very nice. La Purruja Lodge is a great place to stay for birds and monkeys.
Went here more because it's not located in town, looking for a place that had some birds n animals for our parents. Lodge is pretty basic but no matter to us. Squirrel Monkeys everywhere and parents loved them. I liked the spring fed pool, a tad dirty with leaves that could be taken out but refreshing. Walter is a good host. Room basic, ceiling fan and screened windows, should be cool enough to sleep. Internet connection was adequate. Wife n Mom did not like the no hot water shower though. OK saw that on web site so no surprise and refreshing for me. Sleeping, my biggest issue was the truck noise on the nearby road and the dogs barking. Can't do too much about either but annoying! Looking for a nice quiet place to enjoy nature. Fair price so can't complain too much Breakfast was a tad sparse for 6$…
The owner is really really really Nice. We Had an amazing stay here. We have camp in this huge and really well maintained garden and we have also taken cabins. Both were really great. We have seen some Tucans in the garden, many other birds, the swimming pool is perfect, there is nice place to cook with some hammocks and a pool game. A perfect place to stay for one night, one week, one month ^^
Stayed in Golfito one night before Puerto Jimenez. This Eco lodge was so beautiful..family ran by the most friendliest people. We arrived at 7am..due to a super early flight from San Jose. When we arrived so early there were no problems to let us check in.The tour guide Joe that stays at the lodge was up when we arrived. He informed us of the amazing boat tour he could provide us with on our stay. When we told him it would have to be that day he said no problem. He organized a tour for us and 2 other people staying there in an hour.By 10am we were on a boat cruising threw the mangroves.Joe's knowledge and good eye for nature and history made this an amazing day!! Then to return to the lodge with all the wildlife and serenity..the symphony of sounds put me to sleep. This is a very special place.Especially for the low cost.I recommend this beautiful place to anyone staying in Golfito!!…
Very nice room and facilities for the money, beautiful garden for realxing and admiring the local wildlife. Helpful owners - among other things they informed me that if I had a Tracopa bus ticket to San Jose or elsewhere, that I could use it to ride the local bus into Golfito for free.
As we arrived Walter (the owner) came out to greet us. As noted in another review the check-in was informal. His garden like grounds and our room were immaculate! It's obvious he cares very much about his lodge. We were shown around the property and noticed wildlife everywhere. There was a beautiful pool in a secluded area, as well as a pool table and BBQ for his guests. Walter recommended a small restaurant directly across the road from the lodge which had a great menu as well as a delightful proprietor. Not in town proper, but quiet and worth three times what he charges. We'll be back for another visit.
The vibe of this place is slightly odd. Our interactions with the innkeepers were a bit awkward, with no real check-in process and the final bill discussed in round figures. The central gazebo has a pool table, which is fun, but the swimming pool has been emptied of water. We stayed in the hostel room with our family of four. The room itself was clean, but lacked pretty much everything but bunkbeds -- no chairs, table or wastebasket. There is an industrial sink outside, but the mosquitos made it difficult to brush our teeth. We knew that the bathroom was in a separate building, but we were surprised that it was up a hill and that the light didn't work. The onsite manager was kind enough to loan us a flashlight and a fan, and made a point of asking for them back right before we left, since they were his personal property. The hostel room itself is built at one end of the gardening shed, so there was noise when the gardener got started with his work each morning. The breakfast was fine, but included only coffee, toast and eggs, so not worth the $6 price. We were surprised when we checked out that they only accepted cash. It seems like some of the other cabanas were nicer, but staying in the hostel room was a largely negative experience.…
the rooms was nice, and clean. the grounds are meticulously maintained and it shows. they have a nice pool to cool off in and a nice shaded area to eat breakfast. lots of wildlife around (especially birds) and a fantastic restaurant right across the street about 100m up the road. i suggest going there to eat.
Located in a beautiful property where Toucans are all around, Blue Morphos flying and Squirel Monkeys jumping on the trees. The cabins are super clean, the bed is comfortable and the swimming pool is refreshing, fun and natural. We didnt met Walter but Rosi was so nice that I wish we could stay another night. Drinking coffee at the morning while listening to the nature in this lodge became one of our favourits mornings of the trip. Shani & Liza
CAUTION, CASH ONLY, NO CREDIT CARDS Even when booking online via third party websites. Basics: Filthy rooms, no hot water INSTALLED, LESS than half a roll of toilet paper in bathroom. Sleep quality: - Rooster woke us up just after midnight, it finally stopped around 6 AM - Very loud diesel trucks passing by during the night all using their "jake brake" (engine brake) - Sagging mattresses. The positive: The grounds are meticulously kept. However there was no water in the pool (except rain water). The light in the room and bathroom is very dim so it it hard to determine how clean it is, but I have attached a photo of the light switch in the bathroom and the ceiling fan. I used a flash to get the details. Will never stay here again. We relied on the 13 other reviews that were all VERY positive.…
