My husband and I just stayed at Mar y Luna on a recommendation from a friend who frequents Golfito often for fishing trips. We stayed in room 14 which is very large with a kitchen. There is a swing out front with wonderful views. The staff was so nice and accommodating and we felt very welcome. After a 10 day of fishing the chef prepared our catch of the day... red snapper. The food and drinks here are excellent. The bar staff was also great despite our language barrier! We will definitely be back! The only thing we didn’t know about was the shopping deals in town! We found out after we returned to San Jose before flying back to Florida that there are exceptional shopping deals in Golfito! Next time!

My wife and I just returned from Golfito and We stayed at Mar y Luna for a 5 nights, the good: excellent food, free kayak, great view, great cabinas.
The bad: no beach near in golfito, at least not one near.
It was great being able to wake up and jump on a kayak on the tranquil gulf, also, make sure to go across the gulf and enjoy the bar/restaurants on cacao beach. They will Pick you up and bring you back on a boat for FREE! As long as you consume. Great ride and even better view, you cannot miss it. All in all, it was a great stay, Cheers to Daniel, Lili and Mauricio at Mar y Luna, they treated us like kings. I fell in love with this place, hope I go back soon.

I booked this place for one night and ended up staying three. The staff was very pleasant and helpful and most spoke English. I also ate at the restaurant and I definitely have to say the food was the best in town as well. I have stayed in many hotels in Golfito and this has the best "vacation" feel for the area. It is waterfront - the rooms are nice and clean (I stayed in a junior suite with kitchenette - room 14 - LOVED the view from that room!) I decided to give the place five stars for the Golfito area - as it hit ALL the things I wanted (and like I said - other places I have stayed in Golfito came up short on the "vacation" feel or the food or lack of food etc) its not a "big city" five star place - but its definitely five star for this area! I came alone (I needed to do some writing) and felt VERY safe there. Security is great, fenced in parking area and hotel area etc. I would recommend this place for singles, couples or families! The service from the staff is by far the best in the area as well!

We have stayed here several times. Our favorite room, is RM 11 which is a suite with kitchen. Two double beds, a nice bathroom, and a deck out the door to enjoy the water views and sunset. Rooms are clean, the AC is cold, and a very good value.
Breakfast is included, but very simple. Go down the street to Banana Bay Marina for the best breakfast in Golfito.

We like to stay at Mar y Luna on a regular basis - it's a happening little laid back hotel right on the water in Golfito. The ambiance has local flare, and there are always lots of folks milling around and enjoying the fresh seafood, cold beer and good company at the restaurant. If you have a chance to take the kayaks out and go for a paddle across the harbor, there is some good wildlife and forest right across from Mar y Luna. If you see the fishermen come in with fresh tuna, definitely request it for dinner! Same with the whole fried fish, yum! Overall, its an enjoyable spot to pass the time, connect with friends while in Golfito, and enjoy a sunset over the water. There is usually live music on the weekends too, which is mellow and not at all too loud for hotel guests.

We were happy with our experience here. We stayed in one of the basic rooms. It was clean with a hot shower. It was nice that there were sitting areas in front of each room on the patio to have a coffee. The food is really good and the portions are big, you don't walk away hungry! We weren't impressed with the service in the restaurant at lunch time but at dinner time it was fine. We didn't know breakfast was included so that was a bonus! We would stay here again but probably go somewhere else for lunch.

Went with my wife, for business, (shopping) for only one night. Offered us an upgrade for less than $8 and we took it. It was a very comfortable, equipped room, facing the Golfo Dulce. It was very pleasant just to be there, in the room watching the view (with or without rain :-) Pity they only have one room #14 because that one is the best. Some minor detail of maintenance were visible but not affected our comfort. The staff had a great attitude. Wouldn’t spent time looking for another place. Would return there.

We had to buy few things at the Deposito de Golfito (free trade zone where costaricans can buy with tax exemption) and needed a family safe place...this is it. The place is very safe, the rooms are small but just enough for us, everything is clean, staff is kind and we felt welcomed. I highly recommend the hotel/cabins. They have an awesome restaurant (seafood is delicious) and a safe parking lot. The view from place is beautiful. We will.definetly come back again!
