I stayed at Hotel Las Gaviotas for one night in April. The hotel is located at the entrance of Golfito directly on the shore of Golfo Dulce. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, however there is no beach, just a pool (very nice) and a pier for fishing-boats. My room was quite large, tastefully decorated with high ceilings...two double beds, flat-screen-tv, refrigerator, safe-deposit box and pleasantly silent A/C. The bathroom was spaceous too with good water pressure in the shower. The hotel restaurant offers ok food at reasonable prices. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Still I was glad to leave after one day, because the town of Golfito is a disappointment. It is basically one noisy street with mostly businesses on either side. Other than fishing it has nothing to offer for tourists. There is a tax-free shopping center...but the shops offer mostly home appliances.

Have stayed 3 times. Locally owned, great view and helpful staff. Great dining on patio by the pool.

Not for hyper types. Every thing is laid back as it should be.

We ended up here on a Saturday evening and cheaper options were all full (weekend busy for the famous duty free shopping fest at the Deposito in town). The last 'bungalow' was $160 for the two of us. Strong smell of disinfectant, which did not deter the kitchen cockroach colony. Spacious if spartan. A roomy enough inside social area and cute front porch but nary a chair to sit on! Just a hard wood bench at the 'eating' table (hardly dining) and a hard wood chair by another table. The bed was comfortable; the bathroom was clean enough but needs updating and repairing. Breakfast was not inspiring and my 'tipico' rice 'n' beans with dried-out fried eggs is one of the worst I've had, the coffee was lukewarm.
Nice enough people, over-priced, and seriously needs to renovate. There is now competition in Golfito!

Located in the beautiful setting of Gulfo Dulce, right at the beginning of Golfito, this a bit pretentious and a bit run down hotel or motel.
Rooms are spacious overlooking the garden and the peaceful bay
The pool could be magnificent but was not well entertained.
Security is questionable.

If you are looking for a quiet, well kept, out of the way place to stay in Golfito, this is the place. It is very affordable, has spacious and clean rooms, friendly staff, and the views of the garden and gulf are simply beautiful. I particularly love this Pacific Sur area of Costa Rica as there are very few tourists here, so one gets an opportunity to totally enjoy the Costa Rican people going about their daily routines. The locals are open and friendly and aim to please. I felt comfortable, happy, safe, and secure at this location and have returned more than once! As a serious swimmer, I found the size and shape of the pool perfect for morning and afternoon laps. It also is situated overlooking the gulf, so the view is serene and beautiful. The grounds are kept very well, and I particularly love seeing the orchids in bloom everywhere.

What an unbelievably fantastic experience! The serenity, peacefulness, gorgeous landscaping and surrounding beauty are just the beginning of this excellent hotel and resort. The friendly, helpful, staff (including wait staff, reception personnel, bartenders, landscape crews, maintenance personnel, and anyone else we came across) went out of their way to make us feel at home, and provide us with everything we needed and more. The restaurant is poolside and overlooks the Bay, and has exquisite food. Their Carpaccio and Ceviche are absolutely delectable, and their seafood dishes are fresh, with a definite homemade flair. They take their time to prepare everything with the freshest ingredients, and it does not disappoint in th least. (WOW!) When traveling to Golfito, don't miss the comfort, beauty, and stress free peacefulness of Las Gaviotas!

Pros
- Very clean and comfortable rooms.
- The gardens in front of the rooms give them a fresh and peaceful feeling.
- The pool is not so big, but enough to stay there for a while.
- The view is great.
- The rates are good

Cons
- There is no beach to walk or swim.
- The restaurant service is awful. They took half an hour to serve lunch and an hour to serve dinner. We complained with the friot desk and the manager, and even though they have received similar complaints, they haven´t done anything about it.

I recommend to stay in this hotel, but if you are hungry, you´ll need to find another place to eat.

Las Gaviotas was right on the ocean. It had a large open air restaurant and bar that looked out across the pool and then the ocean. Even though it was during the Christmas holidays the place was very quiet and we didn't see hardly any other guests. It is on the south side of town and you would need a car there. We took a look at a couple of the other Golfito hotels listed on this site and we were glad we chose this hotel. The grounds, pool and eating area are spectacular. The rooms were decent although a mini fridge or something would have been nice. The hotel was an excellent price for what you got. The owners are a family and had the TV on loudly in the lobby much of the time. We finally asked them to turn it down and they did. No one speaks much english. The restaurant menu looks limited and almost American but the food was great. For $5 we had squid and clam ceviche and fresh baked buns. PS This is not near Playa Tortuga, that is a mistake.

The rooms are clean with ac and a flat TV. The gardens are lush and we'll taken care of. Full of birds. It's not a very busy place so the restaurant is closed. Anyways it's Perfect I'd you like a peaceful and quiet surrounding. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Right now they are renovating the pools deck but you still can swim in the vintage pool with an amazing view to the golfo dulce. A guard is in site 24 h. I felt safe and welcome!

We stayed at Las Gaviotas for 7 nights and by the time we left, it felt like home! From check-in the staff was friendly and very helpful. We had a couple problems with the room which were corrected within minutes of when we reported them. The rooms are clean and spacious. The grounds are very well kept and had quite the population of wildlife! There is a restaurant and bar on site. Both are open-air which allows you to enjoy the breeze while you relax. The pool is clean and warm and right on the water. There is no beach, the only real downside I can think of. Definately try the Gallo Pinto for breakfast and the grilled kabobs on Friday or Saturday night...you won't be disappointed!! As far as Golfito goes, it was probably a booming town years ago, now there isn't anything there really. To do the "tourist' thing, you'll need to take a ferry across the bay to Puerto Jimenez or drive up around the gulf (which was breath-taking).
