Clean room but basic. Lovely bar restaurant with view of water. Very friendly people & good food. Large dishes good to share! Easy for bus or ferry across to Puerto Jimenez. Loved watching the pelicans

+1
During a recent visit to all of the provinces of Costa Rica, our southern most stop over on the Pacific side was Golfito. One of the reasons being, that we wanted to explore the Osa peninsula from here (which unfortunately due to rain and landslides did not come to full fruition).
Reading travel magazines and books, one gets a very dark picture of Golfito, as it was once a bustling export harbor for interalia the banana industry. But, has since fell in a little bit of disrepair. There is a impressive new marina being developed at the upper end of Golfito which will once completed probably get rid of some of the negative publicity this area gets.
We found our visit to the area worth while, both because of its beautiful natural surroundings, as well as still some very commendable places to stay, eat, and shop. We were booked into the Captain Suite at Banana Bay, which had its own private little overwater deck complete with chairs and hammock. It also had a welcome little kitchenette. The rooms were clean, very spacious, with airconditioning, ceiling fans, and in room safe, and easily accessible.
The staff had no problem to extend and alter our stay on short notice literally an hour or two once again because of our plans to drive to the Osa Peninsula being altered due to landslides.
Although not 100% fluent in English, there were enough staff members having a good enough use of the English language to accommodate us, discuss and meet all of our needs.
For yachties, it has its own little “on site marina”, docking facilities and all that goes together with this form of travel, accommodation, and lifestyle.
There’s a bar, overlooking the Gulfo Dulce, as well as a basic good restaurant serving traditional fair, bar type food, and anything in between.
This is not 5 star, but good solid, recommendable, and affordable lodging.

I suggest when checking in here to negotiate the price you want to pay.
For example I was here 3 months on a 51 ft power boat-my monthly charge inc electricity was $900 usd.
A fellow boater on a 48 ft sail boat paid approximately $17 usd a day.
He paid in 10 day increments I paid monthly.
So I say buyer beware and make your offer

My fiance and myself stayed at this marina in the hopes that it would be better than where we had previously stayed in Golfito.
The restaurant servers and kitchen staff were rude to my fiance but not to me. I am guessing the reason is a language barrier, but it really was not cool. The food was so-so, the fish came layered in oil, and the chicken cordon bleu sauce had cinnamon or nutmeg in it.
Our room was big, clean, but we did not sleep a wink. The bed was super hard, and there was a light on outside our window directly above our heads ALL NIGHT LONG.
Needless to say, we will not be back even though the view is great.

Originally had booked 2 night stay at a different hotel in Golfito. We had business, and not enough time to stay in an ecolodge outside of the town, which would normally be our preference. Our original booking was clean, but staff not too friendly, and rooms and all of hotel was extremely dark and depressing. Went to Banana Bay for lunch. Food was great but the staff was even greater! So friendly and welcoming. So, we decided to change places, if a room was available. Christy, in the office was so kind. She showed us an available room with nice, bright light, and the entire place is right on the water with gorgeous views. We knew it was the right choice, to change our 2 nights to Banana Bay! It was so worth it, and we can't thank Christy enough for welcoming us, and putting us up on such short notice!

we were travelling through by boat after a busy season in the Pacific a number of years ago now, but this is a chilled out spot, where everyone is welcome. the food shopping in the area wasn't great, but what they did with the local available food was absolutely stunning. and the coldest beers in the world!
a simple place, right on the water, perfect for launching off to your next adventure.

We docked at the marina for three days and have nothing but positive things to say. It was clean, the staff was super friendly and the restaurant was wonderful. It was only a short cab ride to the nearest town where you could get local food and walk enjoy the beautiful views.

The purpose of my/our visit to Golfito was to do some duty free shopping and in order to qualify for duty free shopping an overnight stay in the area required. After searching the on-line Golfito hotel options, I was somewhat ambivalent about what to expect. After checking in, I was no longer ambivalent. The hotel is on the water in a picture post card setting and a short ride from the shopping zone. The hotel's target audience is boaters, but don't let that deter you. The hotel has everything anyone would need -- air conditioning (it's hot in Golfito!), clean, very comfortable beds, hot water, large modern bathrooms, small refrigerator, cable TV, adequate parking, and is safe. And, let's not forget the adjoining waterfront restaurant with very good food at reasonable prices. Try the hamburgers! Cindy, the owner, deserves kudos for being very helpful and running a tight ship. Whether you're a boater, shopper, or tourist, you'll find the Banana Bay a pleasant place to stay. I also suggest booking in advance so you won't be disappointed because the hotel has a limited number of rooms. My 5-star rating is in large part based on a comparison to hotel options in the area.

Hi,
you can ask the bus driver to stop you at Banana Bay Marina. Otherwise, the closest bus stop is at 50 meters and yes it is safe. See you soon!
