Secluded in the tropical rain forest bordering Corcovado National Park, Luna Lodge is a unique resort described by many as "...a piece of true paradise". Its appeal is, not only, its natural beauty and environment, where the heliconia hang three feet long, and the howler monkeys wake you in the morning, but also, its ambiance. The owners' passion for the preservation of the forest is ever present, and the attentive courtesy, friendly staff always serve "con mucho gusto... with pleasure".
The first night it will be hard to sleep, because you are surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest. Crickets, birds, and howler monkeys are everywhere. The second night, after your 15 K hike through Corcovado NP, will be one of the most restful you've ever had as you start to commune with nature. It is an adventure to get here to say the least, but absolutely worth the effort. Lana is passionate about conservation and coexistence with the creatures with whom we share our earth, and the lodge reflects that. But it also provides a level of service and quality that's hard to imagine maintaining when you are more than 2 hours from the nearest town, along what could barely be described as a road. If you are looking to have a unique experience in CR, this is the place to visit.

Luna Lodge was recommended by a friend who has been many times. We know why. From gorgeous setting to incredible food to fantastic yoga and nature tours it was a perfect visit. Best was the warm, friendly staff who made us feel so at home. This is an extraordinary place. We have come away with great memories and the hope to return.

Luna Lodge was easily the highlight of our honeymoon in Costa Rica. The private bungalows were great, staff couldn’t be friendlier or more attentive, and the location is just the best. On the edge of Corcovado National Park with nature all around - a truly special place.

Miles from anywhere is part of the charm. Lodges spread over the hillside and tents at the top of a steep climb. Our lodge was only a short climb, luckily. Staff extremely helpful and attentive. Food heavily weighted towards vegetarian and a little bland. There is a pool but most people use Luna Lodge to access the National Forrest for hikes, it is very hot and humid here so take appropriate clothing and decent shoes or boots. Not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.

Our stay was well-worth the bumpy ride up the hill from the beach: gorgeous views of Paradise, access to Corcovado park, camaraderie with other guests, beautiful trails on property, and awesome birding along riverbed with guide Maoro.

The Luna Lodge was everything we could have hoped for as far as wildlife viewing, relaxation, comfort and food. Marlon is a tremendous guide with the best eyes I have ever experienced. If it was there, he saw it.

I cannot begin to describe the incredible experience we had a Luna Lodge. We live in Arizona and my 19 year old son and I wanted to visit “the most biologically intense place on earth,” per National Geographic. After extensive research and multiple emails back and forth, Luna Lodge seemed like the perfect place. It was more than we could have ever imagined. From the beginning Edwin was so helpful and responsive to our multiple questions about everything. His assistance helped make our travel arrangements seamless even though it took a few flights/drives to eventually get there. The destination is definitely worth the journey. Luna Lodge is in the middle of the jungle, on the side of the mountain, where you must cross several river/streams to get to the final road that ends at Luna. From the moment you arrive you feel as if you have been transported into another world, something out of a fairy tale. The staff is friendly and welcoming, the property is absolutely breathtaking and so well maintained and the food is outstanding! We stayed in one of the bungalows and I must say the photos don't do them justice . They are beautiful, comfortable and so private each with their own patio where you can enjoy the views and sounds of the jungle around you. The bathrooms are amazing and despite being open to the environment we did not have an issue with insects, only a few geckos on our ceilings which likely helped with any insects in the room. We anticipated mosquitos but did not even have an issue with those during the time we went in early December . The lodge is surrounded by primary and secondary rain forest with multiple trails around the property. This allowed us to hike every day on our own to various waterfalls and outlooks which was exactly what we were looking for. We saw multiple insect species, monkeys, birds daily and were lulled to sleep every night by the sound of the jungle as well as being awoken one morning by the howler monkeys (so cool). We spend our days hiking, taking photographs, reading, eating delicious food, meeting interesting people from around the world and talking with the lovely staff and of course the owner Lana and her wonderful mother which everyone refers to as "Mom" We were there during the beginning of the "dry season" but it still usually rained daily but it was not an issue, we still hiked and did what we wanted and enjoyed it all. The Osa is humid so be prepared for everything to feel "moist" and nothing really dries well so make sure to pack quick dry clothes which will be more comfortable. They do have laundry service if desired which is not very expensive. The vibe is simple and back to basics which is what made it so unique and special. Lana's story of how she created/built Luna Lodge is incredible. She wrote a book describing her journey and if you have a chance to read it while you are there it will give you a new appreciation for the blood, sweat and tears it took to create Luna Lodge and how lucky we are that she created this sanctuary in the middle of the Osa for the rest of the world to experience and enjoy. We did do the Corcovado tour one day which was good but I must say I enjoyed the surrounding trails around Luna that we did on our own even more. The Carate beach is beautiful but its not for swimming (there are crocodiles) and because its at the bottom of the mountain, its best to get a ride from staff either down or definitely back up. We felt nurtured and cared for during our entire week , the vibe was more familial than touristy. If you are looking for a place to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with nature while being nurtured and well fed than Luna Lodge is the perfect place. The main lodge where you dine and can just hang out to enjoy the view is beautiful and always has delicious Costa Rican coffee, tea and water. Did I mention the food? So delicious, fresh, lots of vegetarian but also chicken and fish on some nights if desired, beautifully presented, lots of options and more than enough. I wish they had a Luna Lodge cookbook so I could recreate some the dishes when I returned home. There is WiFi in the main lodge so if you need to connect you can. If you are interested in yoga, their yoga classes with Amed are beyond amazing . The yoga platform sits at the top of the property with a breathtaking view of the ocean/beach/jungle, its like nothing I've ever experienced before. You pay extra for the yoga classes but it is well worth it. The cost is the same if you purchased a class in the states. It wasn't very busy when we were there so I essentially had several private yoga sessions with Amed which was wonderful. He is so very kind and experienced and shares his passion for yoga with everyone. We felt so blessed to have found and experienced the magic of Luna Lodge and the Osa and feel we will be drawn to return again in the future . Thank you Lana, Mom,Amed, Edwin, Ray and all the staff for your care and kindness. …

We had an incredible three nights at the Luna Lodge. We stayed in a bungalow, which was beautiful and memorable. The property is in the middle of the jungle and not easy to get to, but definitely worth it. The food was divine, the staff was incredibly kind and attentive (shout out to Christian, Mauru and David) and we saw all sorts of wildlife (toucans, monkeys, macaws, iguanas) just walking around the property and sitting in our bungalow. We did two yoga classes and massages with Amed, which were wonderful--he is a knowledgeable and attentive teacher who clearly loves what he does. This place can't be beat!

Amazing location. Great service. The food was also a pleasure. We really enjoyed the trails around the lodge and the hike into Corcovado. The guides were from the Lodge team and were very knowledgeable. We got to see a variety of wildlife around the Lodge and on the hikes including monkeys, coatis, an anteater, bats and endless birds including carcaras, hawks, toucans and macaws (and hummingbird chicks in the nest).
