Beautiful resort right on the beach — howler monkeys right there! The staff was very helpful and connected us to an absolutely incredible guide to take us to Corcovado National Park. If you need a guide, ask for Ricki (Ricardo). He had a wealth of knowledge and a keen eye for spotting wildlife. We noticed many of the other guides asked him questions on the trail. He was very kind and funny, exactly the chill and fun personality you want in someone showing you around one of the best national parks in the world. He immediately saw that we were interested in birds, and he is an absolutely incredible birder and showed us more species than we could have dreamed. We learned so much from him and he made the experience of Corcovado extremely fun and enjoyable. Thank you Agua Dulce for connecting us to Ricardo!…
We *definitely* plan to stay here again on our next trip! Agua Dulce staff: Thank you!!! 5 Stars – For their price category! It’s a wonderful little spot! You can’t expect a flawless castle for this price! Rooms are spacious, well kept and very clean. Mattresses are super comfy, AC is powerful and works well. We were here in Dec 2021; top COVID time, so it was very quiet, can’t comment on noise through walls, etc. It was nice and quiet. Staff are all very friendly, professional, and helpful. They helped recommend a local tour guide agency for Corcovado; Sarcos Tours, and we couldn’t have been happier with Sarcos! The vibe was good, pool was very clean, and we hung around and swam for a few hours one night. It was nice and chill, quiet, people all enjoying, but respectfully. We were surfing, and they didn’t have a problem with our boards in the rooms to prevent theft from our roof rack, as long as we rinsed them well first and put them carefully on the floor, not leaned on the walls. Important 1: The resto: We didn’t dine here. The reasons are complicated, and we don’t feel it would be fair to the chef or resto staff to comment here. It might in fact be great! Bottom line: We’d recommend considering giving the resto a shot, but we ***do not*** recommend staying here without a vehicle, and ability to skip the resto, and eat all meals in town if you chose to, as we did. We don’t recommend planning such that you are “stuck with” this resto as your only option, for anymore than a one-night stopover. AD: 5 Stars AD + Resto: Unknown… Important 2: The Wifi only works in the lobby; not the rooms. However, on our entire 2 wk trip across CR, we found this in almost all hotels, including a couple very high-end hotels. You have to adjust mentally to “CR Wifi” for your trip, or you’ll be frustrated the whole time! So it doesn’t really make sense to hold this against AD! : ) If you need constant connection, a local SIM card, or international coverage from your carrier, is *essential*. You can’t count on Wifi anywhere in CR that we found.…
This "Resort" is far from what the pictures show on its website. We were supposed to be there for four days and as soon as we drove up we were shocked at the state of disrepair. When we parked our car we saw a mattress pushed up against a window on the second floor of one of the buildings. The building sorely needed to be painted. Although the pool area and reception were neat, when we went to our room there was a large hole in the screen door. The bedding and towels looked as if they had seen better days. Internet connectivity was virtually nonexistent as we had spotty communications with our travel agent. When we did get in contact with our agent we asked to be moved to another resort nearby. We later found out that Agua Dulce is for sale and has many legal difficulties which may be the cause of the state of the facility. We have been battling this resort to return our funds and yet they keep battling these efforts.…
I am writing this review because this is one of my favorite places to stay in the Puerto Jimenez area and I want people to know why. First the beach! Yes, lots of hotels are on the beach right? Surprisingly in the Puerto Jimenez area most of the hotels are nestled up in the hils or mountains overlooking the beach/ocean with no or very difficult beach access. At Agua Dulce Beach Resort you literally walk out of your room, pass the beautiful pool and restaurant area and you are on a nearly secluded, wide sandy beach! The second story restaurant by the pool also overlooks the gulf and beach. You can literally sit in that bar and restaurant for hours enjoying the sounds of howler monkeys, wild scarlet macaws and other cool birds in the nearby jungle while watching and listing to the waves. The resort is very small...only about 30 rooms - which to me is ideal -better service, less traffic! There were enough people there to make it interesting but not so many I couldn't relax. The main draw of course is the surrounding areas. With breathtaking nature tours on land (you can arrange at reception) and stunning biodiversity in the Sweet Gulf - Whales, dolphins, amazing fishing etc...you really only use your room at night to dream about the days adventures since one could spend a lifetime exploring all the possible activities and sights in Costa Rica's largest coastal rainforest. If you enjoy rainforest hiking, wildlife photo opportunities, and the beach you will love Agua Dulce beach resort. There were several biologists staying there during my trip and the photos they wee getting were unreal - welcome to a live version of the Discovery Channel with you as the star. This is not a mega resort but an amazing value for the $$$. Safe, seucre and friendly. I will be back…
Our suite with sea view had airconditioning, which was essential for the very hot weather in February. The Sicilian chef looked after us very well during our week long stay with many classic Italian dishes on the varied menu. We ate every day at the hotel because the other Restaurants we visited in the rather seedy town of Puerto Jiminez did not appeal to us. Scarlet MacCaws flew over the hotel every day and fed on nuts in adjacent "Almond" trees. Howler monkeys were howling occasionally in trees in the car park. A trip to Corcovado National Park is highly recommended. Some drawbacks to be taken into account are the approach road is unsurfaced, washboarded and dusty, the internet works ok in Reception and Restaurant, but not very well in the rooms, and the beach is not suitable for swimming every day, because of waves and rip currents. The pool is a useful alternative.…
This place is off the beaten track which was great. The staff were friendly, the ocean was beautiful, the pool was great, the restaurant makes home made noodles and dough, and the drinks were spot on. The rooms were nice and beds comfy. If you want to be in town for the night life this is not the place for you. If you want to get off the beaten path in comfort then this is the place. If you take a tour ask for Randal-he knows everything about the animals, plants, & area in general.
We had two days of fishing planned for the area and our travel agent booked us for the resort. Room was basic and clean. Majority of the staff was very friendly. Because we left so early each morning for fishing, we were going to miss breakfast. They offered to have a packed meal ready for us each morning. Very thoughtful. Be aware that the restaurant on site is not part of the resort. This caused some confusion and problems, but nothing insurmountable. Note: the restaurant prefers cash. We did catch fish and the restaurant did prepare a meal for the 4 of us with our fish. It was beautifully presented with grilled pineapple and very delicious. The chef stopped by to ensure we were happy.
this is a great place to lounge and play in the surf at Punta Islita. Staff is very friendly and you can even get in on a mixology class with full size tastings of local drinks. Food is delicious and drinks are nice and strong. Be sure to order the specialty in served in a coconut!!
Our family of three stayed in an oceanfront room. Just steps away was a huge and mostly empty sandy beach. In the mornings, a dozen or more scarlet macaws would have breakfast in the almond tree just outside. The room was large (actually a suite) and clean. It is very quiet, and in exchange for the quiet you get isolation. The restaurant is fine, and has great pastas and fruit juices, but if you want some variety, it will be a long walk or a drive.
We stayed at the resort for a week and there were a few nights where we were the only guests at the resort. The resort is in the middle of nowhere on a very beautiful and desolate beach. I recommend renting a car since puerto jimenez is an hour and a half walk away. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The receptionist made sure that there was always staff at the restaurant despite us being the only guests at the resort for a few nights. Breakfast was included. I am surprised by the other reviews because we enjoyed the a la carte breakfast. The breakfast started off with fruit and then you got to order either pancakes, French toast, costa rican breakfast (eggs with beans and rice) or American breakfast. Lunch and dinner was also delicious at the Italian restaurant. We loved the freshly baked pizza. The room also had Wi-Fi, a.c. And was very clean. We had a double bed room in front of the pool. The room was very basic and not that spacious, but we did not mind. We had just finished camping for a week in the rainforest so we were not concerned about the old fashioned furniture. We were just happy to have a.c.. The only negative aspect would be that it was difficult to swim at the beach and that there were only a few chairs at the beach. Bring water shoes and insect repellant. The sand gets extremely hot during the day and at dusk and dawn there are some sand flies at the beach. We visited the beach during midday in order to avoid the sand flies.…
