We were forced to reschedule the entire trip due to the rain alert in the country and changed our dates without problems. Upon arrival we were given a room superior to the contracted. We are especially grateful for the kindness and professionalism of Jean Carlos, who gave us directions, guided us along the roads (sometimes impassable) and explained us about the culture and way of life of the region. The common kitchen is perfectly equipped and very practical, given the little offer of catering in the surrounding area.

Very nice rooms and tidy communal area with everything, kitchen fully equiped and even some board games. They have transformed the little garden area to create a quiet and peaceful place very close to the center of Puerto Jimenes. Price / quality match. Very friendly staff, always helpful, up for a chat and ready to recommend the best things to do in the area. Thanks for a nice stay.

To be honest, it was a bit tough to find, but the stay was very good. The room was very spacious. The people were very friendly and we could leave our luggage there while we had overnight in Corcovado. The location was decent. We saw a big iguana one day there.

Great space for friends and family to enjoy the parks and nature in this area of CR. The beds are comfy, and the kitchen is big and easy to use. Jean Carlos is wonderful and very helpful with the questions we had and showing us the spots in town. The lounge area is covered with trees and wildlife so it’s very much a hidden oasis. It is an added bonus it’s so close to the airport. My whole group and i felt very at home here right away. Thank you to Jean Carlos for setting up a lovely stay.

Wonderful and well-located place in Puerto Jimenez!
We stayed there for 5 nights- family of 5 adults and a baby. Rooms, kitchen and common areas were very comfortable, Jean Carlos - the administrator was very helpful and the place is well located - just a few minuted walk to the beach or the supermarket.
Happy to recommend it :)

The place is clean, tidy and safe. It is also very close to the center of Puerto Jimenez, restaurants, services and the beach. Plus an excellent host, a very tropical green area and a common space for recreation.

Just not a good deal for the dollar. Place is simple, as advertised. Shared common area is nice to have. Owner/operator is the primary drawback. We had a few simple questions during our stay, often related to services HE suggested (tours, etc) and we were constantly greeted with gruffness and downright meanness. Try Corcovado Beach Lodge just 5 minute walk away where for the same price you get luxury accommodations right on the beach and a friendly, helpful owner

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by us during your visit with us. Of course I do remember your visit. You were greeted with a warm welcome just as all the other guests. I remember you asking about the tours available. I told you which agency I recommend with my 26 yrs experience here on the Osa. I am sorry you choose a different outfitter and had problems on your tour. I think this is why you are upset with your stay here. As far as your recommendation on where to stay beach front hotels are more expensive and your recommendation on where to stay maybe is not a good choice. I had clients come stay with me because of bed bugs in the hotel you recommended. I am sorry if you were one of the 10% of my guest that were not happy. I wish I could make all my guest happy but that is impossible. Pura vida.....

At the first impression it seems a nice place with good rooms and a big common space with a kitchen, although the owner Mark is really a boss. If you're not American he will treat you differently (and in a really rude way) and you will be spied from the cameras or directly from him. In addiction there are some prohibitions like don't wash any clothes in the room, don't turn on the air conditioner with open windows (or he will enter to turn it off!!!) In the reservation they said there was a private parking instead we had to place the car in the street. Furthermore the wifi never worked well. If you don't want to feel unconfortable and spied don't come to Cabinas Tropicales.

I am so sorry if there was any inconvenience caused to you while visiting us. Yes we do have a fully equipped common kitchen area for the clients use which everyone enjoys, cooking and chatting with other travelers. In your response to be being racist against other nationalities that visit here, my response to that is that statement is it's uncalled for. I have guest's from all over the world visit here and I treat all of them with due respect. Yes we do have a security camera system here for your safety and security. This is a very safe town in my 26 yrs here but it's better to be prepared I am sorry you disagree. Unfortunately I have to post signage in the bathrooms to avoid some people washing there dirty clothes in the bathroom sink which is designed to wash your face and brush your teeth not wash dirty clothes. Also the same in the shower to wash your body not your laundry. We have a great laundry service (1000 mil per kilo very cheap) located 100m from the hotel which was explained to you upon check in. As far as leaving your windows open when using the AC in your room. It's pretty common place and normal to close the windows while using AC to keep all the cold air inside. It's a waste of energy and it's certainly not good for the AC unit. I never enter anyone's room to turn off the AC if you leave your windows open, yes I will first inform you first if you are in your room. If not the electric is turned off for the AC via the breaker and turned back on when you return and close the windows. I don't understand your logic on this statement? We do have private enclosed secured parking if you want. Most people park in the parking area on the side of the street. Further more concerning the wifi. If you do some research unfortunately Costa Rica is rated the second worse country in the world for internet service. Beleave me if I could change that I would. I am so sorry if you felt uncomfortable and spied on most people enjoy there stay here as you can see in my rating of 4.5 out of 5 star rating. Pura vida...

We spent one night here in July, the off season. The rooms are arranged around a central courtyard with picnic table and cooking facilities. Another group staying there was up late cooking, drinking, and being very loud. Good management would have asked them to quiet down. At least post signs. We were also unhappy with the checkin process. No one we met introduced themselves, smiled, or welcomed us. A young boy showed us the rooms and gave us the keys. An adult who I presume was the owner blurted out to us later in the day that he usually took payment when guests checked in. Ok. But no one asked for payment when we checked in so how were we supposed to know. And if you wanted to be paid, why not say, "would you mind paying now? we usually collect payment at checkin." Internet was broken most of the day. There is AC but it needed to have the circuit breaker turned on. When I went looking for someone to help figure out why it wasn't working, the same adult male helped me. He did ask if I needed help. I told him the issue. After that I don't think he said anything, just went and turned on the circuit breaker. Again, I think he was the owner, but he never introduced himself and never smiled. The rooms are clean and basic. The mattresses are poor, though not for this budget in Costa Rica.

Hi we appreciate your review and thank you for visiting us for the night. I have never had a bad report on other clients being loud. I live on site and all clients are informed that if there s a problem just knock on my door. As far as the check in I am sorry that I did not meet you at the gate as I always do and introduce myself. At the time of your stay I had an accident which entailed 22 stitches in my heel on my foot. I was not able to walk for 4 days . My 13 yr old son who has been around the hotel business all his life was helping me out with check in and the clients. Sorry for any inconvenience caused to you. With all the hotels I have managed and visited you either pay or present your credit card on file which you never did as you were asked to pay but you need to get money from the ATM which is ok . Your account problem is caused by power Serge's which happens daily here in 3 rd world countries and caused the breaker to shut off ....I live on site and never received a complaint when you were here??? Sorry for any inconvenience caused to you.. pura vida

I did make a reservation by mail far in advance for room number 5 because of the outside shower.
When we arrived early in the afternoon the owner told us that room number 5 was not available. We could get another room. I did told him that I did not like this. He did offer a discount. The room was OK only the AC did give trouble. It did not react well to the remote. After we return that evening we could manage to start but AD did not survive a short power outage at 4 AM. Because the AC did not cool very good while it was working it did get hot in the room. Between 4 AM and 5 AM I did hear two people talking very loud. To loud to be fixed with ear plugs. I thought I could recognize the voices of the owner and his son.

The hostel was located close by the airport (planes only during day time), between the town and the restaurant at the beach. A good location. The shower was very good.

Well if you remember when my help gave you your luggage with the envelope which had your refund and you sent it back. I guess of course you dont remember. Its funny how this all started with you stealing my towels to take to the park and you were caught and of course you forget to mention that also. Pura Vida

I didn't do any fishing but I'm sure that the owner of Cabinas Tropicales or the staff at Marisquería Corcovado Seafood restaurant could help you out once you get there. The restaurant staff kindly arranged for me to meet with a local fisherman and buy seafood from them directly. I also arranged to rent kayaks from the restaurant next door, and kayaked to the mangroves where I saw a fisherman fishing from the shore. Good luck.

We did it with another guide. We liked the tour a lot, we get a plane to the forest and we spend two days. But for accomodation in Puerto Jimenez I recomend to you not to go to Cabinas Tropicales, the owner is the worst, there are a lot of places for accomodation really good and cheap. Enjoy yout stay!
