Lunch & drinks at the restaurant. GREAT service, quality food and the drinks were excellent. I highly recommended a stop for lunch or dinner though we did not stay the night the beach was pleasant as well.
I have been to Lapa Rios and Bosque del Cabo. I chose Iguana Lodge this time for the value but it was easily as good or better! An hour doesn't go by where you don't see or hear a monkey, macaw, iguana, pelican or other amazing creature. The open air Casitas are perfect with sturdy screens that keep out bugs and a view of the sunrise on the ocean from your bed! The ocean is good for swimming and the beach is sandy (although very hot as it's black sand). The pool is a bit warmer and has a new interesting visitor each day. Food is beyond amazing - we ate every meal there and already miss it. A tour to matapolo with Sidnar is a must - you'll see all monkey species, sloth, peccary, coati and much more all in a few hours. All that and the best part is the friendly staff who make every effort to take care of you. Huge shout out to Mardi in the office, Andrea and Angie who are fun servers, Oliver for the best food, and Paulo who keeps the grounds immaculate but will also drop his rake to help you spot a Heron or Macaw! Hope I got the names right and didn't miss anyone cause they were all awesome. The only downfall is the road from Puerto Jiminez to Iguana Lodge is a bumpy few km. An SUV is needed and pick up any snacks or drinks for your room before you go as you don't want to do that road more than needed. (The road is still shorter than the one to Bosque and Lapa and you ARE allowed to have food in your room at Iguana).…
I just spent a week at Iguana as a solo traveler. Waking up each day to the sunrise (and coffee) over the golf was truly serene. Can't beat the proximity to the beach and the solitude. Room was enough for me, food was delicious, help was good. Yes, it wasn't cheap, wasn't perfect, but they tried to make me comfortable and make my stay a great experience. I spoke to Lauren before I went, so that helped me make better decisions and have reasonable expectations. i.e. rent my own car, appropriate excursions and costs. Thanks to all the staff
Having just experienced 10 days at Iguana Lodge – I thought this review could help others with information I wish I had known. The sound of ocean is amazing. The beach is very exclusive – few people, feels safe and full moon on water or stars at night are amazing. The pool is great to have and nice. Yoga platform area is nice and shaded – just needs a new roof soon. The road from Puerto Jimenez airport to Iguana Lodge is one of the worst in Costa Rica – which is why while short (takes an hour to walk) it takes 15 minutes to drive and costs $20 by taxi each way. It is better to rent a car and not leave much. Just enjoy the great food, beach, boogie board, pool, friendly staff. Food is very good – fresh and delicious. And next door, Agua Dulce, is half the price, so keep that in mind. Our accommodation charge was $2127.79 for Saturday-Saturday. We went with A/C room. These are over the restaurant and very small and you hear other guests and kitchen. Ours was moldy and we did not sleep the first night being shut in with the mold. When we reported to reception they had someone come in and disinfect – but that smell was also very intense – and did not improve until day 3. - The rooms are very very small. They could have hooks on walls – which would be a small expense and free up the limited floor space. Another guest said when they arrived and saw the size of room and couldn’t fit in with stuff, they switched to a cabina which was larger and nicer, but much more expensive. My main attraction was the on-site naturalist. According to Iguana lodge’s website, the pdf they emailed after booking and when planning and the booklet they gave us in person when we got there – they had an on-staff naturalist. This was not true – used to be, but now works on his own. So all tours and time with him were extra charges. The guide, Sidnar, is awesome and I highly recommend, but I was disappointed to be given false information by Iguana lodge. There are other lodges in the area with better on-site nature and guides, such as Bosque Del Cabo – which would have been a better choice for me. However, Iguana lodge would not give me my money back that I had already paid. Our extra charges (taxis, tours, food) cost us more than our accommodation – over $2300. For that price – El Remanso or staying in Puerto Jimenez or Matapalo is better – where you are staying at or closer to excursions or the excursions are included. The $20 taxi every time to Puerto Jimenez or $100 to Matapalo adds up. We had much better service with Cabinas Jimenez setting up tours for us even though we were not staying with them. They are great people. We booked a dolphin boat tour with them and they were able to book our La Perica Sloth Garden tour in the moment when we had been asking Iguana Lodge reception for days to no avail. Again the information on Iguana website and email and book they have on property said they would book things for us, but it is better to have a Whats App phone and make tour and taxi arrangements directly – you will save money and have more success. For example, we paid La Perica family $45 in person plus $20 tip for the amazing tour and farm time. The taxi that Iguana Lodge booked for us was $135 – so it would be better to have your own car or leave from Puerto Jimenez.…
Without a doubt my favourite place that we stayed during our two week trip to Costa Rica. We spent four nights at Iguana, but could have easily spent the full two weeks. The setting is out of this world - incredibly comfortable rooms in the forest, on the edge of a spectacular stretch of beach. The pool area is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen - a limestone pool carved out of the forest, with macaws and toucans flying overhead. Our club room had a huge comfy bed and views across the grass and through the palms to the beach. It was bliss to lie in a hammock on the verandah in the afternoon and watch the birds. The lodge staff were extremely helpful and professional, and all of the trips they booked for us were top notch. We went birding at Dos Brazos, kayaking in the mangroves and had a guided trip to Matapalo. Lauren was a fountain of knowledge about the area and gave us a great tour of the lodge gardens, which she has transformed over the past 23 years. The food at the restaurant was probably the best food we ate the entire trip, so there's really no need to go anywhere else. Loved their tacos and humus ceviche and they should add the ginger marmalade recipe to their website - delicious. We haven't felt as relaxed and content for years, as when we left Iguana. We'll be back.…
We stopped by to inquire about staying at the lodge. The reception woman must have been having a bad day because her attitude was horrible. I have to say that the place was starting to look a little run down. For the $ they ask there for a nights stay would get you 2 nights at agua dolce which is next door. The people there were great!
We spent 4 days at iguana Lodge and wish we were still there. We stayed in a casita in the trees. Lovely room with a large porch. The manager Mardi was so friendly and helpful. The lodge overlooks a gorgeous beach and there are many birds and monkeys to see. There is also a lap pool and relaxation area. The food in the Restaurant is excellent served with a big smile by Oliver. Except the road into the lodge this place is perfect.
The Iguana Lodge is a secluded contemporary beachfront resort located south of Puerto Jimenez along the beaches of the Golfo Dulce. The empty beach and surrounding jungle is inhabited by scarlet Mccaw’s, Howler monkeys and other interesting animals. The slower pace of the less frequented Osa Peninsula is calm and relaxing and the Iguana Lodges serene location near the end of the road makes this place enchanting. Service and accommodations at the Iguana Lodge are very good. The staff is friendly and helpful, most are proficient in English. The accommodations are clean and very good. The air-conditioned rooms are essential. The resort features a swimming pool, Yoga instruction and recreation rooms above the pool. They also offer free use of paddle boards and kayaks and other recreational equipment. The restaurant has a view of the beach and offers breakfast. The regular menu offers a wide selection. The daily specials are excellent, great drinks, and the service is wonderful.…
All staff were truly superb - friendly, helpful, and engaging. Tours, particularly Sindar's, are excellent though expensive, in part, to high taxi rates. Landscaping is beautiful and attractive to birds and wildlife. Food and bar were good with exceptional staff. The nearby Aqua Dulce Resort also serves meals and attracts more locals. Pool are is good and kayak, tennis (not paddleball), and other equipment was always available to guests. The ceramics studio/music room is open to guests but feels more like a personal hobby room of the owners. Our only true complaint is that candid information about the Casitas and hotel rooms is not readily available on the web site. The Casitas are 5 separate wooden structures facing the ocean, each with two or more levels. The rooms entirely screened, with a double bed plus one, or more, single beds. Each level has an open-air, furnished porch. The Casitas are pretty private, roughly 50 feet apart, and well hidden from each other by vegetation. Rooms are reasonably bug free especially if the door is kept shut. Casita VVK is three levels with an open-air living room and kitchen below two sleeping levels, each with a bathroom. Casitas Reina and Ilan have bathrooms on both levels and are often rented to separate parties at the same time - not ideal for privacy and especially noisy for the lower Casita. Smallest Jasmine and Orquidea buildings have one bathroom on the lower level which limits their rental to one party. The hotel is situated directly above the kitchen (staffed 0530 - 2100) and includes 8 air-conditioned rooms, 4 facing the ocean. Some guests mentioned noise from neighbors as disturbing. Would agree with other posts that transportation from the airport should be provided by the hotel at no charge.…
It was a pity that the hotel was abandoned by its owners. Place was nice and wild, with a good beach We paid more than 700$ for a casita with two rooms.Only one bathroom and shower outside the rooms, no air conditioning.can you believe it? Food was very expensive .the cook did his best with the poor quality of food Service was kimd
