We stayed in the fully refurbished room with 2 double beds and balcony. We loved it. It was very new and exceptionally clean. Beautiful sunset views. We saw many other rooms were old style and almost skipped this hotel but picked this room for more money and it is well worth it.

Excellent food and service. One would never believe in such good quality or service in a non touristic place. Absolutely super steak and seafood soup. Good stock of wine for fine dining and knowledgeable service by Kenneth. Coconut flan for dessert and carillo with some orange rinds was amazing.

We stumbled upon this hotel while driving toward Puntarenas from Dominical. We were heading to Samara but wanted to break our journey. We had planned to stop in Jaco but when we got there we thought it was horrible so we headed off. We spotted this hotel from a bridge as we passed through Puerto Caldera. It's across a lagoon and easy to miss but I'm glad we saw it as its a real little treasure with a wonderful restaurant. It looks a little like a small European hotel. The rooms are comfortable, clean with a good shower. We just bowled in and at first I thought it looked "too nice" for our budget but was shocked when the owner said it was just $50 including breakfast for the four of us (2 adults, 2 children). We treated ourselves to a beautiful dinner in the restaurant which sits on the lagoon. At breakfast we watched the fishermen as they headed out (or in we weren't sure). It was a really lovely spot and we felt very lucky that we'd discovered it even if it was just for one night.

This is one of the better values for a hotel in this area. We've stayed at several hotels in the Orotina/Caldera area over the years and we will definitely be returning here. The rooms are small, but quite clean and are well air conditioned. Don't expect a 5 star hotel, but do expect clean, comfortable hotel with hands-on ownership who keep everything well maintained. The price also included a typical breakfast of gallo pinto con huevos, fresh fruits, coffee, juice and toast, all served with a smile. Try the restaurant for dinner; excellent seafood right on the lagoon. Small snook (locally called robalo) can be seen feeding right from the table during high tide.

It can be easy to miss, so keep an eye out for the entrance to Mata Limon, right next to the bridge that goes over inlet near Puerto Caldera. At night, the neon sign can be seen across the lagoon from the Coastal Highway.

During Semana Santa...After 3 hours of driving in 100 degree heat. ...we decided to pull off the highway. We stumbled upon this quaint little fishing village Mata Limon. Initially we were just going to stop for cold drinks and a meal...we ended up getting a room and spending the night in Costa Del Sol Hotel. We are so happy we did...we had one of the best nights we've had here in Costa Rica. The hotel is right on the water...(a lagoon/ bay inlet) it is surrounded by mangroves and beautiful views. We had dinner ( fish with shrimp) and it was delicious. they have live lobsters avail...in aquarium tanks...we just wanted to stick with something that wasn't alive. The room was great! Clean, quite, ac worked awesome, hot shower, very comfy bed, (always important, good tv, secured parking lot, & delicious free breakfast for hotel guests. The owner is a nice man and his son is his right hand man. Together they have a very beautiful, well taken care of hotel.

I notice that the favorable ratings have been from people who stopped by rather than booked ahead. The hotel is clean and comfortable with very attentive service. We checked in very early...around 9:45am and the manager/ owner was very friendly saying that our room had not been vacated yet (ocean front double) so he would let us stay in a street front double until the people left and they had a chance to clean it. We went down for lunch at 12:30, and they had a great piña colada, the meal was expensive and just okay. AT 2 o'clock, , my husband went down to check on the room and was told that the agency that we booked through (their agency on their website) had told them that we were okay with the room we were in, so they rented our room to another guest...but if they didn't show up by 4, we could have our oom back. The difference in price was $50for the treetside and $80 for the lagoon front. We had also booked our transfer to San Jose with the same agency the next day ($100). at this point, I did not trust them to get us to the airport on time and didn't like the monkey business about the room, so we decided to go to san Jose and spend the night at a Hilton there. Our accommodations especially the beds were a Major step up.

I had looked forward to a non chain locally owned hotel, but never figured out who was gaming us...whether it was the hotel or the travel agency. When I contacted their booking agency and requested a refund, they were very apologetic and said they were not charging us or anything. The hotel owner called us a cab and was also very accommodating. We were just not comfortable with the ambiguity of the situation.

WE saw reviews on Trip Advisor and booked this hotel. It was a challenge to book it because there is no way to do on their website. It was recommended by another Trip Advisor person to download Skype and call them. I did that and they said I had a room, but I could never get them back to confirm. Any emails went unanswered. However, the Hotel Grano d' oro in San Jose where we stayed first, made the contact and reservations. It was absolutely worth the persistance trying to get the reservation. It is a small hotel. Very clean, and the restaurant was outstanding. Julia and her family are wonderful.

In addition to last night's great meal, I have eaten here at least 30 times and stayed here on more than 10 occasions. Julia and her husband Willy and their 3 sons are really accommodating people. We have been permitted to lock our car up with theirs (in a private area) for overnight stays. I have never EVER had a bad meal here. The lobster is DELECTABLE and they are presented openly and viewably fresh in 4 giant tank/aquariums. located between the bar and restaurant areas. Go check this place out as you cannot go wrong from a freshness standpoint. The rooms are comfy too. Ask for one of the 2 rooms at the end of the breezeway on the estuary facing end of the hotel. They have a small deck outside with a table and chairs.

Stayed for 4 nights after a long tour through Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Costa Rica. We were looking for a tranquil time before continuing our Central American tour. Everything thing about this little gem was wonderful. The owners and their staff were brilliant, nothing was too much for them. Breakfast and dinner was great. Everything was fresh and tasty. The speciality was fish which we had every night. With a comprehensive fish menu and the restaurant signature dish paella nothing could go wrong. Our suite overlooked the lagoon and was beautifully decorated. The beds are so comfortable it has been difficult to leave! We could not recommend this heaven of tranquility too highly.
