Rooms have one single-pane glass window with lovely view but no way to control privacy. There is only a rollup/down opaque shade. As the sun begins to fall, you have no window sheers in order to still see the beautiful view, instead you can only roll down this monolithic opaque shade that prevents all viewing to the outside. Who does this?

Dont stay here unless it makes sense in your travel plans and you want to be close to san jose for a flight out. Travel to the airport is 1-1.5 hours. Nothing to do around the hotel, entire peninsula feels rundown and barricaded/desolate. Its almost like a compton area. Hotel pool bar was shut down for a day during our stay. Beds were comfy and the room had AC however again there is nothing to do in this area.

Stayed in the Penthouse apartment. Got the one with view of the ocean, spectacular! A little bit dated decor and a lot that should need some renovation. We sleep 9 people without feeling crowded. Traditional Costarician breakfast; rice, plantations, eggs, cheese nothing else. No dairy products / cereals or any kind of cheese/ham to put on a sandwich. Two poolareas. Didn’t get that much help from anyone in reception due to poor English, the same at the pool bar. The loacation is only good if your planing on taking the boat over to Nicoya. Overall it’s not worth the money! In the surroundings there’re isn’t anything to see. No restaurants within walking distance or supermarket. So you are stuck with hotel restaurant witch serve food that is of a lower standard.

Dear Solfrun, On behalf of the staff of the Puerto Azul Boutique Resort & Marina, we appreciate your visit to the hotel, thank you very much for reporting the unsatisfactory details of your stay. Our main goal is to offer a high-end experience to our guests, and it is disappointing to know that we did not accomplish that with you, your opinion is very important for us since it sets the parameters for improving in our services, and we appreciate your made us know about it. In the other hand, I would like to point at the fact that our location not only convenient for getting from here to Nicoya, there are a wide variety of attractions and destinations within one or two hour drive from our resort such as National Parks, Wildlife Rescue Centers, Wild Water Rafting, Adventure Parks, Sky Diving, among others, so it places us in a great location for exploring Costa Rica with One Day Tour. Once again thank you for your comments.

As much as I love Costa Rica, Puntarenas town is a place to avoid unless you want to get the Ferry to Tortuga island from here. It even feels a bit unsafe at times. Not made for tourism. The hotel is definitely not worth a 4 star rating and less so the boutique name on it. The room was very basic and run down. They didn’t have fridge on it and they had to take it from another room. The breakfast selection was extremely limted and of poor quality. The most disappointing bit was their unfriendly staff. Also, we were woken up before 7am by people working with a leaf-blower. It felt like Pura vida has not visited this place in a long time! The only positive part was the sunset by the lighthouse! This places definitely needs lots of Tender, Love & Care

We were placed in a room on the second floor above the gym and there were Zumba classes going on with music blasting for hours. we asked for the music to be turned off or much lower but it was still too loud for us to even function in the room. On top of that when we arrived at the room which was booked with three people, the bed for the third person had not been arranged and there were no towels whatsoever in the unit. Also be aware that this boutique hotel is not in a good area. And there is a one-way street right outside the hotel. when you drive to the lobby there isn't a way to turn around to go back to the hotel so you are forced to get out onto the highway just to get back around to the same property you started on and it's very easy to go the wrong way on the one-way Street. None of this was made aware to us before we booked the hotel. On the positive side the rooms are fairly nice and depending on your room you may have a great view of the harbor and the ocean. But regardless of that there is no way this place is worth the money.
