I'M hoping to WARN you about this lovely speed trap in Southern New Mexico. We were on our way to Pie Town to sample the famous pies. Magdalena is just one of those small towns you pass through on the highway. Naturally the speed decreases from 50 to 30, but what is not posted is that 30mph seems a bit arbitrary. We were out of town when the flashing lights pulled us over. Seems that the 50 mph SIGN was just over the hill. The police officer was rude and offered to "call in the judge" if we wanted to contest the fine. Just be aware to slow down and stay slow until the sign for a higher speed comes up. Usually tourists are given a warning, but this guy was just into quotas. We saw him pull over another car on our way back in the same area
The hotel is an interesting combination of old and modern. It is located in the central area, close to the shopping streets and opposite the Theater. the rooms are clean, equipped with coffee and tea maker and water bottle. The restaurant has a special menu that is worth trying; as well as drinks, especially tonic gin. They are very strict with COVID 19 measures.
Five star all the way, great views, excellent food, great location, great staff. The only place to stay if you are staying downtown. Close to the national museum as well as the San Jose Central Market and the municipal crafts market.
Beautiful hotel in the heart of San Jose! This hotel is wonderful. It is walking distance to many sites and dozens of restaurants. The rooms are fabulous, and the staff is extremely helpful! We spent a week on the Pacific Coast in Costa Rica, and spend our last afternoon and evening of the trip downtown San Jose. The ride to the airport the next morning was easy and took about 20 minutes. The stay at this hotel and being in downtown San Jose was the perfect ending to our trip!
Great local charm in a historic building with fantastic bilingual staff who were courteous and helpful about all things. We stayed for a week & it was convenient to downtown exploring all things both touristy and local, while a direct pickup for excursions into scenic rural Costa Rica. The staff is nearly all bilingual, a big plus as I speak Spanish but my husband does not. Good value & peaceful quiet respite after a day of sightseeing. The city view from the top floor restaurant and bar is stellar. Cocktails are great too!
We took a lit t le time to warm to this hotel. The entrance is five floors below reception and at night not at all inviting. But we found the hotel to be very good - very friendly staff, good cocktails, a well appointed if slightly bloodless room, good food ( especially the ceviche) and a very good breakfast. It’s right in the centre of town close to the wonderful 1897 Teatro and an extremely good gold museum. We also visited the excellent Lankester botanical ga4den which is well worth a visit particularly if you like orchids.
This was a fabulous hotel in San Jose. We only stayed one night, but I would certainly recommend the hotel. The top floor is the lobby, bar, and restaurant. This top floor has 360 degree view of the City and sounding country. The buffet breakfast was expansive with an omelette station, the rooms were very comfortable and clean, and the location is central. The service was excellent and everyone was friendly.
We stayed for two night after arriving to Costa Rica. The hotel itself has been renovated and is nice. The main lobby has a nice view of the city. The staff was wonderful. We had dinner and it was very good. The breakfast buffet has a good deal of options. The service was very good as well. Housecleaning did not come the 1st day, we had to request clean towels. It is very centrally located to all the museums, everything is walkable. The area is very well policed. There are also doorman out front at all times. It is set back off a very busy street and the square is to the other side. Overall good experience for a few nights stay in the city.
Nice enough hotel in good location. Check-in was super busy and could have used a few more staff. Good doorman station. No upgrade for gold. Decent dinner food in restaurant, breakfast was better. Dinner wait staff ambivalent, with no interest in service or conversation. Room with interior view is really dark and coffin-like. Would only recommend for one night. The saftey bar in the bathroom was broken.
We flew into San Jose and planned to stay here for 5 nights as a base for our excursions. When we got to check in, we were told the room we had booked wasn’t available. We were also informed that most of the photos on the website were not accurate and there were discrepancies in size and accommodations in each room. For instance one bed vs 2, etc. no couch, no balcony, no tub, vs those items showing on the site. So I am not sure where the actual pictures came from? They didn’t have our room and they were sold out. Somehow they were able to find us a much smaller room for more than what we had paid for the larger room we reserved?? One bed for three adults??? And I am not sure why their mistake would cause us to be downgraded? We spent an entire afternoon scrambling to find somewhere else to stay after spending most of the day traveling. We ended up going to the Marriott nearby and loved it!!! The restaurant only has one menu for lunch/dinner and a buffet for breakfast. If you stay for a couple days, the options will get old so find places nearby to eat. We were told by the valet not to be outside after 6pm and to hide any gold jewelry. He specifically said necklaces as people will walk closely behind you and snatch it off your neck. Keep that in mind if planning to eat out for dinner or call a taxi. The interior of the hotel is breathtaking. Fantastic light fixtures. The views from the restaurant are great. You can walk to all the major attractions from here which is why we booked our stay! Not sure how this is a curio collection…it is not that nice and the rooms, etc are very small. This is pretty much it for us with Hilton. Never again. We spoke with a manager and everyone just shrugged and said they would waive the cancel fee and we were welcome to go elsewhere. And did I mention we are the highest level of HiltonHonors? Also, there is no pool. There are many other hotels within 5 miles that have ones so keep that in mind if you want to swim while there. They wouldn’t really have anywhere to put a pool unless it was on a roof. They are center in downtown.…
