The Santo Tomas is very good find for those who appreciate the values of a small, family-run hotel close to the city center. The rooms are clean and have an old-world charm; the courtyard area is very attractively done around a two-level water pond; the hotel is within walking distance of major attractions; taxis pass by very frequently; and best...

HolaUS046, Wonderful meeting you both in the breakfast and then what a surprise the next day I see you with a broken arm. I am so happy you had great medical care while here and that we could assist you. It is always my pleasure and I hope all of my staff to serve and assist our clients. Your title...

Very good stay is this hotel with an authentic style. Extremely serviceable people, very comfortable place, and well located vs city center (5 mins walk). The owner spend time talking with the guests, all staff fluent in english.

Owner very welcoming. Close to town centre. Pool, jacuzzi, and gardens very nice. Shower good, breakfast ok. No bar or restaurant. Wifi good. Budget rooms have a fan, no A/c, double room had bed against wall so access not good. Most importantly,no view from high window! ! Safe is a bedside cupboard that locks.

Hi Ian g, I don't quite understand your title and then your 2 green dots. The photos are correct in showing the hotel. And as you stated Very nice Pool , Jacuzzi and gardens, shower good and the free breakfast OK. Not really sure, what more you want for 54.99 on the hotels direct web site. Our economy rooms are...

Stayed one night at the start of our one month trip and two nights at the end. This hotel is very well run and has been owned and run by American ex-pat Thomas for over fifteen or twenty years. Starting on his own he eventually has built this grand old San Jose home into a really well run and very...

Hi Mark, This is a really cool , well thought out and informative review you have written. I also really appreciate , that you mentioned my staff by name. That is so important for me, as well as my wife's hot sauce! Hey, a married man for over 26 years can always use a few extra points with the wife:...

Stayed there on our last night before our flight the next morning. It was in a central location within walking distance of a lot of amenities, however, where is was located was not the greatest. I knew it was a bit dated before booking, but found that it was extremely run down and old. Was very hot and the fan...

Hi Pchuong, I believe this is not the style of hotel you normally select. I looked at your other hotel reviews and they were all five star hotels you stayed in and you rated the highest at 4 dots, pretty tough. Yes, the original home was built in 1908 , so you could say that it is is dated, that...

I have stayed here at least 10 times. There is plenty of nature in the vicinity. There is no market nearby but close by taxi. Great to get away to relax and enjoy the family atmosphere. For the price you will not be disappointed. The employees will do their best to make you feel comfortable.

Hi Rionegro, fantastic having you as a repeat client, I really appreciate that and your fine review. On one point I have failed you , the central market is 4 blocks south and 5 blocks west. There is also a nice supermarket ( Auto Meracado ) two blocks south of the hotel. On Saturdays there is an organic farmers market...

Upon arrival, David checked me in. A very friendly guy and with my approval I got a room in the back which I like. The room is cleaned practically everyday and the breakfast is served in the restaurant with three choices. Fruits, coffee and more coffee plus a local mix of fruit drink. The front desk guys will recommend day...

The hotel is within easy walking distance to the centre of San Jose. When we arrived the area did look a bit dodgy and the taxi driver advised us not to walk about at night which was a bit off putting, but the area was ok I think he was just trying to get us to use taxis during our...

Hi Jayned66, Yes, we are only 4 blocks for central avenue, The National Theater, Gold Museum , Jade Museum , Central Market and many other sights all within a small walkable radius. You selected the economy room and as such they are, well the economy room. Your suggestion for just few dollars more is quite spot on for a larger...

We were a bit taken aback when we arrived at the hotel because the street looked a little dicey, however it is actually in a safe and convenient area. Lots of big chain hotels nearby, but this hotel has much more character. Were able to walk to everything we wanted to see. Saw the National Theatre, several museums, the Central...

Hola Minnesotraveler214, Hey that is a good move in the balcony room. The hotel only has tree of them so, it's nice and personal. Having never been to San Jose, we were elated to stay in such a nice place. Unassuming at first (buzz the attendant at the gate) the courtyard centered hotel is a former residence that gushes history. Secure parking is included. The spacious rooms are clean with large showers in the baños. Eat a nice breakfast around the pool before heading...
