Arrived at the hotel and blown away by its architecture . What a gem. And so well kept, not even a little dust, anywhere, there is none, everything is so clean. Rooms good size. Good comfortable bed. Love the historic photos all through this establishment. Lovely Jacuzzi to relax in if time permits. Staff accommodating and friendly. Hotel is in Good position. Recommended
Grano de Oro Hotel is a beautiful hotel. The architecture and interior design is unique and sophisticated. We drove past and were immediately greeted by someone wanting to help us park (which we really appreciated!). He helped us carry our bags up and was very helpful and polite. The check in (and check out) was easy and they let us check in a little early which we appreciated. The room was comfy and there was a complimentary mini bar with drinks and snacks which was a nice touch. The restaurant is beautiful and the food and drinks were good (although we would have liked to see more vegetarian options on the menu). It is an easy walk into the town from the hotel and the hotel has a secure car park. My husband was unwell whilst we stayed at Grano de Oro and at about 8:30pm we were in our room and this extremely loud music began playing (with a really heavy bass). We waited for about an hour and began to panic that it would go on all night so we called reception. We felt the reception were very unhelpful. I explained that my husband was unwell and that he really needed a good night's sleep and they essentially responded saying 'this music is from another property, it is not our problem' and so when I suggested we get moved to another room to help him sleep, the man on reception scoffed and said 'it would be the same everywhere in the hotel'. He then went on to say that it should be finished soon (which suggested it happened regularly) and luckily it did stop shortly after this but we felt the experience let the service down and not something you would expect from a 'luxury hotel'.…
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and really relaxing rooms and vibe. Restaurant menu is great and we eat here two nights. San Jose itself is perhaps more of a base city for getting to volcanos, jungle etc but if your base is this hotel, it’s wonderful.
Exceptional service, above and beyond expectations. Hats off to Marco Montoya, the manager. I had paper colones from years ago (I bought in Canada right before Covid for a trip that got cancelled) that were no longer in circulation. I would have had to go to the main bank downtown to get them exchanged but did not have the time or opportunity. I asked him if he would take them and he agreed. He went out of his way to make the exchange and deposit it into my account. I am truly grateful. Hotel Grano de Oro should be very proud to have him representing them. This hotel is BEAUTIFUL and super clean. Loved our stay there. A real gem in the heart of the city.
Wonderful boutique Hotel ( former Mansion). Front desk personnel were all top notch. Extremely, extremely helpful. Hotel is gorgeous and meticulously kept up. The in house restaurant does not disappoint and again, top notch staff. Our room was very cozy feeling yet spacious and had a great tropical feel to it.
We loved our 5 day stay at Hotel Grano de Oro. It had a charming, historical feel, with hallways filled with black and white photos of San Jose in the olden days. There were lush green plants, tropical flowers and even a fountain to admire along our way to our room. Our room had a ceiling fan plus airco. It had a table and chairs along with a desk that was tucked in an alcove. It had 2 windows that looked onto a private garden with plants, flowers and a water feature. The dining area had a lovely open-air courtyard with umbrellas and heaters for any time of the day, if you didn't want to eat indoors. The food was delicious. The service was great. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We would definitely return!
This is a charming hotel right downtown in San Jose. It was originally a villa which explains the beautiful wood work, stained glass windows and lovely courtyards. The staff is very helpful. I had issues with my phone after buying a Costa Rican SIM card and the young man at the desk went above and beyond to help me. We stayed there twice. One time our room was small but functional; the other time our room was larger. Both were clean and comfortable with lovely amenities such as complimentary pop, chips etc. and bathrobes which we used when we went to one of the two hot tubs.
Comfortable bed, clean room, and decent bathroom facilities. Front desk staff courteous and efficient but gave us incorrect information about a schedule change regarding our driver the next day (which was not a problem because the driver had texted us about the change with the correct information). Lousy views from the room. Outside traffic a little noisy. (Please see my restaurant review.)
We had an amazing stay at this quaint, boutique hotel on our trip to Costa Rica. All of the food we ate at the restaurant was delicious with top notch service. Our room was very comfortable and the people at the front desk were always very helpful. We will definitely stay here the next time we go to Costa Rica.
Lovely hotel with a great restaurant. We stayed 2 nights in a room with a courtyard garden. The room is small but very comfortable. Lots of top notch amenities with a very tastefully decorated bathroom. The shower floor is marble so caution advised. The garden is very peaceful in the evening when there is less traffic noise from the road. Our fountain did not work but we could hear the one next door. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We took taxis where we needed to go though the front desk said it was safe to walk the 25 minutes to downtown. Breakfast is served in the courtyard and there are lots of great choices. The dinner we had was excellent. We would stay here again.
