Nice locally owned and run hotel in a handy location, not a long walk into town to view some of the attractions. The breakfast buffet was small but I thought it was one of the tastiest pinto gallo I had in while in Costa Rica. Also there was a couple of good bars nearby which is always a bonus.

The architecture of this hotel is quite interesting. The rooms are old, and both times I stayed here my partner and I were in separate beds in the same room. I have to wonder if everyone here sleeps like it's in a '50's sitcom, five feet away from their partner. But the staff is very very friendly and professional. The...

The Hotel Don Carlos is in downtown San Jose. It is a pleasant walk from the National Museum and the Jade Museum, both of which are worth a visit. Each room is different; all with a unique sense of cultural history. Secure parking is available. We enjoyed our stay.

An old mansion plus an old house combined to create a very pleasant, well maintained hotel in a quiet neighborhood within easy walking distance of Avenida Central. Paintings and sculpture throughout the basically open air hotel. Rooms are spacious with old mahogany molding. A very tranquil, quiet, comfortable hotel - not modern, not a chain hotel. Very helpful, kind, English-speaking...

Stayed here for three nights at the start of a trip. While San Jose didn´t worth much time if you are here the Don Carlos is definitely worth a stay. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel is right near the centre. The staff were really helpful, providing advice on what to see, booking trips and getting taxis. The breakfast...

Recently stayed for four nights in Hotel Don Carlos, everything was perfect. The hotel receptionist was very welcoming upon greeting me. It was my first time in Costa Rica so he answered questions I had, exchanged currency for me, even gave me a map of San Jose to help me navigate around. I was charged the rate I agreed to...

We were there for one day/night. The staff were all very friendly. The hotel is very nice. The room was very comfortable. We had lunch and breakfast there. For Lunch we had nachos and 'Flautas' (different name) and they were very good. Breakfast was 'continental' style and was good. We will be going back there next week.

Although our flight landed at 9pm it was almost 11pm by the time we checked in as my luggage had somehow managed to go to Fort Lauderdale,Texas instead of San Jose. Thanks United Airlines-great start to our holiday after 2 long flights! We were checked in by a very laid back guy who I'm presuming was the night porter-no uniform or...

Booked this hotel for a family of four and stayed two nights - one at the beginning of the trip and one at the end. The hotel is located as close to downtown San José as you can get! Easy walking distance to lots of sights, but not like the big chain hotels. This hotel was used by past Presidents...
