The hotel is small but very colourful and interesting. After a long flight from the UK it was nice to be met by such friendly people and a comfortable bed to rest in. Breakfast was ample and tasty and we headed off. If staying more than one night, I’d be mindful that the noisy trans, seem to start running about 6am. Not a problem for us as it was just a one night stay. For the price and friendliness, I’d recommend this hotel.
Fantastic hotel with good location. Staff were super friendly and helpful with changing our dates when our flight was delayed. Rooms clean and comfy with a good shower. Breakfast was fantastic - the best papaya we have ever had! Thanks for a great trip.
Great Hotel, Amazing Staff, and Delicious Breakfast. I have 0 complaints about my experience. Everything was really clean and everyone I encountered were really nice! You truly forget were you are once inside. The neighborhood isn’t the greatest but the hotel is EXTREMELY secure. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in San Jose.
Casa 69 This hotel is very nice… it makes you feel like you are in a totally different area. The staff is AMAZINGLY nice and helpful! Breakfast is absolutely delicious and fresh. The decor of this hotel is so delightful. Would definitely stay here again and recommended.
Booking process : Everyone was nice except Kurt. I tried to practice my spanish but when I spoke spanish Winston replied in English. Justin was a cool dude. I have requested Kurt to reply in spanish to no avail. In general the staff was nice and courteous. The staff serving breakfast was excellent. Location : Awful . 30 meters from the railroad track. At 4:32 am every morning the first train pass by the hotel which is only 2 doors away. . My room floor shook for 3 seconds . The train use loud horns for every intersection . I stayed at a hotel 2 weeks before across from the Jade Museum. I could hear the horns but a bit more tolerable as it was a bit further away..This go on through the day until 9:00 pm or 9:30 pm. If you are a light sleeper , you might need to bring ear plugs just in case. Thr hotel is down a dilapidated street with not so pleasant ambience. The owner might say what they like to say to refute it but this is a fact and not an opinion. Room. Outside the bathroom window are barb wired which face the railroad track. The main window face the courtyard. Fortunately no one had an extended conversation . It has a one speed fan. The room is dated . ( aka old ). If you like antique furniture this place is for you. Cleanliness: The good: soiled toilet paper was emptied. Great. The Bad. I had to pile garbage in a corner as there was only one for the whole room. I don’t want to throw my empty coke bottle with dirty used toilet paper. The ugly : room floor was dirty. I scrubbed my flip flop right before I arrived at this hotel. 2 days later it was brown . I didn’t wear flip flop inside the room. I took it off the moment after I entered so I didn’t dirty the floors Breakfast : quite adequate. 2 rolls, butter , jams , all you can drink coffee , one glass of fresh juice. You have one choice( or no choice but one ) but you can get omelette for $6.00 more. After 2 days, hmm I am a bit bored with it. A big welcome: The black lab Violeta is the jewel of the house. She welcomed me when I checked in. Last night I came back after dinner and after I opened the door Violeta came and welcomed me. She made her rounds during breakfast greeting guests. She was just so welcoming. A nice touch. The fish pond with gold fish. I love them. Thank you : Two nights ago I needed to reheat my left over. The staff let loaned me a plate and let me used the microwave. Thank you. WiFi - works great , except in the toilet where it was a bit slow but that would get me out of sitting in the can for too long Summary. Hotel in general in city center generally cost more but I think in this case it is overpriced compared with that hotel across from Jade Museum and 2 doors to the right of restaurant The Wong Palace. I paid $15.00 less per night for an 1 room apartment , no breakfast with full kitchen, microwave oven and large fridge fan and air conditioner. It had a 25 foot ceiling . Filter drinking water from a dispenser🐻❄️. I inspected other rooms and it has a room , with modern decor for every budget. It even has a penthouse with a private terrace. I am not in any way associated to this hotel. San José doesn’t have much to see . In my opinion , 2 full days is more than enough . I spent 3 nights in one hotel and 3 in this one. I seldom write negative reviews . I am a career retired traveler. I read many reviews before booking a hotel. In general they all were what the reviewers said and it was , except this hotel. I have my own pet peeves like everyone else. Everyone in some way is “biased” to his/her preference. …
We cannot say enough nice things about this hotel and its excellent, friendly staff. Winston is the manager who speaks excellent English. Other staff seem to have less English, but we had no difficulty communication with our limited Spanish. Rooms are small, but well equiped and the beds (we had 2 different rooms on 2 visits) were very comfortable. Breakfast is sizeable, and served at a range of times. I was up early one morning, unable to sleep, and breakfast was being served at 5:30 am to a group of early risers! Winston is very helpful with recommendations, booking cabs and guides, and friendly chat. The 'Casa dog', Violetta, is a lovely black labrador retriever who does NOT bark at all; she was appreciated by many of the guests, but knew to stay away from those who did not approach her. All in all, a lovely little, quirky hotel We will return, for sure, next time we are in San Jose.…
We loved this place. We were taking classes in Heredia but wanted to stay in San Jose and this ended up being a great fit for us. We stayed for 9 nights and were very impressed with the staff, the service, the nice big room, and the location. The location itself can seem a bit odd at first, but it's short walk to Barrio Escalante which features many good and affordable restaurants. The people who work at Casa 69 are kind and helpful and very pleasant to be around. A few notes: As a rule, San Jose is very loud, and you will likely near earplugs anywhere you stay. Take advantage of the $30 airport pick-up as it's got to be cheaper and safer than using a random taxi. If you want to do laundry, ask if they can fit it in and I think they charge $15 for a load. If you are kind of a jerk who likes to find fault with everything around you I would not recommend Casa 69.…
I would be staying in San Jose for only 1 night and the ads for Casa 69 made it seem nice enough. Well I was pleasantly surprised for sure. From being greeted in person on my late evening arrival to the comfortable room. Finding out an Irish bar was literally next door was a nice bonus. Upon finishing my libations next door, I started to return to my room but noticed the rooftop patio. The view of the city was wonderful and being able to hear some music and laughter from far away made the balance of the evening even more enjoyable. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was delish, fresh fruit, coffee and traditional tico breakfast. The staff were all very pleasant. I'll glad return to Casa 69 on my next trip to San Jose.
We had a wonderful stay at this fine hotel. Centrally located within walking distance to restaurant scene and National Theater and Museum. Staff are excellent. Rooms large and comfortable. Including fine bed. Breakfast very nice. Good rooftop views. Would stay again if in San Jose.
We spent 2 nights at this sweet boutique hotel that is so different from any other hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean and the hotel feels like a little jungle lodge when you get inside. A gentle dog greets you in the lobby that feels like you’ve been invited into someone’s living room. The breakfast includes fresh fruit, eggs, coffee/tea and fresh bread right out of the oven. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were a little nervous parking our rental on the street so opted for the $10/nt private parking.
