Lots of food options in and around hotel. Rooms are quiet and comfortable. The staff in the restaurant are lovely and so kind to kids. We didn’t use the pool as it rained but it looked clean. I’d stay here again.

Our 14th floor room with Balcony was a great place to watch the huge fireworks show across the city. The large pool area on the 12th floor was also an ideal place to stand and watch.
The hotel had a New Year's Eve dinner, buffet, with lots of salads, mains, breads and desserts BUT, for the price, it was more expensive than an nice dinner at a sit down restaurant would have cost. Next year we'll go somewhere else.
The Hotel staff are very nice and the rooms are also very nice. There is a desk for those who need to get some work done.
The only negative - which could be a huge positive- is the pool is NOT heated. Great location, deck area, views across the whole valley and you put your toes into the water and it feels like ice water!
We will stay here again, but not plan on using the ice water pool.

I spent a week at this hotel and was struck by the abundantly friendly service that I received at all levels of the staff. (A shout-out to Bryan, Kembly, and Roberto in the restaurant). The room had great views of the mountains, and I was very happy that I paid extra to get a room with a balcony. The hotel is located west of the city centre in an upscale but not very exciting neighborhood. It took me about 50 minutes to walk to the downtown, but a taxi takes 10 minutes and costs US$10. The hotel has good security, only allowing registered guests to enter the building. The breakfast buffet was great, although I had to pay a supplement of US$10 for it based on the room rate that I got. Beyond breakfast, the restaurant was good but very pricey. I was able to get an airport transfer for US$35+tax each way.
The reason why I am not giving this hotel five stars is that I had some issues with the room. First, there is not sufficient lighting. I found the room to be creepily dark at night, as there were just too few light sources. The bathroom had the same problem. The basin had only a single pot light overhead, making shaving very difficult. While I loved the rainfall shower, I didn’t like the fact that the shower lacked a door and hence was partially open to the bathroom, resulting in lots of water getting on the bathroom floor. Issues like lighting and shower doors are things that I would assume that a chain like Hilton would have mastered already, but these issues were clear deficiencies for me. A few more things to mention. There is a small outdoor pool area. However, there were no umbrellas and no way to get shade while sitting in the pool area. I found the very LOUD music played in the hallway to be annoying. I’m glad that my room was far enough away from the speakers to not hear music playing all day. Lastly, the two elevators for the hotel had opposite arrangements of the room-floor buttons, and the numbers were difficult to see in both elevators. Why anyone would design the elevators this way is beyond me. Overall, I had a great stay at this hotel thanks to the amazing hospitality of the staff. The neighborhood is much nicer than the gritty downtown, but it is also far from the things you want to do in San Jose.

This hotel was clean, updated, and in a good location for us. The staff was helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. There were several nice amenities like the bar and fitness center that we took advantage of. I felt the value for the price was excellent and felt very safe and that the staff were taking all precautions regarding Covid 19.
The rooms had everything we needed including a roomy shower, make up mirror, fridge and coffee maker. Plenty of outlets for our devices and a great view. We were very pleased with our 2 night stay.

The Hilton Garden Inn La Sabana is in the heart of San Jose near the park that contains their soccer stadium. We stayed there only the first night of our two week trip through Costa Rica.
The Hilton is a high rise hotel with all the up to date facilities. Our room, 1808, was small but had a king bed, safe, TV, and mini fridge. The best part may have been the great view out a large glass window over the city. The room was certainly very modern and clean. Another nice feature was that all the controls in the room were sanitized and covered. My only complaint may be that the lighting was poor, but we found that to be the case throughout the country.
The receptionist was very friendly and check-in was fast and efficient. There were also a number of restaurants within walking distance.
The hotel has lots of features such as a pool, bar, and exercise room, but since we had only limited time, we did not get a chance to use them. We also had to leave before breakfast, so we can't comment on it. Bottom line is that the Hilton was very much what you would expect from a Hilton.

Just stayed for a second time at the Garden Inn - great hotel in a wonderful location. I arrived very early due to a flight change but the young man at the front desk was very accommodating and as a room was available, allowed me to check in right away. Service at the bar and in the restaurant was also good. Views across San Jose are awesome from the rooms and public areas - this is unlike any Garden Inn I have seen in the US - much more upscale. I’ll be back....

+1
We only stayed here one night, but enjoyed it nonetheless. The lobby is very pretty & has a nice little shop where I was able to get a burlap "Pura Vida!" bag since I had forgotten to bring a beachbag. The staff were friendly & very helpful, especially Joselyn. Our room was pretty high up so we had a great view of the city! We had a little trouble keeping the temperature consistent in the shower because of the sensitivity of the faucet, but that was the only issue. Note - the water in Costa Rica is safe to drink, which was a big relief! (Don't ask me what the water did to me in Mexico!!) Our room was very clean & smelled fresh. The bed was comfortable & the room was quiet, even with the A/C on. Oh - my husband was so excited to see fresh-baked cookies & flavored water in the lobby! The hotel is within walking distance to a lovely park & lots of great restaurants. We weren't scheduled to leave until late in the afternoon, so we appreciated them holding our luggage for us while we went out for the day.

Have you seen that Netflix show? "Restaurants on the edge"?
Basically the premise is that restaurants with great views have poor menus and service.
I only experienced that situation *once* when visiting Arequipa, Peru with my family and my brother INSISTED we eat at this place across from the central park because he was hungry. There were seven of us and none of us were able to finish our dishes. We learned to be more careful after that.
After seeing god knows how many Tiktoks talking about breakfast at the Hilton Garden Inn and its views, and my fair share of targeted ads, and because of the fact that I had some friends visiting and there were 5 of us and they were staying downtown, I decided to give this place a shot and went on their insta, used their Whatsapp channel yesterday to book a table and a bot advised that their Whatsapp only works on weekdays.
I hesitated a bit but decided to call and a Hilton agent greeted me with a tone that sounded "Im VERY busy, please be fast". I advised I saw the ads and wanted to make a reservation for the day and he quite "over it" advised that "We are booked solid until next month" and relayed a rate of 25000 colones per person, when online said $25 USD per person.
Now, please take this with a grain of salt, and I have absolutely no proof, but due to the fact of how the agent spoke to me, I thought perhaps I shouldve called in english (his greeting was in spanish, so I obliged) because as a costarican, many places treat you different based on your name, nationality or accent. Again, this is MY very subjective perception, but he scoffed when asked for the reservation in a tone that read as "You cant afford us" and didnt even ask for how many people was the party (there were five of us) nor gave us an available date.
After this, I was quite over it so I called other three places (Franco, Manos en la Masa and Marriott) and not only this three places were happy to accept walk-ins, but would accommodate our party of five.
At the end we went to Marriott because Ive been a customer for more than 10 years and they have impeccable service (and they make bellinis just for me, and the golf course view doesnt hurt) and had a blast, but after my experience yesterday, all we talked about whilst brunching was that Netflix show and how disappointed we were with our failed experience at Hilton.
Now, we werent even able to try the menu, but I go to Franco and Manos en la masa often, they do make everything from scratch, buy local and the quality is superb.
I think it would be smart for this hotel to step up their game and not only train their staff better, but perhaps hire more people? After my quick convo on their Whatsapp channel they replied on the same day (even though as per their bot its available only weekdays) and the person who replied identified himself as the same guy I spoke over the phone earlier. And guess what? I did not get a single apology from this person.
Overall, quite a mediocre experience. Proceed with caution.

The hotel is a moderately imposing building in the city center, and there are numerous eateries in the immediate vicinity. I can recommend the pizza from Pane e Vino, one of several options directly across the street.
The lobby is a number of floors above the ground floor, which only serves as the entrance. This could be to ensure that the hotel disposes of decent views in every direction. Indeed, though the room was adequate, it had an impressive view, which I imagine is the case with most, perhaps all of the rooms here. The shower was somewhat unbefitting a modern hotel, what with no handheld device and the lone shower head completely fixed directly overhead and with an invariable stream mode, so that one could do no more than turn the water on to the desired temperature. Plus, the shower stall was the kind that is only partly walled off, so that some water inevitably wound up on the floor. Shampoo, shower gel and conditioner were in dispensers. A shaving kit was only available for 2$.
I didn't care for wifi here. Whenever my phone wasn't in use, it automatically disconnected. As this is not normal, it would seem to have something to do with the hotel rather than the phone.
The lifts were also a bit slow. Two may not be enough for a hotel of this size, especially when, as on the second day, one of them was not working.
Breakfast was good. For the vegan, hot dishes included rice and beans, platanos and hash brown patties (assuming no butter or eggs).
The gym, open 24 hours, was under-equipped. Three treadmills, three cross trainers, two stationary bikes, a stretching machine, adjustable pulleys, a standalone bench and dumbbells up to 50 lbs was it. At least there is a nice view to be had, but as noted, that is probably the case from any point in the hotel.
What I found annoying at this hotel was that in the sixth rainiest country on earth (says Wikipedia, and it was easy to see why), a hotel that purports to be of reasonable quality does not have umbrellas for its guests. Not in the room, not at reception, and not with the concierge. It limited my ability to get around, and ultimately induced me to cancel a separate reservation I had for two days later.
Three stars is it.

Great hotel! Sadly we only stayed here 1 night but the hotel is in a great location. Excellent views, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Very serious about their sanitizing procedures so if you are worried about traveling, they got you covered. The food in the restaurant is outstanding. One of the best meals we had during our whole vacation in Costa Rica! Would highly recommend
