Detailed Reviews
We stayed in a 1 Bedroom Beachfront (Room 202) which was awesome - there are only 3x 1 Bedroom Beachfront Villas that are definitely worth the extra cost from the Lagoonview or Studio/Garden villas. We had a few hours of rain one day and it was great being able to sit on our sheltered patio with an incredible beach/lagoon view.
Room had everything you needed - fridge, hairdryer, umbrellas, coffee pod machine and the standard AC + ceiling fans and a huge bathroom.
SUPs, kayaks & bikes are all provided free of charge. It’s a short 10 minute bike ride into town with cafes and stores located along the way.
Restaurant was good for breakfast and lunch but the dinner options were not the best and we weren’t advised we needed to book a table so we opted to eat at Pacific Resort most nights which is a 5 minute walk along the beach or $10pp return taxi if weather isn’t too good.
All staff were super friendly and helpful!
Tamanu is in the best location I feel - the beach is immaculate with great all day swimming/snorkelling conditions and there was never really any wind.
Pacific Resort Aitutaki is a nicer resort in terms of pool/restaurant/bar/facilities but you couldn’t snorkel there as they get all day wind being located on the point

We just spent a lovely 4 nights at the Tamanu Beach Resort on Aitutaki to round our 3 week trip to the Cook Islands. There are two sections to this resort just separated by one large lot and house in between. One section was closed for renovations so when we were booking we were offered an upgrade to a one bedroom for the same price. This was a wonderful accommodation, just about one villa off of the beach and right beside the pool. It was a very functional unit with air con which worked pretty well, outdoor and indoor showers, a small fridge and TV. This is a family owned business and all the front office staff including Nick the manager, make you feel like it's all about you. The restaurant on site is really quite good, however their customer service could use some work. (In talking with Nick I get that it is hard to find the quality of staff he would like on such a small Island). Also, don't hesitate to take in Island Night on Thursday. Even though we had seen a big production on Raro, this had a more local feeling with more kids and a family feel. Highly recommend a relaxing stay at Tamanu Beach.

We stayed at Tamanu Beach for one week. The resort is located on the western seaward side of the main island of Aitutaki. It is at beach level, allowing easy access, and we were snorkelling within 5 minutes of arrival. The snorkelling is good and gets better further out from the beach. A buoy (about 1/2 way from the beach to the outer reef) marks some giant clams. The staff are delightful, very friendly and helpful. The resort is clean. Our bungalow was spatious with large longe containing a single bed, bedroom with double bed, and good sized bathroom. There was also a private external shower. Take block for the few mosquitoes. Dress code appears tidy casual. Allowing the Aitutaki is relatively distant, the quality of the food was very good. The resort is within walking and cycling distance of the CBD, and many restaurants, cafe's, and churches. Scooter and car hire is available but book ahead. Likewise, book early for the lagoon cruises (recommend The Vaka Cruise), and diving with Onu.

Four nights here was so good for the soul.
The included pick up at the airport was smooth and greeted with flower lais. Arived 6 mins later at the accomodation and check in was smooth with a welcome juice. Rooms were ready for us even tho it was 11 am and check in is 2pm
Our room was big and airy with californian King bed and single bed bought into the lounge area for 3rd person. Bathroom was big and well apointed and opened up to the outdoor shower which was great for getting snad and sunscreen off before heading inside. The balcony off the lounge area was also spacious with a king single sized outdoor day bed and table and chairs
All units have a sea view and the beach front ones are primo spots but cost more I believe. We were the furtherest from the beach in room 206 but still had a sea view
There are two pools (one family friendly and one adults only) but we did not use either as the beach was so inviting and clean with free kayaks and paddle bords to use.
The restaurant is open air and inviting and there is breakfast buffet available as well as cooked breakdfast off the menu all included in room price. The island cultural night with impressive all you can eat buffet and dancing and fire show is worth the $75 per person.
The staff at reception are quick and knowlegdeable and happy to book anything for you and also there is a bar right in reception with a happy hour and happy to take walk ins that are not guests.
We took a couple of complementay bikes and cycled to the nearest shop for supplies and discovered the local takeaway place that does good pizzas and meat wraps if you do not wnat to dine in the resort restuarant each night it is a good budget option.
This place is family run and it shows. You will see them around each day always ready to chat or give you a wave.
Only thing missing was a few more loungers required on the beach as everyone wanted to be there, but my kids were happy to lie in the warm sand too.
Cannot reccomend this accomodation highly enough. We will be back and stay longer next time

My husband & I spent the long weekend in Aitutaki and stayed at Tamanu Beach Resort. We managed get a great package they have been running locally given the borders being closed and we were in for a real
treat. There was just us and another group staying and so it was so quiet and serene the whole time we were there. The staff (from airport transfers, to check in, to restaurant, to bar) were friendly and helpful. There was a mix up at check in as they had us booked in the following weekend (we had changed our original booking) but Tamara sorted us with no issues and gave us a free drink on the house. We stayed in Villa 206 which is closest to the front desk (& probably least private when the resort is full) but it suited us perfectly well, it was close to our scooter, still had a great a view of the beach & we could play our music & have a few cocktails without disturbing the other group (who were doing the same no doubt!!). The room was fantastic, airconditioned & with a beautiful outdoor shower which I used every night. They also had movies on a USB stick, books & a fridge which we kept snacks in. On Saturday after our lagoon cruise we hit the bar for a few cocktails..was really making the most of it! Cooked breakfast was included and tided us over for pretty much the whole day, but we did go out for lunch & dinner to other places(Boatshed, Koru Cafe & Mango Takeaway). Sunday we jumped on the paddle boards & did some snorkeling in front of the hotel and we really felt like we were on the best holiday. We had a really wonderful time there, we definitely made the most of it having a luxury resort pretty much to ourselves - a once in a lifetime experience. We had previously stayed at Pacific Resort Aitutaki last trip to Aitutaki and can honestly say we enjoyed our time more at Tamanu, only wished the Spa had been opened but for next time! Thanks for a fabulous time Tamanu.

The fact that transport to and from the airport is included in your stay is a really nice touch (although we felt we left too early for our departing flight).
Our time at Tamanu Beach started with the Sunday BBQ Buffet. It was nice to eat close to home and it was a really good value with some local dishes. Sadly, no entertainment.
We had a 1 bedroom and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor shower & day beds. Our view was more of the pool than lagoon but we did see the water through the trees. Bungalow it's self was fine, yes some fixtures were a bit old but all in working order. Bed and pillows were comfortable. This space could easily fit more than 2 adults.
This location really is one of the best on the island. Our friends were at Aitutaki Private Lagoon and had terrible wind & were quite isolated in terms of location. Tamanu Beach is amazing!! SUP, kayaking and bikes provided, no snorkels due to covid but great fish & marine life with healthy coral. We thought this was an adult only venue however there were some children during our stay. We had breakfast provided and were allowed to order anything off the menu so much better than continental buffet provided at other hotels. Also, there are 2 wings of the hotel so if you can't find any lounge chairs, bikes or kids are being loud, walk to the other side
:)
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again!! In the times of Covid, I thought service was great & stay was relaxing.

Tamanu Resort was the perfect place to stay for a week on stunning Aitutaki. The rooms are beautifully designed and the 1 bedroom lagoon view is perfect for a family. Our teenagers stayed on single beds in the main room and we were able to have our own space behind pocket sliding doors. The bathroom is lovely but I chose to use the outdoor shower daily. The boys left their phones in Auckland so we played many a game of cards on the generous covered balcony. There is a TV (now with a few local channels, thanks Nick) and also a selection of movies on a usb drive. We used their free bikes to ride around the island, hired scooters from the resort and did a lagoon tour which was a must. The location of the bures, is perfect, we stayed in 209 close to the pool which was nice to cool off in while reading my book. Its worth doing the Island night and or the fire dancing evening. The food was mostly pretty good, and the manager Nick was great, we loved hearing about his family connection.
The beach and snorkeling are immense, we saw giant puffer fish, colorful fish, moray eels and giant clams right off from the beach.
We loved our time so much we are booking a week again next year

We ran a few marine science workshops here - a fantastic venue. Staff were helpful and friendly at all times. The rooms are remarkable, spacious with a real attention to detail, the most remarkable being the outdoor shower, great after an early morning snorkel. Breakfast was excellent with a lot of choice and the evening meals varied and delicious. What a wonderful hotel, I hope I have the chance to visit again.

This is a family owned business, with evident pride and care. Nick, the owner, went out of his way to make guests feel welcome. We really appreciated his love and knowledge of Aitutaki. The facilities are good, but they've seen a little wear and tear over (I assume) the last two years with limited tourism. No doubt Nick will ensure everything is soon shipshape.
Fantastic location with brilliant, safe snorkelling for the family. As a bonus, they have a float moored in the lagoon (the kids spent hours out there doing flips into the water and just lounging). Brief bicycle ride to local shops and restaurants.
Really enjoyed the bungalow design: outdoor shower, inner and outer rooms emptying onto a porch. Great touches (including beautiful woodwork).
Oh, and they lady who picked us up and returned us to the airport was a special treat - all joy and smiles. Nice way to arrive and depart from this very special island.

We spent a week here and loved it, the villas are spacious and comfortable. We got 2 villas for 5 adults, this place is definitely set up more for couples as the extra bed was a single bed in the living area. The restaurant had great food we especially loved bbq night. The staff were so helpful always happy to give advise, and book in activities. You can also hire scooters onsite making life easy! We loved stepping out onto the beach and being able to snorkel and enjoyed the paddle boards and kayaks available on the beach. Overall a really pleasant stay!

When we stayed at Tamanu Beach, there was no construction noise at all or we did not hear it. We were there in June/July. Oh we had such a blast - we want to go back again in 2024. Tamanu is back on our travel list!
Kia orana, We do not have a kids club at this stage. We have only recently opened to families and are still considering other services for this market. We can provide a babysitting service upon request.
Yep, great snorkelling off the beach. About 50m out is great in and around the outcrops.
About 150m offshore (still only 1.5m deep) is some giant clams.
We do have a bar on site...presently we do not beach side service but this can be requested of our restaurant staff. Simply come to the bar make your order let them know where you are on the beach and they can call by every 15mins or so to check .
Meitaki atupaka,
Nick
