Good bed room (carpet was a bit smelly though) and comfy bed. Good restaurant with excellent portions and tasty food. Excellent car parking across the road. Quiet street even on a Saturday night. Having to pre-order the breakfasts the night before was a bit unusual considering that these were actually served in the restaurant.

Greetings TB321go Thank you for taking the time to write a review on us. We are glad that we met your expectations. Pre-ordering the breakfast the night before is to ensure that guests get their cooked breakfast piping hot and their continental breakfast fresh and on time too. Many of our guests are from the corporate sector. In the morning,...

We found there was only a $NZ25 difference a night between a standard room and a de luxe room. We booked the larger room and were well pleased with it. It is one-half of the room that Queen Elizabeth stayed in 63 years ago. The Grosvenor has slowly declined since that time. It still has grand architecture and heaps of...

We recently booked the small conference room for a birthday party celebration. We had a 60's theme and had access to the venue earlier in the day. With the addition of a lot of black and gold helium balloons, ribbons, a banner and photo board the room was ready. We used Spotify and our own CD player and speakers and...

This place was the best value surprise of our trip. We were upgraded to a huge room with a king-sized bed, two leather couches, and hilarious/unique blue mood lighting. The place has a unique character, with a vintage elevator, and quirky artwork/painting on the walls and staircases. Also, the attached restaurant/bar was delicious. We did notice after checking out that...

On a trip to Timaru we decided to stay ant the "Grand Old Lady" of the south, the Grosvenor Hotel, I knew there was some history and abit of Character to this property - looking at its website I was intrigued as to what to expect once there. There was some funky art in places (some a bit strange) giving...

Greetings HapiTraveller57 A happy camper meant that a happy hotel crew too. Yes, we tried to imagine how The Grosvenor would have looked like when Her Majesty stayed in 1954. The lift that you used was both loved and hated on equal measures but for history enthusiast, The Grosvenor was ahead of its time. Thank you for sharing your story....

Stayed at The Grosvenor for one night in a Superior Room. The old building certainly is striking, with lovely architecture and loads of history, including the distinction of having once been accommodation for HRH Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during a visit to New Zealand. The lobby and hallways have been updated with colourful, geometric designs; some walls have...

what a lovely old building externally-lots of character. After a very friendly and quick check in we used the lift-a taste of bygone days which is i think partly what this hotel is about. The corridors are quirky decorated but the room was lovely-very mute colours, comfy bed with crisp sheets, lovely bathroom with fluffy white towels. This hotel is very handy for the shops...

I recently booked in to The Grosvenor for two nights. I was very happy. It is a great old hotel and a landmark in Timaru. The rooms are clean. Bathroom was immaculate. I was there for two relatively cold evenings and the room was heated well. This hotel provides true value for money as it is not an expensive place...

Booked on line and all looked satisfactory until we were given our room. Rooms, corridors etc old, dated and had that stale smell. Absolutely nothing like the pictures in the web site. Another couple walked out just prior to us as well.Very disappointing and totally false advertising.

Located in the center of Timaru, this hotel surprises with a colorful decor, which in our case culminated in a pop-art like painting of a cigar-smoking goose that loomed above the double bed, and a blue disco-light stripe along the panorama window onto the parking lot. The above said, the bed was very comfortable (and in the end that is...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Grosvenor has a penchant for authentic and unique design. Although we have been called a boutique hotel and a hip hotel, we're not sure what that really means. We're a little modern, and a little bohemian. Featuring an on-site restaurant and bar, The Grosvenor Hotel Timaru offers boutique & funky accommodation. Our accommodation offers feature art by local and international artists, throughout the hotel. You might stay that The Grosvenor is Timaru's Home of Modern Art (HoMA). With 44 rooms which are eco-friendly, sustainable and have green elements, like vintage furniture, low-VOC paints and recycled materials throughout. All accommodation has an ensuite with hairdryer, ironing board & iron, tea & coffee making facilities, complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi and TV. Fridges are available on request. Guests can enjoy dining in our fantastic restaurant which is now a Timaru institution, TGB (The Grosvenor Bar) is located in a one of a kind historical building with dramatic high ceilings, nostalgic exposed brick and modern touches. Whet your appetite with local, regional and international beers and cider. Then enjoy innovative tavern fare including traditional roasts, urban burgers, fresh salads, wrap, artisanal sandwiches and many other Kiwi favorites. ... more   less
