Hengoed is in a prime location, close to the centre of the ancient town of Newport, Pembrokeshire. The accommodation is stylish, clean and comfortable; affordable luxury. Our breakfasts are an optional extra, a leisurely affair, a feast of local produce. Brian is a Welsh speaking native of Newport and between us we have an immense knowledge of the local area, we can help you discover our area. We are recessed off the A487 with good free parking. From the front door you can follow a footpath down to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and explore the Nevern Estuary, the Parrog and the beaches. Or walk the other way and in less than two minutes you will be standing outside the Golden Lion, a pub with an exceptional restaurant, continue up the road and you will see Newport Castle, St Mary's Church, a selection of shops and more cafes and taverns. Newport, Pembrokeshire is small and beautiful.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed here while walking the Penbrokshire Coast path and we had a wonderful stay. The house is clean, the food excellent, and the hosts welcoming. Would recommend this as a great place to stay

We arrived later than expected and were welcoming by the lovely owners and shown to our room. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortably. The breakfast was of high quality and set us up for a good day's activity in the area. I would highly recommend this B and B and will most certainly be coming back.

I stayed for a full week and wished that I could have stayed longer.
When you stay at Cath & Brian's B & B you are simply invited to share their home. They are the perfect hosts, friendly and so knowledgeable about the local area.
Breakfast, mainly locally sourced, is plentiful, beautifully prepared, and with the most fantastic breads, all served in the conservatory looking out over their lovely garden.
Their is a large comfortable lounge with TV and comfortable chairs. On a particularly wet day, my family who were camping locally were invited in to use the lounge and watch T V, and use the tea/coffee making facilities. That's the sort of people your hosts are, nothing too much trouble.
I stayed in Room 1, comfortable well appointed with a lovely en-suite shower room.
The amazing thing is that Cath & Brian only started doing this a couple of years ago. You would think that they were old hands at it.
Just need an excuse to return as soon as possible.

A very pleasant B&B on the edge of this village, it’s only a very short stroll to the centre but being tucked down a side road it’s quiet and peaceful with no passing traffic. You can also walk along the estuary to the beach in 15-20 minutes or so. There is limited parking on the drive, or failing that on the road outside which being a small cul-de-sac should not present any problems. Newport is a lovely village with four decent pubs as well as a couple of restaurants, and we were very pleased that we only ended up staying here as we couldn’t find anywhere in Fishguard.
The room was a very good size, although with a sloping ceiling on each side as it’s built up in to the roof. Velux windows on either side provide plenty of light and/or air. It was all very clean and tidy and the shower was a good size and very powerful. There was also a good selection of shampoos, conditioners and such like which makes a pleasant change from the usual single generic option. Although tea and coffee making facilities were provided, unusually there were no biscuits provided, and the room was not made up either so we rather unexpectedly came back to an unmade bed.
The couple running it were very friendly and helpful, as was the cat (friendly, not helpful!) who was invariably asleep in the sun outside our bedroom door. Breakfast was an optional extra which is perhaps also unusual in this type of establishment, and you can choose between the continental at £5 per person of the cooked for £7.50 (note that their website incorrectly calculates the breakfast cost on a per room basis, not per person). We opted for the continental which was the usual selection of prepared fruit, yoghurts, cereals and bread. All in all, I thought this was a lovely place to stay and very good value.

I knew from speaking to Cath on the phone when we booked that we would like staying here. This is a gorgeous part of Wales, we booked two rooms to stay in town for my cousins wedding. My sister and her fiancé had the downstairs room which has a kitchenette attached (and where dogs are allowed) and hubby and I had a very large room upstairs. Both rooms had a nice modern ensuite, big comfy beds and were decoratively very smart and tidy. Well stocked with the things you forget, I'd forgotten make up remover so was very pleased to find there was a handy pack of wipes in our room. It's little touches which make this a special place to stay, it's super laid back, come and go as you please. Cath can recommend places for breakfast and where to visit while you're there. The local beach is fab, and we live in Devon so that's high praise! We all left hoping to return soon.

We could not wish for a better nor well provided for apartment. We were delighted and enjoyed a great stay. The owner was extremely generous and helpful. They even helped with preparations for our daughters wedding nearby. Thank you. Dave & Margaret

We stayed three nights at Hengeod this week and had a really nice time with Brian and Catherine as Hosts. They made us extremely welcome and kept us entertained with local tales and suggestions on where to visit.
We would thoroughly redcomend this B&B for your stay in Newport.

while Catherine was gone on holiday, Alex took care of me for my one night stay. She couldn't have been more warm, welcoming and friendly to a lone walker on the Permbrokeshire Coast Path. The small, compact town of Newport reflects the ambiance of this wonderful B&B.

The fabulous warm welcome started before I arrived with no-nonsense helpful directions from Brian over the phone to avoid the tiny roads recommended by my trusty Satnav! To be greeted with a refreshing cuppa was wonderful.
In my opinion Brian and Cath have thought of everything to make the stay comfortable and relaxed. Lovely single room with private bathroom - even a bathrobe was provided - delicious breakfast in the conservatory looking onto the pretty garden, almost too much to list here.
If you have time, take Cath's advice as I did and try Blas in Newport for lunch - or even tea and cake!
I hope I can return- next time I will definitely try the cooked breakfast.

Staying in the self catering room over the New Year period, we found this to be a perfect place to be. Cath and Brian are welcoming hosts for whom nothing is too much trouble; coming back in the evening to find the log fire burning was a delight! The room was ideal for ourselves and the kitchenette is large and well equipped. In terms of location, the house is only 100m or so from the liveliest pub but is unaffected by noise.
