Stayed at The Golden Lion for 2 nights on a Dinner Bed and Breakfast offer. We were travelling with our large Weinmarraner Honey and to say it was enjoyable was an understatement. The room was ⁵excellent on the ground floor with a back entrance making it easy to pop outside for any calls of nature without travelling through the main building. TGL is dog friendly so we were able to eat in the bar in the evening which suited us fine and also breakfast they made us a area off the bar so we could take her with us they even gave her a dish with her own sausages in. The food was superb we ate there both nights and as the food was locally sourced the quality was excellent. The same for the breakfast all locally sourced. The Staff were very friendly kind and attentive nothing was to much trouble. We will be visiting again in the future as we found our stay excellent value for money and throughly enjoyable.Thank you all for a great break.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 days. Without doubt it was Covid-19 secure and they had protocols which made you feel entirely safe at all times. The room was really nice and we had all the amenities we needed. It was comfortable and totally clean. The breakfast was really good with an excellent choice on offer. We ate in the evenings as well and again it was really nice. Newport is a good base as it allowed us easy access to New Quay, Cardigan, Fishguard and St Davids. We also enjoyed the walk along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path from Newport Bay. There are stunning cliff views.

I spend much of my time in hotels on business so it made a change to take a short holiday break to Newport and the Golden Lion Hotel. Admittedly the perfect weather helped but I can't speak highly enough of this hotel. We stayed 3 nights on a 3 for 2 deal B&B and it was the best value break we've had in a long time. The room, facilities, food and location were faultless but the jewel in the crown, that the owners can be really proud of, are the staff. Every one of them were a joy to speak to and without exception went out of their way to make us welcome.
We will return as soon as we possibly can.

Firstly the staff were very polite and helpful on arrival as were the breakfast staff. we were immediatley shown to our room. The overwhelming smell of bleach hit us immediatley we entered the corridor and our room, we had to spray perfume several time to hide it!
Lack of quality toiletreries, especally for the cost of the room and the amount supplied. the room was eye clean (but not dusted to a high standard or marks on skirting and walls removed) The window frames were mouldy and the grout also in the batroom and shower. The sheet didn't even fit the bed and was initially covered up by the pillows. The pillow case was marked by previous guest even as it seemed laundred. Breakfast was ok but I have seen better, no pastries both days of our stay ..told by waitress 1st day and 2nd day told they would be available the following day but not good enough as we weren't staying 3 days !! not what other reviews had lead us to believe about amzing breakfast.
To conclude our stay was most disapointed as I always book l places that are either as good as home or better and this was neither. Hard earnt money spent with great disapointment. Promised alot gave nothing.

The Sunday lunch was excellent and well worth the many miles of detour we made in order to enjoy the food at the Golden Lion once again.
The roast beef was so tasty and the variety, quantity and quality of the veg first class.
The staff also gave us a great welcome and service.
Thank you for a real treat.

My wife and I together with our young retriever Holly recently stayed at this charming but lively little gem of a hotel.
The room was great and conveniently located with a dog in tow!
The food was of a very high quality with a menu that offered something for everyone. we ate there 3 nights and wish had been for all 4!
It has a typical pub atmosphere and they have recently completed extensive work outside to increase the dining capacity and make a great outdoor experience!
But what made the stay extra special was the service provided by a young but efficient, super friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us and Holly!
Hats off especially to Claire and Magda who kept tabs on everything in this busy but very well-run Hotel.
Thanks guys....
John

Lovely room but, pillows were lumpy and hard. They did change one but it was still very hard. Slept without any in the end. Neck ached for three days after.
Bath had no slip mat. After having shower room was drenched in condensation. Toilet paper was wet floor was wet, all my toiletries were wet. Window was open and fan on. Next day we put the shower on lower power and kept the door open. Better.
Gave payment card on line when booking and gave it in as you do when we left and they mistakenly took payment twice which they corrected later when realising their mistake.
Breakfast was good though and coffee Teifi was delicious.

Appalling! They’re so concerned with takeaways that they forgot my meal. By the time it arrived my family had finished. The ‘garden’ with it’s black painted fence panels has all the atmosphere of a shed. Don’t bother eating here unless you like sloppy service and being ripped off.

Their new and improvised takeaway menu adds some extra jazz to the food options available in Newport! We ordered a beef burrito and the southern fried chicken, both were tasty. The portion of sweet corn was slightly disappointing and the crunchy slaw that comes with the chicken ended up being left over noodle vegetables, but the chicken and fries were great.
Safe pick up service also!
Thank you 😊

After a long day travelling we called in here for an evening meal. We ordered two soft drinks - a coke and a lemonade - and the cost was £11.10 which is well over priced. We decided that we would stop for food but they didn't seem too enthusiastic about giving us a table but then said we could sit at a small table near the door. The menu seemed as pricey as the drinks but when the food arrived the portions were huge. The food was good but I had to take the batter off the fish as it was too greasy for me. The staff seemed to move people from table to table and a couple had been moved 3 times whilst we were there. There reasoning behind this was the table had been booked so why not put a reserved sign on the table instead of asking people to move all the time as the couple who were moved 3 times said they wouldn't come back. I don't think I would return here due to the cost of the drinks.
