I stayed at the Sugarshack for 2 nights. Didn't spend much time at the backpackers as I was attending an event but the space is very beautiful as it is right by the beach. Shops nearby and very nice restaurants not too far away. All in all a nice place to stay if you are looking for a chilled out... More

The hostel is perfectly located on the beach but is surrounded it by a dodgy area. You are warned upon arrival to only go right when you leave the hostel ad not left. This was proved by the girl who was mugged on the beach (to the left) late at night. This isn't the hostels fault and I wouldn't want... More

The views are splendid, the atmosphere laid back and the shacks cleaned regularly. The shower was warm and the toilets kept pristine. Not for light sleepers though as the vibey next door pub keeps jamming till all hours. Extra blankets would have helped since it was a cold night. Worth the money.

I stay for about three days in Sugarshack. The place is located opposite the beach in East London. I enjoyed to be in one of the shacks, they're very picturesque, confortable and in the middle of bush vegetation. We can find places to eat about 10 minutes walking but a SPAR supermarket is closer, if you opt for it. The... More

Staff is really cool and the place is beach front however there is not much to do around and the hostel itself is not big. I think they could take more advantage of the place, make some tours, have some new ideas... A mouse showed up in my room which shows is not very clean. But yes for one night... More

Sugarshack backpackers was awesome. The staff was so friendly, and were able to help with anything we needed. Very cool location, and close to the beach. The little rooms were like huts, but had everything we needed. I would definitely go back as it was perfect value for money.

The place was quite disappointing. Not at all what I expected. Its close to the beach so the atmosphere is very calm at night. The rooms were clean but very tiny, hardly any space for movement. Friendly lady at the reception. Showers very dirty and disgusting!

We were in transit in the city of East London and were happy to find this cheap and relaxing place were you can enjoy the sea landscape. We rent a chalet, very basic but with comfortable bed. I recommend it.

Thanks to Pk for the excellent service! The place has all the basics in facilities and finishes, all laid out in close proximity to the dorm. The ocean is literally right on your door step, and the shops are within a short walking distance. You have GOT to eat from the Windmill while you are there- their food is amazzing,... More

Friendly staff but the place is very basic and has seen better days. With so somy fabulous backpackers in South Africa, the Sugarshack can not compete anymore. We slept in one of the wooden shacks outside for R 290 but you can find the same standard for R 200 in other backpackers. Poor mattraces and pillows. Further, there are no... More
