This has to be the worst. The staff were disinterested, the room was grubby, leaking toilet, broken basin pedestal, torn and frayed bed base cover, broken and bent curtain tie backs. Low quality coffee and creamer - the tray was even cracked. Cracked and chipped crockery in the breakfast room The list is endless! And all this for over R1200...

I attended a 3 day conference. The place is nice but is starting to age. The parking was a bit of a downside. The conference I was attending was huge and every morning you have to wait outside in a long questions because each car must fill in the register and get a slip. Other venues just scan you licence...

Odd deluxe room....Deck overlooked the highway...... had a conference table with dryboard beside two velvet wing chairs with budda framed fireplace. Then large bedroom with comfortable bed, leather couch and coffee table and makeup table. Very large closets. Bath with great bathtub and shower. A little noisy as directly across small pond from highway. Buffet had a couple of tasty...

The chef takes pride in both the presentation and taste of the food, the kingklip for mains and eskimo pie as dessert is recommended. Stayed in the family room, room was beautifully set up. Close to sports club and mall.

I spent the 25 and 26 April at a conference at this venue. An overall the experience was fairly pleasant. Venue: Overall the venue was very clean and suited our requirements. The bathrooms were also kept relatively clean the two day I spent there. There was also adequate parking and free Wi-Fi in all the venues Food: The tea that...

What a terrible stay at this hotel, I attended a two day conference and also stayed over at the hotel for two nights. There was no hot water and no communication from anyone as to what the problem may have been. When we approached the unprofessional, unfriendly and unhelpful staff members on duty they appeared to be more upset at...

This hotel makes money from big contracts and conferences... I stayed for a week and the list of complaints I have would be too long. I can understand places that need infrastructure upgrades that may cost money but my chief grip is the training and attitude of the staff! They do not know what is happening in the hotel. In...

Helpful friendly staff which was very welcoming to our varied group of LGBTI activists. Menu very repetitive but food is good. Waiters very slow with drink orders. Was happy with the standard of my room. Great conference facilities with Wifi both in the conference rooms and bedrooms fast and always accessible. Stunning view - right on the banks of Middle...

I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights with a large group of colleagues for a job. The reception staff were still very friendly and helpful, One receptionist even remembered me from the previous stay a year ago, which of course made a very good impression. But the dining room staff, who only have to serve drinks, were rather overwhelmed....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lakes Hotel and Conference Centre, only 10 kilometres from Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport, is on the banks of the Benoni Natural Lakes and adjacent to the Benoni Lakes Golf Club. It is a recent addition to the growing African Sun portfolio of hotels in South Africa. In an impressive setting, its 144 rooms and conferencing facilities (including wireless internet) for up to 500 delegates make it an ideal “escape” from the central business districts of Sandton and Johannesburg, only 40 kilometres away. On site tennis courts, swimming pool and, unusually, water skiing facilities, are complemented by the nearby golf course, bowling greens, squash courts and even horse-riding facilities. And the Emperor’s Palace Casino is only 8 kilometres away! The Lakes is now looking to capitalize on its unique location (a short drive from South Africa’s main gateway, O.R. Tambo International Airport, and in close proximity to the biggest commercial and business centre in Africa…Johannesburg) by attracting the tourist and leisure traveller. While not neglecting its main focus (an efficiently run conferencing facilities in a country setting) its location on the banks of Benoni’s natural lakes and, uniquely for a Johannesburg hotel, offering water skiing facilities makes it a natural playground for “get away from it all” urbanites and foreign visitors alike. Its 144 fully-serviced en-suite rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with satellite television and tea and coffee making facilities. The seven-days-a-week laundry service is a boon for guests arriving after overnight flights from all over the world, as is the 18-hours-a-day room service. A la carte dining and a traditional African Sun breakfast buffet cater to all tastes and the Sundowner Bar, overlooking the lake, is a popular spot for that pre-dinner cocktail or later nightcap. With airport transfers easily arranged, The Lakes Hotel and Conference Centre is an ideal introduction for visitors to South Africa and an even more ideal location for a short or long weekend stay, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. ... more   less
