We loved Essenwood House! Huge gorgeous old house, beautiful bedroom, lovely view of Durban and the garden, hosts were friendly but unobtrusive, good breakfast, convenient location... I will definitely always try to stay there when I'm in Durban.

We only you had 1 night to spend in Durban on our travels and we're very thankful we stayed here. This was a lovely British Colonial style home with a pool in the back. We stayed in the upper room with a veranda overlooking Durban & the ocean. We had an issue with our cab driver knowing where the restaurant... More

Very nice hosts. Very good location in leafy and classy area of town , overlooking Durban and with easy access to the city centre. Very good accomodation with spacious rooms and bathrooms. Nice colonial property : much better than it looks like in the pictures.

We were allowed an early check-in which we appreciated. Make sure to ask for the cheese and cold meat plate at breakfast, given that this is not provided without asking for it. We stayed in the upstairs room with the verandah and the views were great - as promised.

Thank you so much for your kind review, We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, especially the monkeys which unfortunatly are a pest!! The cheese and cold meats always available, we do not keep them out as they tend to get stale if out of the fridge, but full breakfast always available, Hope to see you... More

We chose Essenwood due to its proximity to the stadium (we came for the rugby) and wanted a nice place with a garden. We were not let down and felt privileged to stay at colonial style house with fantastic views over the city and to the sea. The breakfast was very good and the hosts John and Paddy made you... More

Returning to my hometown means having to choose between old haunts and new spots. I went for the latter and was very pleased as Essenwood House is in a great location and is very comfortable. My room (#2) on the ground floor was very large and the bathroom sported a shower and tub. One walks out into the garden and... More
