#5 of 144 Speciality lodging in Hoedspruit
KwaMbili Game Lodge provides an authentic safari experience at an affordable price. KwaMbili is siutated in the Thornybush Game Reserve near Hoedspruit, within the Greater Kruger area. The reserve is home to the Big Five as well as an abundance of other game and bird species. This means good sightings, either while out on game drive or on foot during bush walks. KwaMbili means "Place of Two" in the local Shangaan language. Our knowledgeable rangers will introduce you to the tracks, movements, sights and sounds which give you a window into the secrets of the African bush. Back at the lodge, view wildlife from the safety and comfort of our well-positioned hide. If all this calls for time to just let the experience sink in ... take a dip in the swimming pool, just relax in an armchair or enjoy a cool drink at the bar.

Thank you to the KwaMbili team for an absolutely fabulous stay. Our expectations were exceeded on every level. We loved that KwaMbili is a small lodge and that it is the perfect balance between rustic and unpretentious yet luxurious and fine dining at the same time. We loved the 'Out of Africa' theme. It was perfect for our family of 4 and we, including our two teenage girls, enjoyed it immensely. It is a totally immersive bush experience. We were there for 4 nights (8 game drives) and each outing was different and exciting in its own way. Our game ranger (Andi) and tracker (Eddie) were outstanding. Their skill, enthusiasm, professionalism and knowledge were terrific. Using their excellent tracking skills, we were privileged to enjoy an epic leopard sighting as well as a pair of lions mating and to top it all, wild dog, hyena and leopard in one spot. But it is not all about the Big 5. The bird and small animal sightings, particularly the number of birds of prey, were fabulous too. Having the hide overlooking a small water hole with a bigger dam in the near distance also meant that we could continue our game viewing when back in camp and at night. We stayed in the chalets which are very comfortable and classically appointed. The food was excellent and our dietary preferences were accommodated. We loved the dinner in the hide in particular. Eating a fabulous dinner while watching the nocturnal activity of porcupine, honey badger, civet cat and hyena was simply unbeatable. When not on game drives or in the very comfortable hide, we enjoyed the swimming pool area (small but perfectly adequate) and made use of the comfortable lounge area. All in all an excellent trip and very good value for money. Highly recommended.

KwaMbili hidden gem in the bush . Arrived in Hoedspruit full of excitement for our stay . Good tar road to the turnoff to Thornybush. Gravel road also in good condition , any size car can do it. Arrived at the camp, which is well sign posted once in Thornybush. Castle Corner has all the lodges and pointing in the direction. As you in the bush, drive slowly and look out for game . Never know what you will see. Met at the camp was very warm and welcomed with open arms. They follow all the Covid rules. Each staff member introduced themselves. Formalities done in a leisure manner. Taken to the tent , our home. Theme is very evident in "Out of Africa" . Each tent is away from the other . Allowing for privacy and quietness . The camp is small , only 10 guests at any stage. Semi private camp , not all glitz and glamour but beautifully decorated within the bush atmosphere and theme, out of Africa. Some of the camp buck are around the camp grazing .The tent had everything we needed , loved the outdoor shower and toilet , actually on suite to the room but with a view of the bush. again you never know what you will see while in the shower. Nice touch was the sherry in the room for that warm up in winter after your sunset game drive. Food is excellent , great chef and creates beautiful healthy meals. Her fillet was to die for. It is very personel touch is given in the evenings with each course . Had the experience to enjoy dinner in the hide and the boma . Highlites of the many we had. Beautiful swimming pool to cool down and relax with a lounge to enjoy , if you have the time. The hide is a great place to read and chill with a drink . There is also a tower to go up, beautiful in the early morning as the bush wakes up. As Thornybush is big 5 country , the guide and tracker will try to find them for you. They do all possible to let you experience the moment with safety paramount. Had the luck of watching a lion kill from start to finish. Beautiful sunsets at night with sundowners. Great photo opportunities . Game viewing was a little disappointing 2 of the 5 seen , but that's the bush , not a zoo. Fences are down and the animals roam to Kruger and the Greater Kruger . Weather also played its part in the cold front hitting us . Been to Thornybush in May and saw all 5 plus dogs , so its the luck of the draw. This was a hidden gem and well worth a second visit . The staff across the board are very friendly and go the extra mile. Needed 3 nights and not 2 nights. Drinks are not included , however the pricing was very affordable for South African guests. Arrived stressed and we left healthy and full of joy. Wi-Fi is present at the reception / dining / lounge / pool area. No TV or Wi-Fi in the room. Wonderful as you got to have the bush and sounds as your TV. Switch off from the outside world and enjoy nature.

KWA Mbili exceeded my expectations on every level: warm welcome, wonderful helpful staff; excellent and exceptionally knowledgable guides on all flora and fauna! Although I was a solo traveller I was made to feel part of the family and was given every consideration. The little extras were greatly appreciated especially the early evening gourmet dinner in the hide to view the nocturnal animals parade past as if on command! I was fortunate enough to see most of the predators and other wild life inhabitants even the more rare pack of wild dogs! I was constantly in awe of the expertise of the tracker Sepho and the guides Kalyan and Andi - all top class - yes it was their “job” but passion and enthusiasm are priceless! Although we only had time for a short 2 night weekend visit, everything exceeded our expectations. The food and accommodation was excellent and although the bush was still thick after good summer rainfalls, we saw plenty wildlife. Highlight for me was to see unfolding around our game drive vehicle ,an unhurried lion stalk and failed assault by 4 lions on a herd of impala!

What an amazing experience from the time we arrived until we left 3 days later. The food was superb and catered for our every need. The room looked onto the Kruger and we we definitely spoilt with the sounds of the wild at night. Our guide and tracker were awesome and took time to increase our knowledge of the bush.
