We used Ashbourne as a base to visit the Kruger Park over 2 days and having stayed there before found the friendliness and hospitality as good as our previous stay.
Ever friendly and helpful Rob is always willing to make suggestions and assist.

SimonRHalifax hit the nail on the head. I would add that the Lowveld offers more than just Kruger (which gets a bit boring after the 1000th or so rooibok). Checking with Rob or Dawne at Ashbourne is a good idea. There are many unexplored / unheralded but interesting things to do and see besides animals. Go wild yourself with the ability to change plans, so drive yourself after you've learnt to avoid the potholes.
