We recently stayed at this hotel for about 4 nights. Highly recommend it based on its location, value for money and the hotel manager, Lauro. If you've never been to the city the hotel provides a good base from which to explore the city on foot or by Subte. We also found it good value. The room is small but... More

This is a small hotel in a good location (San Telmo). Close to restaurants, shops etc. The rooms are big enough and nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We requested a very early breakfast, which was no problem. The breakfast itself is simple: coffee, toast, yogurt and fruit. For us enough, for others maybe too little. The... More

Cute boutique hotel that met our needs: clean, great proximity to everything, free continental breakfast, & great staff. The front desk guys who checked us in and out were terrific; extremely friendly and provided helpful tips on the area. Lauro made great recommendations and even helped us book a great tango dinner/show. Our room although on the smaller side had... More

We stayed here for four nights and can't really fault the hotel or its staff. Having arrived in BA after a very long overnight bus we got to the hotel well before check in but the guy on reception was more than happy to let us have our room straight away so we could shower and change. From then on... More

I enjoyed my time at the Hotel Babel. The hotel has a few quirks because it's kind of an older place that's been given a newer character. The bar and reception area are very modern and lively but the rooms are a little old feeling. The door of my room was a bit of a challenge to lock and unlock... More

We stayed twice at the hotel in december 2015 (when we arrived in Argentina and at the end of our vacation) - in total we spent 5 nights here. The location is perfect for exploring San Telmo, and other areas of BA can also reached by foot. It is a small hotel with quiet rooms all of which are facing... More

Super friendly and helpful staff. Really good atmosphere! The location is perfect if you wanna see the main attractions of the city, all within walking distance. The San Telmo neighbourhood is nice and cozy with a lot of bars and restaurants.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Babel for 6 nights in December of 2015. We can't speak more highly of the hotel and the service provided by the staff, and in particular, Lauro and Miguel. I had recently sprained my ankle, and the staff were more than accommodating, ensuring we were on the ground floor so as not to... More

We used TA to book the hotel in the first place, Its location in San Telmo is a fantastic to walk everywhere. We managed to be here for the sunday markets along the full length of Defensa St and this was a real treat - especially the street corner bands. Jazz, Blues, Latin American, they were all great. Good restaurants... More

This is a very nice small boutique hotel in San Telmo, but very close to Puerto Madero. The hotel is nice, offers great value in comparison with the rates of more standard hotels, and it gets great value due to the location. Rooms were nice and the service in the hotel was good. Overall a nice stay

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
