We loved staying at America del Sur, we chose to have a double room and although it is technically a hostel it felt more like a hotel. The staff are super friendly, really helpful and love to help you get the best out of Buenos Aires. Their knowledge of local restaurants and activities is brilliant and they can match any...

America del Sur is a fantastic hostel. The staff are helpful and kind, the rooms are large and well-equipped, and the clientele is interesting and varied. The location is excellent in the vibrant neighborhood of San Telmo. If you are looking for affordable lodging in BA, look no further.

America Del Sur was my first experience of hostel life in Buenos Aires, and this hostel was a great place to start. Private room was clean and had added bonus of safe and hairdryer. It's in a great location (make sure to check out the bar opposite with the red door!) and staff were really friendly and helpful. Had a...

Very pleasant hostel with fantastic staff and plenty on offer. Free tours of some parts of the city. Very well located in Buenos Aires. The double rooms give onto a relatively noisy street but they are OK at night. Easy access by public transport. Good breakfast included. Good value for money

San Telmo is a nice area to stay in, with affordable little eateries (they might look like cheap pizza places from the outside, but a lot of them have good wine and steak for ridiculously low prices) and more of a neighborhood-vibe. And of course there's the big market on Sundays. The hostel's reception staff was super nice and very...

I totally recommend that hostel, it's the most modern and the cleanest one on my trip to South America. Everything, the common area, the breakfast, rooms and walking tours organized by hostel were great. Also, the staff they have - these are some great people who told us a lot about the area, the neighborhoods, Argentina in general, the hostel...

There's no doubt that this is one of the cleanest and most modern hostels I have ever stayed in. The staff were also super friendly and very helpful. The location was also great and a really easy walk to the centre of San Telmo. however, I wasn't a fan of the design of the dorms. They were small, which was...

I stayed in the 4 bed dorm, it was very comfortable, good beds, lockers and hot showers. Was pretty quiet at night. Spacious common areas, wifi was a little patchy, kitchen could use a few more cooking implements. Apart from that recommended for a for a couple of nights to conserve some energy before hitting the town. Seems more focused...

A clean, tidy, modern hostel with defend size private rooms with private bathroom. The common areas are clean and spacious giving a really good feel. The staff are the biggest asset and can't do enough for you, all incredibly friendly and help full. Trips and events are organised so if you want to party you will find out great ways...

Lovely, clean, well located hostel with second to none service and a good breakfast. Nothing bad to say about this place - in the heart of San Telmo, a little pricier than some hostels but great value for money. Highly recommended for that part of town

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
