My partner and I have stayed here a few times. Owner very nice and accommodating. We had a studio apartment upstairs. Able to cook minimally. Fresh markets nearby. Sat on the bed and had a super cheese platter with wine and the works. Even bough our own steaks a couple of times. A little expensive per night this year to...

I stayed here to take advantage of being near the San Telmo Sunday Market and that was a fabulous experience. But also, the tango dancing and music in the adjoining plaza was magnificent! I was right in the middle of the action! The hotel was unique and included a balcony and staircase in my single, affordable room. I recommend it...

We stayed in Colonial in December 2013, while there was a heat wave in buenos aires. Ines who is the owner made us feel very welcome, we were offered water and coffee, which was nice after we had been travelling overnight. Ines is very helpful and would try her best to help. She also speaks good English. There is a...

We stood for three nights. The location is great, just between La Boca and the center. Everything in walking distance. Miriam is the heart of this small B&B hostel and gives you every information you ask for. OK the rooms would need some paint but all was clean and in relation to the price. Getting breakfast in a nearby restaurant...

Stayed here for about 2 weeks. Calm location, very friendly owner & staff. Well the place is a bit "used" and could need some work done (refurbishing etc) but for a moderate price its ok! Great access to San Telmo Night Life & antiques, all very close! I agree to some other comment, more of a hostel than hotel, but...

The location of the place isn't bad. And that's all. I have been in lots of hotels, and this one is for sure the worst in the last years. Not clean, dark rooms, old, ... Breakfast is in a ‘café notable’, but not one of the bests. The entire house is in a bad need of refurbishment. The manager is...

What a really great place to stay. You step off the street, out of the traffic, bustle, day and night life of San Telmo, into complete serenity. Not because of the wonders of modern architecture - double glazing and the like - but because they built solid houses back in the 18th Century. As many reviewers note, the accommodation in...

We had a great stay at the San Telmo Colonial. Location was in a very interesting historical area, close to market, restaurants and entertainment and we always felt safe. Very accessible by public transport. The hotel was like having a home - rooms with small kitchens grouped around a beautiful courtyard in a historical house. It had a great atmosphere...

My boyfriend booked the hotel, so I didn't do my regular research before booking. The hotel is clean, quiet, and charming. It includes a decent breakfast. The bed was very comfortable. The layout of the room I stayed in is a bit awkward. You enter thru some double doors which lead right to the bed. The doors have glass windows...

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.

“The best would be to contact the owner for advice as they all varied. There is no children activity or restaurant in the colonial, so I can rate it, but it does not allow to take rating of it.”
