The staff here are fantastic, they were basically our tour guides of BA. Booked tours, helped with logistics, dealt with Aerolinas, city bus numbers, hundreds of questions, simply amazing. San Telmo, real, raw, best hood in BA for me, everything was a walk or bus away. Rooms clean, beds firm, linens soft. I can't wait to come and stay again!

We spent four nights in this hotel in early September. Our welcome from Carolina was delightful and informative, and this immediately raised our expectations of the hotel. We were in room 6, designated as a junior suite with quite a large main room at the back of the hotel. The room amenities included a large main room, sink area separate...

We stayed here for three nights while in BA and found it an excellent hotel. We had a junior suite which had a brand new bathroom and lovely comfy bed and a TV in the room. The staff were really helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Overall a great base to explore San Telmo and the rest of the centre...

We just returned and HAD to give kudos for a great stay. We had transfers to/from the airport arranged by the staff which were great. We only had several days to explore but with lots of help from Carolina we got to just about everywhere we wanted. The hotel is kept very clean and the staff are wonderful. The room...

We had to look for another place to stay after showing up at the bed & breakfast we had originally booked for our stay in Buenos Aires and realizing the bed & breakfast was sketchy. Based on the reviews we saw on Tripadvisor, we decided to give Gurda Tango Boutique Hotel a call and found out that they have a...

I had over a week in Buenos Aires and stayed in Palermo for the most part. For my final two nights, I decided to move to a different neighbourhood -- San Telmo. I picked Gurda because it looked nice and the price was good. I was truly impressed! Check the photos -- it's so nice. The Hotel is beautiful, from...

Small hotel that was a little tricky for my taxi driver to locate, but was worth it. I had a room adjoining a courtyard, it was spacious with a high ceiling. The room was clean, modern and well equipped. Bathroom clean, modern and tasteful with good water pressure. All mod cons provided. Bed was comfortable and linens of a good quality....

What we liked the most about Gurda Tango was the staff. All young guys and girls, always very friendly and helpful. 24 hours at service. The breakfast is also very good. The location is great. At San Telmo, but far enough from the very center of the bubbling markets. The front door is small and maybe a little difficult to...

Great location, rooms basic but comfortable. Would echo Prodigal Son's review. Staff welcoming and helpful, particularly Carolina. Bizarre breakfast arrangements, children's cereals and cake for breakfast, but you have to ask for toast and for anything cooked. Private tango lesson, pricey but highly recommended. If you are thinking of booking a stay there keep in mind that you will get...

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.

“Make sure you ask for a room at the back of the hotel - there are 3 or 4 rooms in the passage way to the back of the hotel which I am very glad we were not in as everyone had to pass these rooms to get to the back of the hotel where there were another 4 rooms - the back rooms are the best ones for quietness.”

“Rooms closer to the reception are quieter during the night than those at the end of the hotel (pigeon noise!!)”
 of 5 bubbles yns_10, 13 Oct 2011 | Read review
“The hotel has about seven rooms. There are two courtyards in the hotel. Our room was located in the courtyard that is further situated from the lobby as we would like to have a quieter environment. However, we didn't realize how much noise the pigeons made early in the morning. One other problem we ran into was the noise of teenagers partying hard on Friday night from the neighboring condo apartment. Therefore, we recommend that you choose a room that is closer to the lobby. I have also provided a tour of the hotel on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8GOoah9oe0”
