Great reception - but - asked to move rooms as too noisy - receptionist lied - he said "we can't move you as we are fully occupied" - rubbish! We could have been moved - we had booked 2 rooms for 3 nights and they treated us as sheep. We will revisit Córdoba - but - we will not revisit Alex.

Our overnight bus ride from Buenos Aires arrived in the early daylight hours. With the help of the information person at the bus terminal, we found the Alex Hotel across the street! We were greeted gruffly by a woman who announced in Spanish that we could not check in yet. She did, however, take our rolling luggage behind the desk until check-in was possible later. Her physical strength made up for her not-so-friendly attitude as she carried my heavy luggage up the stairs to our room. It was a very small but a more pleasant accommodation than we had in a 3 star hotel in Buenos Aires. Other descriptions below this one and pictures are accurate. Breakfast was good coffee with hot milk including a second cup when we asked, two sticky (honey covered, I presume) medialunas, and a drink resembling orange juice but wasn't the real thing. Each morning, the breakfast was the same. Aside of the either indifferent or hostile attitude (our limited Spanish ability may have contributed to this) of the desk clerks, the Alex is a good place to stay, assuming you don't mind being ten blocks from city center (we like to walk and did). Our rate was to be 260 pesos, but as we requested to pay by credit card, the rate was changed to 280 pesos.

I am staying my 3rd night at the Alex Hotel and will be here for one more. The location is fine, right near the bus terminal and only about 10 blocks walk to the main square. There is construction going on next door, so expect some noise in the morning (I have been using earplugs every night and getting a good sleep). My room is small, but very adequate and it has a/c which, given the weather in Cordoba, is absolutely necessary. This is not a good place to meet other people, nor should you expect fantastic service (so far, I have only found one staff member to be friendly), but as a decent place to sleep it's fine. No one speaks English here, but I have gotten by with basic Spanish. The breakfast is simple: coffee/tea, juice and 2 medialunas. The best thing about this place is the price - I looked into other accommodation, but found them to more expensive, even private rooms at hostels cost more. Overall, I have found it to be very good value for Cordoba, but it is certainly nothing special.

We used the hotel as a one night stopover in Cordoba en route to BA. It was most convenient as it was close to the bus station and within walking distance from the park area as well as the old historic area of the city. The hotel was comfortable and good value for money.
